Could be any of the following 4 possibilities -
1. Side story - Meh, I'm not sure whether I'll bother watching.
If it's a sequel it means unfortunately that we shouldn't be expecting a third season until at least summer 2023, which brings the other 3 possibilities -
2. First 3 or so chapters from Vol. 7, then season 3 picks from there - If that happens that would be best.
3. Condensed adaptation of the next arc - Would probably be bad because even with a full season they had to cut things here and there. Attempting to compress an entire arc to a single movie means cutting more than half of it (the next arc is definitely not small).
Then there's the worst option -
4. Some kind of a conclusion and no season 3 - I doubt 8bit plan on dropping their most successful franchise but mind that by fall 2022 the LN will be nearly finished so we can't completely exclude this option.

I was happy to see a new entry for Slime and devastated to see it's a movie.

If it's a sequel as people are saying, it will be bad, really bad. The next arc can NOT be condensed into a simple movie, it's too long and it's one of the shortest arcs. I'm not going to get my hopes up for this. They should make a movie for the labyrinth avatar arc because that shit was boring but has enough action to keep movie audiences happy.

It could still be an original story that they're just going to say is the canon continuation, and then they'll just continue from volume 7 in season 3.

Well. It's technically a side story...... but they could integrate it into the story somehow l'm not too sure. It's weird because the author said he only worked on this as a side project so it should be a side story, but some sources say its canon. Honestly we need to wait for more info.

no but it is written by the author it is not canon but the author did write the story for the movie kinda like the dbz movies or one piece movies
