Just finished the series, and I wanted to talk about the ending. So . . . are we supposed to think that Marin

I'm leaning towards the first option, but I found it a little frustrating that the ending doesn't say for certain what happens.

I'm also thinking the same....since they showed them flying together in the sky and it was talking about happiness in the end.

i still think that was the good bye kiss since the title of the final episode is "Sayonara Marine Blue"

i almost pessimistic that Brigadoon won't have a happy ending, but yessss i'm relieved!!!!
THE ENDING WAS EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I DON'T KNOW WHY THIS SERIES DIDN'T GET MANY RECOGNITION!!! I WOULD EVEN PUT THIS SERIES AT THE SAME LEAGUE AS MADOKA OR EVANGELION!!! completely blow me awayyyy!! <3333333333

one of the better easy to watch old school series for sure...

gets a bit iffy at times but Marin always save the day with her boner-inducing "Ahaaaaa" voice.

oh and dat ED song is just too damn relaxing

What boggles me is Lulu's big reveal and him being Alo and such. That just made the whole thing a hell of a lot more convoluted (or at least, so I think). Was his (Hensu-chi's) goal to perpetuate conflict to initiate something for the Day of Pasca and create world resurrection every 100 years? And doesn't that make him have the same ideals as everyone else but he just ends up killing people for that end and making himself the bad guy? His last minute time shift saying "we'll meet again friends" came off as antagonistic, yet as Alo he is rooting for Melan and the lot to succeed while being a bystander, so what WAS the point of all those people dying? What did it do? That or I need general clarification of what his damn goal was. The ending had a few cool moments, but I'm iffy on the cliffhanger (moreso the love dynamic in itself) and again Lulu's whole role in everything, plus I wish there was more genuine closure than just some short montage and a few other bits here and there. The series is around a 6-7/10 for me, but I can't stop fussing over Lulu's shenanigans.

^ what that nigga says

okay boohoo no one told me the ending would be a tearjerker and that this would end up as a romance

but someone please tell me what lulu's/the hensu-chi's goal was in the first place????

It was definitely shown that Lulu/the Hensu-chi wanted to dispose of the Creis (Marin, who was thought to be Marine) by means of the Monomakias sent to Earth. Or was Lulu NOT THE Hensu-chi???

Judging by the way he said that, it sounded as if he was talking in third person/referring to an entity that isn't him.

But then here:

---Lolo directly said Lulu was a Hensu-chi.
SO AMMAGUESSIN Hensu-chi (or "Renegades" as indicated in the subtitles back then) is a GROUP of say, REVOLUTIONARIES?

Maaaaaaaaan it looks like the writer either messed up or couldn't think of a good way to tie up the loose ends. Aloma said "history is back to how it was". Wait a minute, was Aloma trying to undo what Lulu did?
"After setting time and space adrift with Armaton Cross, I somehow wound up in this funny world."
Wait a minute, so Lulu isn't the descendant of Aloma, rather Aloma = Lulu??? If that's so, THAT'S A CONTRADICTION IN ITSELF.
Lulu wanted the destruction of Brigadoon by what, killing Marine[?], and having Brigadoon start anew with newer shit? Aloma (who is implied to be Lulu?) on the other hand supported Marin and Marine and the whole "the Creis is needed for The Day of Pasca." (basically, to stop the destruction and shit?)

O Rori, please enlighten us. Maybe I wasn't paying attention, maybe I missed something really important, but surely I can't be mistaken about this being a contradiction, let alone a paradox.

I want to believe that Aloma was from a different future of Brigadoon wherein he went back in time and realised that he didn't want to destroy things so that they may start anew. Meaning, Aloma was a Lulu from a different time who time-travelled earlier than the Lulu whom we saw time-travel in this episode. That would make more sense.

Ending so sad :''''''( I wish they could've stayed together. The ending kiss seems like a goodbye kiss to me

I really liked this series! From the very start, it was just one of those stories that brings you in and makes you want to watch more and more. The world building, characters, and plot elements were full of creativity, and I really liked how the story played out. NOT a fan of the nudity though, it was honestly pretty excessive. I really liked the music though, and the battle scenes were pretty well done. I'd definitely call this show “well-done”, and I really feel like it leaves an impact. Definitely one of those “greatest shows you've never heard of” anime imo. 9-10/10!

1st off to go with the forum, i vote that the ending was just a good bye kiss.

Now overall of this anime I was outright surprised. At 1st i thought this would just be your average "monster of the week" anime. but it developed a charm to it that stuck out form the cliqhued tropey animes and over time quickly evolved into something so unique and unexpected.
I Saw this dubbed and I didnt expect to see such things like a normal woman trying to kill marin MANY times to avenge her own daughters loss.
Furthermore, all through the show and even as we saw in the end, Marin stood up to bullies. Most animes just have their main character take it and feel sorry for themswlves or have someone else jump in.

