I keep getting these notifications and I am like the movie is already done why are they adding stuff to it if it's already old

They add pictures to that anime.
Wenn you click onto an anime you can see more than one picture wenn you slide it to the left

a picture, piece of film, or display used to illustrate or accompany something.

Honestly, I wish the MAL app would let you customize which notifications you get. There are way too many notifications regarding stuff like new visuals and new discussions. I just want to know when a new ep comes out for a show I watch, or if a show on my PTW starts airing. I can look at the app home page for the rest of that stuff. I know it’s a fairly new app - hopefully later versions will offer more customization.

I got like 8 of these "new visual added" notifications on the app today so far, they should really add a toggle to turn off just this kind of notification. Why is this still not an option?
