So far I am liking was studio MAPPA has done with this adaptation, but I will wait for a few more episodes before I rate it.

The OP is amazing, and I hope they release the single soon.

I really loved the first episode. Really did.

The characters are lovable and interesting to all ends.

I've been on such a Mortal Kombat and fighting game binge as of late, so I'm super hyped for this, and I cannot wait for more.

Well it was wild. I'll give it that. We got an intro to some of the characters in the tournament. But its left me wondering what came first, tower of god or god of high school.

Pretty decent. Looking a lot better than TOG.

That announcer’s nose rivaling Kaiji’s though.

Loved it, laughed a lot, I'm definitely gonna watch this this season

PD: It's a little bit weird that the opening and ending are in English but I get it's MANHWA

Edit: don't compare this with Tower of God just because is a manhwa

A good first episode.

The directing actually surprised me a bit, though the plot is pretty straight forward. Did feel a bit rushed, situationally.
Ofc, the animation is buttery but that's common with a first episode. Let's see how it holds up.

I'm one of the people that haven't read the manhwa/only read a portion of it so i'm going in blind and not really
expecting anything more than some entertaining fights.
Those that did read it said that this season will be extremely rushed since it has a lot to adapt but only time will tell.

The future is certainly bright for manhwa with this and ToG. This first episode was straight fire. Crazy good animation, over the top action and testosterone everywhere

The ED may be even better than the OP. Love that vibe.

Honestly, manhwa is capable of introducing a new flare in anime. When I first started watching anime, only seeing a handful of martial arts type anime was big disappointment for me. This was so much more euphoric for me because of that.

And goddamn the animation was swift, smooth and creative.

This was pleasant surprise. While I am webtoon reader I had a little expectations of it, but the episode was very enjoyable. I felt weird about how they handled the beginning of stroy. Well, I think it gonna turn out fine. At least the animation was pretty good and I have some hopes for series as a whole.

Not everyone is a source reader. You will find various liars everywhere, claiming to know everything when they actually know nothing about it.Same with GoH here. More than half are fake and just going along with the hype. And when they like it, they mention being source reader to give more credibility for whatever opinion they shared.
(Does not apply to everyone but liars population are higher)

I read about 50 chapters of the webtoon, but aside from it being a little rushed narratively speaking, it had amazing animation!

This anime will be outstanding on the technical note.

They jumped right into some stuff and paced it a little weirdly (hope they put the introductions in the next episode) but other than that it seems really good. I can see though that it will be heavily focused on fighting and I can't complain.
The animation is sick! That fighting choreography. I'm glad it's not sloppy.
I don't know how I feel about the OP itself, the visuals were awesome though.

I would be judgemental like I am at the moment, not gonna lie. It is common sense actually, if you find a certain mediums most praised works decent at most then maybe they aren't meant for you or they aren't up to your standards. At least the first few suggestions someone gets when starting to anime/manga is usually really good.

Regardless, I'm not a close minded person -hopefully-. I would be more than happy to give a chance to your must read/great webtoons. Who knows, maybe you can open a whole new medium for me.

I’m shocked this is rated so high. I found it underwhelming.

With the humor liken to Gin Tama I was expecting a bit more. CR sure has flown the GOH banner and waved it proudly. Typical MAPPA animation that reminded me of Ushio & Tora which I suffered through and Listeners which I dropped after episode 4, I was very unimpressed.
Stereotype fight scenes and cliche goofy comedy thrown in. I did like when Mira Yu faceplanted the sign. That had me LOL but not much more.

I plan on going back and reading everyone’s posts thus far to try and figure out the scores it has been given.

This will certainly be a 3 and drop/keep for me. I’m clearly leaning towards dropping.

Adapting like 120 chapters in 13 episodes could be a big yikes when ToG struggled to do 78 in the same episode count but the fights have always been the best thing about GoH for me and so far those look pretty clean. Really don't know why they went with 13 episodes though, maybe with ToG you could argue that 24 would have been too many but 24 episodes really feels like it would have been ideal for GoH.

Generic AF. Animation is great but the choreography is utter garbage. Way too edgy and try-hard. Specifically trying hard to be cool. Felt like a lot of moments were supposed to be give reactions like "Omg wow!" but they all fell flat because they tried too hard.

A lot of characters also look more similar than even normal anime lol.

CR product placement also felt really out of place. But they threw a lot of money into this so of course that would be a thing.

Edit: also the comedy was pure garbage. I guess this is for middle schoolers? I assume even High School kids would be past this kind of comedy

I don't give a shit about plot, characters, or anything else- but damn was it fucking cool. I feel like a 13 year old boy watching this. All the dumb, cool shit that everyone wants- chase scene on bicycle, battle royale, some bizarre explanation about nanomachines (hooray for bypassing the lawsuits!), etc.

