In the anime itself
That got me wondering what was his true goal if there was any? Was it to help the characters grow and face their personal problems?

Pretty sure he said it was for his entertainment. Not entirely sure as it’s been a while since I’ve seen it but I’d take that claim at face value. His character kinda gives off that vibe if you know what I mean.

I totally get what you mean. His motive is the only gripe I have with this anime. I feel like it should've been more explored and better explained.

I wonder that too. I haven't read them, but I might now that I've finished the anime.

Heartseed is just a plot device. The sole purpose of his existence is to make sense the super natural phenomenon happening around these 5 students. Nothing fancy here.

Yeah, like I said before, his motive is the only gripe I have with the anime. I wish it was more explored and better explained.

Well, it only has that many episodes, and most part of the character development in this series already felt rushed or hand-wavy, don't know what would happen if they had included more stuffs about this heartseed dude.
This issue kinda exists in other animes that uses some entity with some supernatural power only to make sense or vaguely explain the unnatural things going around others.

Don't get me wrong, I really liked the anime but I'm not a huge fan of a random element or character in stories that are there just to move the plot forward without any deeper meaning. It just doesn't add any meaning or deeper purpose to the story if it's just there for the sake of the plot.

I think what blew me off more was how Heartseed is just not a very likable person to me. I mean if he was doing everything solely out of entertainment, was there anything fun in the things he did? or when he suddenly jumped out to explain things, or give additional instructions, or tried to sound more cool, the purpose of these parts are just too clear - only to add drama or to make the plot a bit more mke sense.
I know that it might be hard to come up with a more well-thought of way (at least with more effort, even if it doesn't make sense) to formulate a plot or background explanation involving supernatural stuffs using a less pretentious narrative. I might think that some anime does a better job on this, but maybe others would immediately spot other major problems, as supernatural things are not easy to provide sound background. For example, people may find bunny senpai's pseudo-science remarks an insult to their intellectual. But to me Heartseed's existence is just on another level of annoyance.
But at least heartseed being an out of place character might be a common ground for some people hating this anime amd for some people like you that likes this anime.
