| I actually liked the arc. The fact that Aki is an emotional mess was something I gathered early on. The assault scene was not ideal but thankfully it did not end with rape. It was also clear that Aki did it mainly out of self-hate and he felt even worse afterwards. I really felt for Haru. Aki knows that he fucked up and this is why he said he wants to be one a man worthy to be Haru's love. I am expecting some more bumps in the road but I do hope this will end with a happy ending. Ugetsu and Aki had a very poisonous relationship. Bad for the character but fascinating to read about. So far, I am still very happy with Given. It is easily the best BL Manga out there and tons better than most other straight forward BL mangas. |
| I finally got around to reading the manga because I couldn't wait for the movie any longer and oh boy, do I have feelings about this. I was pretty behind AkiHaru when I watched the anime, even though I was hella intrigued by Ugetsu, so I was curios how it would turn out. I think the point, when the AkiHaru ship lost me completely was when Akihiko assaulted Haruki. I know it didn't end with rape (and thank god for that) but it doesn't change the fact that I am hella uncomfortable with stuff like this and I dislike pretty much any ship that relies on this trope. After that I just couldn't get into them, I just didn't buy it. I know this is a very personal thing and I get why people like it. But I just don't. I disliked their scenes, their dynamic and I didn't really buy Akihiko being in love with him (even though I acknowledge him trying to change after what he did was a good move). Haruki got super boring to me and so did the ship (boring may be the wrong word because it's not as if I was indifferent to them). And it didn't help that the dynamic which interested me way more was right there - I LOVE AkiGetsu. They are absolutely awful for each other, this is not a healthy relationship. But I was at the edge of my seat reading all of their scenes. I wanted them to find a way to communicate with each other, to honestly tell each other their feelings. Their break up was super well handled and absolutely heartbreaking. I am not even complaining they broke up at that point because they had to. I just kind of wished Akihiko didn't get together with Haruki after that. That Haru got a chance to move on and Akihiko and Ugetsu heal from their disaster of a relationship separately (with a tiny possibility of them talking and getting back together at the end). I know this is not a popular opinion. But i still wanted to share it. |