It's basic enough to understand what the characters are about- a dumbass with a heart of gold, a megane with a muscle fetish and a katana, and a broke part-timer with a stoic personality. Obviously, they will have to temporarily team up in the tournament to defeat the bad guys behind the whole operation, or some shit like that, lol.

I hope MAPPA can maintain this level of animation quality for 13 episodes. If so, we got a worthwhile watch.

I'm not surprised that this better received than Tower of God so far to make a comparison.

There's not much to think about here, i went in expecting great choreography, good fights, enjoyable characters with their own fighting style and sakuga. Just what i got, i can't complain.

I expected this to be rated fairly high around the 8.00 mark but this is even more than i thought, this very much appeals to the casual watcher.

Right but I think Mappa will do it justice cause I think they got the author involved. As for TOG...if they don’t get us a better staff (I really want a new studio but that won’t happen) or a experienced director I’ll riot. They took too much liberties with season 1.

I went in to this expecting to dislike it, since fighting shounen isn't really my favorite, but I was pleasantly surprised. I liked this episode enough to at least want to stay on the train for the next few stops! It doesn't hurt that this clearly was a step up in quality from ToG.

Pls tell me how the choreography is bad. At some scenes it has some of the best choreography I’ve seen in a while. Maybe it’s all the trash I’ve seen but to me it doesn’t seem bad. Only parts I can see it being bad is Miras sword hitting four guys and Daewi hitting four dudes in one punch.

I thought it did very well, although it looks like they may be ditching a few plot points entirely.

That being said, i don't necessarily think that said plot points are super integral to the story and if some things have to be cut for time, i don't think we lose much if we cut those. There's a couple other things that may have been cut (Judge R/Blonde Judge's Injury), but it's likely that will be explored in flashback, as well as the motives for the main trio joining the tournament. In the webtoon this setup was done before the fights, but doing it in flashback could actually help with pacing. Given the limited episode count and the fact that they are essentially adapting 112 chapters based on key visuals, going with a slightly looser adaptation that preserves the key aspects of the early arcs, cuts out the fat, and reworks some of the rougher elements could honestly work really well, and if they aren't bound to 100% accuracy and more 80% ish, then that allows them to have a better paced season. So long as the important details are preserved, then i'm happy.

Animation wise, it's excellent. It does the webtoon justice. Character wise, most of the voices sounded pretty good. The one exception for me is Judge P (Blue Haired Lady), who i expected to have a slightly deeper, Riza Hawkeye-esqe voice. Im not saying the voice doesn't work, but it definitely wasn't what i expected. Seriously though, if she ends up sharing an english VA with Riza i think that would be spot on for her character.

One other thing that stood out was the fact that Gang Man-Seok was called Kang Manseok. It's not a huge issue, but whatever.

It's certainly the best animated thing of the season so far by a massive mile. It does, unfortunately, share the rest of the season's trend so far in not having any kind of plot, and nearly every character being a screaming ninny. Or perhaps it'd be more accurate to say that it has three plots, and only the most tenuous connection between them.

It starts off with corrupt, uh, publishers I guess, lounging on a remote island, plotting to overthrow the government, except that the government is a dude who can psychically squash islands apparently. That's then dropped so we can check in with a kid who has a thing for helping old people chasing a mugger on a bike, running into what I assume are going to be his buddies, which include one screaming girl, a screaming rapper, and the rarest gift of all, just some quiet, competent dude. At that point, they get half dropped from the show to switch to a montage of the titular tournament. By the time focus switches back to a named character rather than demo reels of randos, the episode unceremoniously ends.

They aren't publishers, they're rival politicians. and Mujin Park (Mr Cross Hand) is not the government, he's just the head of their rival party. To put it in U.S terms, less "President" and more "Senate Majority Leader". And as for physically squashing islands, it's not a physical power. Every Shounen anime has some sort of superpower/magic/etc that can be collectively be referred to as "Anime Bullshit". This is God of High School's. And while the specific ability of Mujin Park is one of the stronger ones, there's a lot more to the magic system than just crushing islands.

Reviving a character for a million time is perfectly fine lmao? and Yelling your lungs out makes u op?and these are not even the worst of the story.

DB at least knew what it was. It stayed faitful to itself from the begining till end. Goh on the other hand went from martial arts, to fucking god powers. If it stayed where it started we could actually argue here. But Goh literally got worse and worse after the timeskip. It peaked with Ragnarok and then just died. It is literally a dead story right now. You can love it as much as you want, but it should've stayed in its lane. It tried to be something it was never supposed to be and ruined the story completely. Author reseting shit tells you something in itself lmao.
It's perfectly fine even now, anyway.

Honestly, if I didn’t know that this is a Japanese adaptation of the Korean Manhwa that the Americans paid for, then I would think that this is a perfectly adapted martial shonen with a somewhat specific art design. The entertainment is great and honestly, this is one of the best MA animations I've seen in recent years, but the character design looks too generic and simple for me. But I will survive, at least if the show continues to maintain such a pace and level.
