In season 1, Dreyfus never seemed controlled by a demon; he even fought with Hendrickson and supposedly died. None of that makes sense in season 2. Also, Dawn Roar survived at the end of season 1 (I know some died in the manga at that time period), yet only a few remain in season 2. Can someone elaborate on if they were ret-conned due to the anime making mistakes?

It was foreshadowed in both the anime and manga with the book he was reading when Gilthunder and Howzer spoke to him but the stuff with Dawn Roar was a clear retcon.

What was the book?

And why did Dreyfus fight with Hendrickson?

How did Dreyfus survive being disintegrated … by the same demon that supposedly controlled both of them (him & Hendrickson)?

Yes. Him and Hendrickson were retconned hard in Season 2. One of the reasons the OVAs seem to have been made was to make the transition away from the changes they'd made in Season 1 (especially with its ending) to Season 2 somewhat easier, but it was very clunky. Season 1 had made some... interesting choices for its characters and important plot points to say the least. In a LOT of places. It was a modern day Gainax ending at its finest.

Did you watch the OVAs? The book was reshown then.

To get the Elizabeth's blood. This was also shown in the OVAs.

I remember the acid attack being ineffective against demons. He faked his death so he called break the seal. This was also shown in the OVAs.

If you mean the Signs of the Holy War, then I did watch the OVA.

Yes, Fraudrin wanted Elizabeth’s blood. It still does not explain why he showed concern for her or why he was fighting Hendrickson.

Also, why did Hendrickson talk as if he were going to actually kill Dreyfus, even though Fraudrin was controlling both of them. There was no one even watching except Elizabeth for only part of the fight, which didn’t matter since Dreyfus was going to escape anyway.

A lot of things just don’t make sense and you haven’t been able to address them, such as the reason for Dreyfus & Hendrickson fighting when they were basically on the same team (according to season 2). It seems A1-Pictures screwed up heavily in S1 and they were desperately trying to fix their mistakes. We probably need a remake of season 1 or to read the manga for the story to make sense in later seasons.
