tbh i've been starting to like this show less.. it's getting really predictable and they're introducing a lot of new characters without giving any background information which just leads to everyone getting confused. it's also pretty unrealistic, like how is langa at pretty much the same level as joe when langa's been skating for like a month and joe's been skating for years? i know he's been snowboarding but they're not the same thing

Man that hat Tadashi was wearing has some amazing powers. They need to do some research on it since it can completely change your face shape.

Miya facing Adam next week? Uh oh lol. Someone call his parents.

I don't mind if Reki stays bad. His friendship with Langa and the others shouldn't rely on him being as good at them or skating for the same reasons they do. Maybe he can train like crazy in the next few episodes, but idk, it doesn't seem like what he wants. Would also be nice to show that you can enjoy a sport even if you're not a prodigy.

Finally somebody, thank you.
I really don't get this obsession with needing Reki to be as good as Langa and the rest and acting like there's nothing worse that could've happened to him than "settling" for building boards.
Meanwhile the show has been very clear from the get go that building boards is something Reki absolutely adores and is extremely passionate about. Like, this is the storyline the show has been very clearly setting up this entire time, so i'm really not sure why all the backlash? And it's not like he has to give up skating or even improving altogether, he just needs to find balance and something he can be confident about. And if that ends up being something that's part of the skating world and that he already loves, then even better.

ADAM's aunts are the reason why he's behavior is like that, they raised him in a stressful environment. His assistant Tadashi/SNAKE is also a good skater tho.

Carla is so cool, can even change into a long board.

Langa isn't feeling the way he feels when he's skating is really great, definitely because Reki ain't around to support him and is actually avoiding him even at their school. Langa's conversation with his cool mom is so cute and funny. Langa really missed Reki and acknowledged thay it's his fault why Reki is avoiding him.

"You like that person, right?"
"Well... yeah." While blushing. Cute Langa.
"... if you really care about her!"
"Her?"
"Huh?"
Hahahaha lmao

Obviously, Langa will like Reki because he is his first friend and mentor. Langa and Reki are both sad now, but I guess they already found their resolve. Langa will continue skating and fight ADAM, while Reki will continue to support Langa by creating him the best skateboard that suits his style, which is Reki really amazing at.

Like someone said here before from the narrative point of view this is not rly satisfying. Reki has always wanted to pursue being a skater and to stand on equal grounds with his friends. Taking that away from him bc according to the show he is not a genius is quite shitty lol It wont resolve any of his problems at all. This series here is not about professional skateboarding, there are no matches or races where you need to win or you wont be able to compete again bc its a hs setting or whatever. so what are the stakes here? just skating on "S"? Then what's the problem? You dont have to be a genius to skate there right? So why all the talk the show is doing "give up on skating do skateboards lol". What's the reasoning here? "You are not as good as Langa so don't skate with him and all your friends on 'S'"? That's such weird logic. There is honestly no time to develop him to do both - skating and making boards - so I'm sure the series will make it go so he will settle for the latter and will be "happy" or smth.

I dont think ppl would have a problem with mechanic Reki if the show actually made his skills relevant lol but aside from the first 3 episodes (where it was ONLY for the sake of building a board specifically FOR LANGA) the show doesnt care about making boards; its about flashy races. Since the show has not continued to establish how important Reki's mechanic skills are (except for maybe one comment from langa in the beach ep), Reki seems like a pointless character now. Heck even TADASHI got to skate and had his wow moment. Meanwhile, Reki continues to be emo lol.

I knew there was something fishy with Adam's aunts, goddamn. No wonder he's so fucked up in the head.
Really interested in seeing more about his relationship with Tadashi.

And man, my boy Reki :( I always feel really bad when I see hyper people being down like that.

The fated tournament already launched. Adam showed his superiority, but everyone else looked just fine in the field. A little surprise happened when Adam assistant participate too in order to stop Adam madness. He was actually the one who gave a skateboarding idea to Adam. Interesting to see if he could disenchanted his master about whats he's done lately just too wrong. Now, everything looked so excited. Even Reki arrived for whatever reason he had on his head. The stage entering an important match already, Joe versus Snow cliffhanger showed how important this arc for their overall characters development. Its not just about Leki and Ranga, but for the others that held their own motives through the skateboarding S competition. I can't wait to see the result behind their complex different motives....

