With the Crunchy/Funi/Sony monopoly it's unacceptable that an anime is left behind. I wonder how many more will be left behind this season and upcoming. smh

The monopoly is probably the reason why anime like this did get left behind. The monopoly can set the price for western licensing, and if the studio doesn't agree, its not like they can go to a competitor.

Overall, its us the viewers who lose out.

Folks, seriously... Sony owns Funimation, right? And recently they bought Crunchyroll too, isn't it?... There is a FREAKING GAME OF THIS SERIES COMING FOR PS4 NEXT MONTH (and also for Switch, for those interested), so WHY CAN'T SONY PROMOTE THIS ANIME SERIES AND GAME LIKE THERE WAS NO TOMORROW?!?

These friggin' executives probably don't like making money, 'coz that is unbelievable, dude...

everyone faulting this on the monopoly, pretty sure it's just level-5 being uptight with their properties like they've been for like a decade

The game isn't coming to the US, so why would that incentivize Sony to bring the anime to the US?

That said, I wish it were licensed. Oh, well.

Couldn't it just end up on Netflix or Amazon Prime? It's not like Crunchy and Funi are the only services out there. Either that or possibly none of them saw the point in licensing this one? Maybe it's just that bad? lol I have no idea

Why not give it to Sentai/HiDive license. Their Fall season is bare to watching.

Yeah, this is most likely just Level 5 being idiots. How that company is still afloat is beyond me.

huh? does Netflix have billions of various items on sale world-wide? NF doesn't even make a single physical object... Sony's net worth for 2021 is an estimated $55Billion dollars... that's a B not a M... NF net worth for 2021 is an estimated $20Billion that's a $35Billion difference.

AniplexJP Sony's 'anime funding division' that actually gives out the money to the studios who make anime has one of the LARGEST catalogs of anime franchises/titles in Japan. if you're part of a 'funding committee' for an anime, and you DON'T present your project to Aniplex in Japan? you. are. nuts.

here's a great article on the breakdown of how a movie in Japan makes a profit for everybody involved in it: https://yattatachi.com/demon-slayer-mugen-train-how-much-money-did-ufotable-make give it a read. know why i mentioned that article? AniplexJP is one of the 'money guys' behind that movie. .

think about SAO's anime... world-wide... Aniplex gets a cut of it. every. thing. all of it, Aniplex makes some money off it. games. dubs. subs. disks. the movie. they probably don't have a finger in the books or manga, but they might. Aniplex has been known to subsidize a few publishing projects now and then. the merch, as always, makes a crapton of cash.

NETFLIX only got into anime in 2014. Sony created Aniplex in 1995. :>

additionally, if you don't know how the negotiations go? if NF doesn't invest in the original production of an anime... they would have to BUY the streaming rights from somebody ON that original production committee. like... Aniplex. :> if NF is lucky and the original property owner... say the author or mangaka... still has negotiation rights to those international streaming licenses... NF could go straight to them. which in Japan is rarer than hen's teeth... because authors/artists generally SELL those rights ENTIRELY to a production committee or their publisher. then the anime 'money guys' talk with the 'book/manga' money guys and everybody shakes hands and gives a pittance of a profit to the creative that originally worked everything up.

see the above article and other sources listed there about how much Demon Slayer's mangaka made off of Mugen Train's movie. :)
