THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- Hikaru has become a solid Pro Go player. Its a shame, its been 6 years since the special aired and, even after 70+ episodes, the story still doesn't feel concluded. You'd think by now they would of made a second season or another special. Ah well.. This is going to sound stupid but... Lets all strive to find a "divine move" of our own in our lives. |

I thought it was a really good episode, felt like a natural continuation to where the series left off. TsubakiMH said: the story still doesn't feel concluded. You could always check out the manga, Im fairly sure that has been completed, watching this episode made me want to read it |

A continuation of the original Hikaru no Go plot line. Although I did enjoy it a lot, I believe that it could have been much better. It was definitely lacking in character development and the plot was not very intriguing, but the audio was still magnificent. I enjoyed watching it and wish the series continued on. |

Well it's a nice special to have but I find it pretty disappointing to see an anime that made it 75 episodes and yet still never get finished. I mean when it comes down to it Hikaru is still a 1-dan, never beat his rival, didn't win his honinbou league prelim match, and never even once won against a heavyweight veteran player. I got one word to describe this series above all others it would be anticlimactic. Though still enjoyable which is the only reason I'm whining about the squandered potential in the first place. |

A very nice addition to the series, but it still left me craving more. I mean, the way the story is, there's no way to really tie up all the loose ends (unless maybe it flashed way forward to Hikaru being an old man with several titles under his belt and finally pulling off the divine move against Akira ftw), but I wanted to at least see the team league matches. Maybe I should read the manga but I hear that ends on an even less satisfying note. I knew as soon as Ochi offered to challenge Yashiro with his spot on the line that he was going to lose to him, they made it blatantly obvious who was the stronger player. They wrapped that up in like a minute anyway, so it's not like the lack of dramatic tension really hurt the ending. Overall a very solid OVA but I need more Hikaru no Go! 9/10 |

"5-5" "Tengen" "5-5" lolwut? One hell of a match, and it's all over the place. Ugh, hopefully Studio Pierrot decides to animate the rest of the series. I really liked this OVA, the Ogata vs Akira and Morishita vs Hikaru, loved the afterwords too. |

Damn, this match was really great, probably my favorite, because all the people were like" Huh?" xD Felt awesome to watch. The only problem I have with this special is, that it still doesn't feel like an end. *sigh* Guess I really have to read the rest in the manga. |

Ahhh I wish there was more. I mean, we didn't even meet Ko Yongha or Hong Suyong. Gahhhhh. Everything is left so open I'm just sitting there like, "yes? and then? what's going to happen next? why isn't there another episode?" |

Man, when they titled this "Journey to the North Cup", they sure meant it. I thought we were gonna see the actual North Cup being played out, but we were just taken on a "journey" towards it and this OVA just felt like 3 regular episodes stitched together into one. The match between Hikaru and the new kid was quite cool. Ochi putting his tournament place on the line seemed a little bit out of character though, it felt like a forced way to get the new kid into the final team. Honestly, HnG has been so good and now I'm left ruing even more about the wasted potential of this show. I guess I'm gonna give the manga a read at some point, just to see what unsatisfying end that gives me... |

Can't really agree, Ochi always had pride and his main goal always was to get recognised by others, especially Touya. However, no one cared about his win. They barely even remembered to congratulate him what means they do not see him as worthy. The only way to make people acknowledge him, is to prove them wrong and win against those they admire. He sure has lots of guts, I would probably just prove myself in actual tournament, to show I'm on par instead of risking the opportunity. But then again, if he were to go and lose, there would be no end of people whispering behind his back "If instead of Ochi went Yashiro, we would have won..." That would hurt a lot. For a movie that was meant to focus on pre-tournament matches, there was way too much on side stuff that should have been done back in the series instead of wasting 15 episodes on useless flashbacks. It made movie lack some of the excitement. And since there is no continuation, there isn't much of achievement in the series =/ Just why did they never animate actual championships? That's like the hype point! |

So, even this special has decided to troll me... they used "this" soundtrack again in the game of hikaru vs yashiro. I just can't seem to find this soundtrack anywhere and yet they've used it a bunch of times in the anime and now in this OVA... this is really frustrating. The track in question : https://youtu.be/ZebUTJtOMwg?t=9m10s ( shindo vs ouchi here ) |

I wish they had shown the North Star Cup. They lopped off the best part of this arc because of the Korean objections. Watching Hikaru scare Ko Yeongha would have been worth the price of admissiob |

Wow, Isumi passed the exam by winning all his games, we didn't know that and he defeated Kuwabara in his first pro game. Hikaru defeated Kadowaki on his own this time but he couldn't defeat Morishita. Akira couldn't defeat Ogata either, they both need more time to get to their level. I changed my opinion of Ochi, he was awesome for requesting that game, and he lost it. It's a pity we won't see the games against China or Korea. |

i believe this special have shown why it's not worth to continue the anime to the last arc. first of all, i got the strong feeling that must of the matches are like in hajime no ippo, that madhouse did take the most parts of it to the other anime but the main, there's a lot of characters work here beside every match, second, as other said, there's no real conclusion here though the story to be good, and even the story isn't the same, watching hikaru and akira grows will enjoy every fan but the goal here is much less interesting, and the story revolves more about the play itself. and as the special goes a lot happens and some of the matches and their conclusion doesn't target well, and i mean by akira and hikaru loses their matches though to be so overrated, hikaru is actually finishes the special with good matches but the middle of the special points out that hikaru is not that good, it sure show us how much he grew but it's not like the series to do that. i'm not saying the special disappoint, but more of showing us that we do not miss nothing by let us end the franchise here, the tournament was short enough to insert into a 80 minutes and it was very smilier to the pro exams preliminaries story, and yashiro wasn't that interesting, the interesting part was his playing, but then again, the series didn't even focused much on the playing itself, and that's the reason this special didn't turn into a short OVA series. |

Really pleasurable to watch if you have the craving for more Hikaru no Go after finishing the main series. 8/10 for me. Love Hikaru no Go. There's no divine move, and Hikaru hasn't advanced much farther than at the end of the main series, but I still thought it was well done. It felt very much seamless with the main series. I just miss Sai. Sai was so great. *sigh* |