Apart from what everyone's already said about the various parts...

Can I just point how refreshing it is to see a parent or a sibling actually being around and interacting with a main character? And in some meaningful ways, at that. Small dashes of normalcy that just ground all the anime's outlandish elements, and it's a whole different kind of joy to watch. I mean, idk about others, but Langa's convo with his mom (especially her freaking out about what to do) and Reki's scene with his sister really stood out for me in this episode, amidst all the rest "business as usual" bits.

They have been sticking to the old casts like a glue for 8 episodes.
How's any of these confusing XD. This story is pretty simplistic.

Detective was in the OP and showed up since ep 3 or 4.
Same goes to those aunts.

Btw I find that this show is going to a less predictable route after SNAKE comes in.
Since Reki is not even there and Langa is not in the best mood yet I think he probably would not even win against Joe.

Seems like Cherry/ Joe/ Snake/Adam have way more personal conflict between each other , way more so than Langa, which is pretty much sidelined in this tournament.
I have a feeling this tournament is not even the final one and would end in next episode.

Definitely just a buildup episode, but still had some action in here.

So Adam's assistant is in the tournament without Adam's consent, and somehow beating everyone's time, wonder how it will affect the other six.

Great episode! We have those cool ass skater names like SNOW, SHADOW, ADAM and then suddenly we have HARRY lmao. He just got jobbed to SHADOW.

It's really saddening to see Reki like that, their implying that Reki will have a support role like that dude in the television. Honestly he should just go for whatever will make our boi happy.

I love Langa's mom lmao, she's really great. Damn, so it's Tadashi that taught ADAM how to skate, he's probably just as good if not better than ADAM.

On God man, fuck that cliffhanger. Looking forward to the next episode.

Amen 🙏 Literally the best part of the entire episode.

Really hope Reki gets himself together soon. Him showing up to the tournament was a good start, at least.

I really hope Tadashi somehow beats ADAM and teaches him a lesson. Inb4 ADAM realizes Tadashi was his Eve all along.

I swear to god everything about this show screams BL, I love BL but I hate exploiting it like that, they are clearly using it to attract certain demographics and at the same time they are denying it so the avoid losing other demographics. This is why i have a love hate relationship with this anime.

ADAM you fucking psycho, how dare you treat my baby Tadashi like that???!!!! I do feel sad for Adam, he clearly was abused as child. Baby Tadashi giving him the skateboard ohhhhh, am crying they were so cute ughhh Adam why did you have to grow up like that, just let Tadashi love you :(

See, that's exactly what I disagree with you on. From narrative point of view it'd feel extremely cheap if the story went any other way because it hasn't been earned.
The way the story is going right now has been foreshadowed since pretty much the get go and the show hasn't even been particularly subtle about that - because let's be real, sk8 is many things but subtle isn't one of them. Reki has never wanted to pursue being a skater, he just likes to skate, those are two completely different things. He wants to be on the same level as his friends not because he has the same kind of drive to improve and win as eg Langa or Miya, but because he doesn't want to be left behind. Skating is more fun with friends and right now he doesn't feel like he deserves either. His character has always been centred more around his relationships with other people than around actually skating, and skating has just been a vehicle to convey that.
Like, people have been complaining about how he doesn't race much and when he does it's to defend Miya (and Langa to an extent) and how Langa is better and so on basically this entire season. Yeah. That's the point. The show has been perfectly consistent with his characterisation and all of that has led us to where we are right now.
The backlash to Reki's current situation feels a lot like projecting. You can't really complain about not getting paella when somebody explicitly told you they'll be serving italian.

On the other hand, it's just like you said. Or i said. Since we p much made the same point. Yeah, S is not an official competition, you can't get eliminated or something, anybody can participate as long as they have the guts and the wish to do it. He doesn't have to quite skating altogether. He just needs to find balance and get his confidence back.
Yes, I agree he needs to get back on the skateboard, both to be truly happy and to mend his relationships with his friends, since all of them more or less revolve around skating. But I don't think he needs to magically improve his skating or beat adam or whatever to do that. His confidence can come from other places.

