How does Sherlock know Moriarty is the lord of crime?

I started today season 2 and at the end of episode 2 Sherlock holmes said that Adler's protector is the lord of crime right when an image with Moriarty appeared on screen.
I watched the first season last year when it came out so I don't recall all the details. The question is, does Sherlock know professor Moriarty's identity? And if yes how did he figure this out and when? During the cruise or on the train?

I don’t believe he actually knows. Pretty sure they just showed Moriarty for visual effect

Gut instinct, he truly belives that lord of crime is a genius and the only other genius he has witnessed both times (on ship and on train) is wiriyam jaemes moryati, that's how he know or should I say very very certain that it's him.

Guys, I went to holiday right after posting this thred and I've just got the chance to read the answers. Thanks, it helped a lot and now everything makes sense (or as a detective would say: I found the missing piece of the puzzle). Let's enjoy the rest of this anime :D.

P.S: to the guy who explained to me that this is the same season made of 2 parts, sorry but I thought that having the number 2 in the name means that it's the second season 🤣 my bad and thanks for letting me know this is the same season.

My interpretation was that Sherlock doesn't yet know for sure if it's William. If he did, I think he'd show more reaction.
