THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
This was probably one of the best episodes of the series. We see yet another short era start and end. These troubled times sure have a lot of them. They rushed a bit through this one, but considering Ibuya's house arresst condemning him to a role of a passive observer it didn't feel that off.

The final day of the shogunate from Ibuya's perspective was quite depressing. The episode did a very good job fo conveying his loyalty and faith in the shogunate, his determination to try to save it, and afterwards the despair of not having been able to do anything.

Personally I couldn't relate too much to his stubbornness regarding the matter since I don't really see what makes the shogunate that great. I think the approach that all his friends took, to focus on what's best and most realistic for the country, the people, instead of getting that hung up on this specific form of government. But nonetheless the show managed to convey his attachment and emotional state very well.
I probably regret this post by now.

I don't really mind that they rushed through the events. The most imporant aspect, the consequences and the impact on the characters was delivered quite well.

Seeing the one thing you've always believed in crumble down must be hella depressing. I just hope Ibuya gets a grip and that we don't get a tragic conclusion for him, even tho it's seems very likely. But who know's, maybe Aya will be a good enough reason for him to carry on.

Too bad that there's only one episode left, this series was a pretty great watch.

Sad to see Manjrou so helplessly with his beliefs and loyalty in the shogunate shattered after they abandoned the castle. Despite many of his comrades already having tried to convince him, I guess for his stubborness he really needed to see the shogunate fall apart like that to fully move on.