I understand and I see your point. I phrased my response poorly (about Reki being a skater that was too broad) bc I generally agree with you about the relationships and stuff. I get what's Reki's arc is supposed to be about but I just dont think the execution is done well. It does not feel like the anime wants him to regain his confidence/passion, or at least it hasnt shown anything suggesting that. And like I said, Reki's mechanic skills are never particularly important to the plot. And still, the show has established he is great at making boards but it didnt work on his confidence. Why then waste a scene to emphasize the "supporter" role yet again when we havent worked on the latter. Unless they just wanna fit him into one role.

I never wanted him to magically improve or beat Adam, all I wanted for the anime is to not tell him to quit entirely bc it certainly does come across that way. I only think its not satisfactory IF he does not EVER get back on the skateboard with his friends. Thats my whole point. It's like you said his relationships revolve around skating but he is hardly skating in the show to be fair. If the show takes that skating away from him and only give him the other role then I personally at least dont find that solution satisfying.

Tbf, a lot of this was based on my assumption that the show won't make him quit skating altogether, bc yeah, that just might be the worst possible conclusion to both his character arc and the show as a whole. If they do decide to go that way i'll probably respond with the same amount of righteous disdain as every else is lmao
I suppose a lot about how Reki's character is executed depends on whether the show sticks the landing. I've been trusting them to do so and therefore haven't been terribly put off by how it's been going, but if it doesn't then yeah, it'll make his entire character worse in hindsight.

There's also another idea that's been rattling in my mind - that the tv clip might've been there only for Reki to reject it and decide he won't settle like the shoemaker guy did. Which, I mean, that could be pretty hype too ngl

*So, are they signaling that Reki is going to give up skateboarding and become ''supporter'' or skateboard mechanic or something? I hope it doesn't end like this. He has the potential; he can do the BOTH. Anyway, we will see how it turns out.

*wtf wrong with Adam's aunts btw? :=0

*Adam's assistant, Snake guy, he ltotally slayed. Clappings go to his performance.

I’d really be disappointed if Reki only ended up as support. Because we see in the beginning how much he loves and enjoys skating so it just wouldn’t make sense. I really hope he gets back to it soon.

Also about the beef between Joe and Langa. I think it’ll make more sense for Joe to win. I know EVERYONE is always talking about how frickin great Langa is, but Joe is an experienced skater and he actually has a motive to beat Adam, so does Cherry. I believe they’re the ones that should stay till the end.

Shadow is really getting on my nerves. He keeps making these mean comments about Reki and I really hate it. I used to really like him but he’s really just pissing me off.

All in all a great episode, though. And the talk with Langa’s mum was HILARIOUS😭

So Reki isn't a skating master like the rest of his friends. But can any of them create such awesome individually spec skateboards? (Cherry Blossom's doesn't count as it's an AI board). No. They can't even compare.

Without Reki's encouragament and the boards he made to help Langa improve. Langa would never have gotten to the stage he is now or probably even pursue skateboarding.

Don't pull Reki up short just because his best skills lies elsewhere.

Edit: It doesn't mean Reki has to give up skateboarding either. His knowledge on how best to design boards comes from that experience as well.

Reki still in self loathing mode, but at least he came out to see the main event. This show is not subtle at all with "Snake" being the rival for Adam and also the one who taught him skateboarding. Langa vs Joe for the second event is pretty sweet. Feel like Langa will win but not 100% on that. Joe pulling off some absurd shit this show loves to do. Not that I am complaining about that.

.....So after watching with subs Im just gonna say im sad the show is trying so hard to make Reki give up on skating and only make boards. He is NOT a bad skater. Not a genius but he is good so why cant he do both? With how this is going its honestly such a shame we never got Reki having a proper beef with anyone, ever.....

Well, basically all of this. The "Oh, booh-hoo, Reki's gonna become a lame-ass skateboard mechanic, nooo, this is all Langa's fault for being better than him, he should go dieeee!!!" reaction from 95% of the fandom is so utterly puzzling to me, like, have any of you people even watched this show? How is it that the majority of viewers can so completely misinterpret a clear narrative decision that the writers have been going for from the start?

Anyway! I really do love this show. Each episode delivers something refreshing and exciting, if not particularly shocking. (I'd already guessed that Reki would break off his friendship with Langa by, like, the 3rd episode; plus everything about Adam and Tadashi's backstory by the end of ep. 7, so.)