That being said though I didnt much care for the "dream sequences" Marin had where things she imagined that never happened, cause I find it dumb to cut away from the show for some BS. There was also a tad too much nude children scenes.

And regarding the ending, 1. I really wanted that murdering ex-mother to die I know she "repented" I guess u can say, but still fuck her she tried to justify attempt of murdering 1 8 year old girl to avenge another 8 year old girl not once, not twice but 3 times 4 if u count her burning the tenament when Marin was in Brigadoon. And also WHAT S WITH THOSE 3 GIRLS STILL BULLYING MARIN ON THE ROOF? I know they were smiling like they didnt mean it and she fought back, but seriously?? can we atleast have 1 measly scene where ALL those asshole kids who put her through so much shit atleast say "Sorry"

Overall 9/10 maybe 8.5/10

Yes, exactly. Nothing makes sense in the end, it is all very contradictory.
At first I was thinking this anime was very good, but this ending contradicts many things, it kind of threw a lot of things in the trash.

It was disappointing, because up to a point it is a good anime, but this ending ruined everything.

In fact, just to complete what you said ...
If he really wanted to destroy everything, why didn't he kill Marin long before? And another, in the end he thanks her for saving everything, right after he tries to destroy everything.
It makes no sense, the ending spoiled the anime.

Its really hard to end an anime. Or a story. Neon Genesis Evangelion couldn't. Not without making the mecha fights pointless. Now that Rebuild is done, a lot of people hate that ending too. It's much easier to create a great premise than actually complete that idea in a satisfying way. So this anime has a lot in common with most anime.

That being said, there is no payoff to anything. No Mike and Jun, Jun's Mom and Dad, hell even Marin and Melan. And Moe-chan gets left all alone. This show never decided if it wanted to be happy or sad. Hopeful or Melancholy. Fanservice or storytelling. This anime is a 7 out of 10. That's being generous. I would give it a 4 but.....

The soundtrack was unique and different. The main character was a girl in a mech/ super powered friend show. It was wholesome and fun when it wanted to be. It was disturbing and dark on occasion. The ED song was fantastic. This show flirted with accountability and serious topics from time to time. Moto bachan's death was red flagged to all hell but still nice and emotional. Lolo was a great character all around. Sometimes the angles and the scene composition where inventive and cool. Murder Mom was great. She even got a happy ending! And Moe-chan was great from beginning to end.

All those things make the show better than a 4. But the fanservice of children? It went from underwear that looked like diapers to creep shots and panty flashing. Don't little kids want to be turned on by adult looking bodies? Don't adults as well? They even make it such a big a part of the OP that I chose to skip the OP. Mecha anime are all about fanservice. But choosing when to use it is the most basic part of anime. The story was pretty crap too. If there was an interesting story thread this show dangled in front of us, it almost certainly would be fucked up by poor storytelling. Romantic tension between Marin and Erin. More episodes on Lolo's past, while keeping enough mystery to keep him an enigma. A proper backstory for the gun swordsmen. How about how the Marine Ampoule was lost? I won't even touch what a mess the Lulu arc was.

This show had a small cast and still couldn't tell a proper story. 7 out of 10. Lower your expectations, then lower them some more. Then you might be ready to watch a fun time.

Lastly, this show actually could have benefitted from some 2000's era Western editing. If the only nudity was giant Moe-chan killing people and trying to kill herself, I would raise this show up half a point. If Melan told Marin he can't be with her because she is a little girl and they had one kiss and ended with him going home, this show could even be an 8. Though only if you also give LuLu and Lolo's story proper breadth and a sensible ending.

Why were all the humanoids on Brigadoon women? Why did the astronauts come back to Earth? How did they come back to earth?

Kuston left the same way he appeared. Irrelevantly off camera.

Death means more when people die and stay dead. So many fake outs make it hard to believe she is done for sure. Though Erin made it to the end without being fridged or turned into a tsundere.

Edit; I tracked down the manga. If you combine it with the anime you get a much better story. And pretty much no Loli fanservice. The hensuchi is done much better over there as well. Erin even has a chance at a happy ending. Moe-chan is still left out in the cold tho. Lastly, Marine gets a heartbreaking backstory and becomes a much better character as a result. Your mileage may vary on how much you like the manga if you don't watch the anime, so definitely finish the anime first before tracking down the manga.

I agree with pretty much everything you said. There's many elements of a great show here but they're scattershot and hastily assembled seemingly at random. One moment Marin is in the depths of despair and the next, she's happy again. Rinse and repeat.

I've never had such difficulty rating a show. There was a lot to love about it. If it wasn't so random and weird I'd give it an 8.

But I'm gonna have to give it a 6. I never want to watch this ever again.