As for those going "It's so predictable!" Really? Even I, who'd figured that Tadashi would be a skateboarder and would come to the tournament to beat/save Adam, can't really figure out who's gonna win in the Joe vs Snow race, not to mention whether Adam and Snow will ever get to face each other at all, or if it's Snake who's gonna beat Adam.

I can say for sure that S is gonna be taken down and Adam's gonna go to jail or at least lose his political career through that police detective's efforts, though. But who knows, maybe he can start over and become less unbalanced in the process? That's what Tadashi (and, to a lesser extent, Cherry and Joe) seem to think is best for him, too.

And since I seem to be literally the only person on the internet who likes Langa for his own sake and not as some other character's boytoy, let me say that I really do hope Langa will win against Adam (of course with Reki's assistance)! I don't seriously think that's how the finale will go, but. For the sake of the poor kid who's being unjustly trash-talked by a bunch of adults who're venting their jealousy of prodigies on him: "You go, Langa! Sky's the limit!"

I'm anime only but yeah I figured... I can only hope he comes out ahead in the end.

For Reki it's the same. I don't care if he skates, doesn't skate, makes boards, or not. Most of all I just want him to find his own happiness, because he's awesome and deserves it!

Um? Pretty sure they made it clear in the preview it'd be Adam vs Cherry next episode. I think Miya will get to face Snake. Poor kid, he's SO gonna lose. *Pats his shoulder consolingly*

I really enjoy this series! and I think that the fact that Reki maybe will focus on making skateboards is really cool! Not every MC needs to be on the top or be the best, Langa has been telling him many times how amazing he is every time he makes a new and customized board and every time he tutors him; I really hope he shows up on the beef and supports Langa. Or maybe we can get new episodes focused on his skills at making and tutoring and he can recover his spotlight at the last episodes.

Also the fact that Langa likes Reki makes it cuter!! but I don't expect them to be together or to Langa to tell Reki how he feels, Reki doesn't seem to see Langa that way...

Oho, finally some interesting questions. I am so curious about this race because on one hand the show has positioned Langa as the unbeaten prodigy and the rival adam has been looking for its entire run, but on the other joe and cherry have so much more history with adam and actual personal stakes that go beyond wanting to be the very best like no one ever was, that it'd be maddening to not see them face off at all. And then you throw snake into the mix and you've got yet another high stakes candidate for the final showdown with adam.
Like, i could see joe and cherry tag teaming against adam, even tho i'm pretty sure the rules of the tournament don't allow for that lol or even joe losing against snow and entrusting the adam race to cherry, but that still leaves us with two more skaters and their stories to resolve.
And then we also still need to resolve Langa and Reki's argument, which will presumably happen by Reki making his presence known and getting Langa out of his funk, which could mean just about anything for his races and--
I am quite literally about to explode here, that's how hyped i am for these skating boys to do the skating thing lmao

Well, as expected, it looks like Reki is going to transition into more of a supporting role rather than the one to actually do the skating. I feel like that's been more or less set up from the start, but it works well enough to keep things going (under the assumption that he and Langa make up after his beef with Joe). Tadashi emerging as a skater in his own right for the tournament isn't too surprising as a twist, but it does make me wonder which will be the final matchup: ADAM vs SNAKE, or ADAM vs SNOW?

I suppose other outcomes are possible, but I just can't see it; I reckon ADAM will end up against CHERRY this round, MIYA will lose to SNAKE and then it'll be ADAM vs SHADOW in one semi-final and SNAKE vs SNOW in the other.

Well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see, I suppose.

I really hope Joe wins the beef against Langa. Not only because it would be such pain to watch how all of sudden Langa gets ahead and wins, but I think it would make a better story. But thats for the next episode. This one was really good.

Good episode, setting up Reki being more of a skateboard mechanic than a skateboarder. I hope I'm wrong though, I liked seeing Reki skate.

I wonder why Shadow needs to win? He said he's putting his life on the line, so it's gotta be something.

Has the last couple episodes been outsourced to a different animation company? I don't know if it's just me but I've noticed a quality drop. Hopefully they're saving budget to make these last few episodes look insane.
