The official website for Nihon Chinbotsu 2020 (Japan Sinks 2020)—directed by Masaaki Yuasa (Devilman: Crybaby)—revealed the first trailer on Friday. Netflix Japan's official Twitter account also announced supporting cast members. The anime will be available for streaming on Netflix worldwide on July 9.

Cast
Haruo Koga: Hiroyuki Yoshino (Haikyuu!!)
Nanami Miura: Nanako Mori (Shiyan Pin Jiating)

A 41-track soundtrack by Kensuke Ushio (Ping Pong the Animation, Devilman: Crybaby) has also been confirmed and will be released on August 26.

Nihon Chinbotsu 2020 adapts Sakyou Komatsu's 1973 sci-fi novel titled Nihon Chinbotsu (Japan Sinks). The novel has also been adapted into two live-action films releasing in 1973 and 2006, a live-action drama which aired from 1974 to 1975, and a manga adaptation in 1970 by Takao Saitou.

Wow. Powerful trailer. This is looking good.

"They escaped the weight of darkness,
to forge a path into the marrow of the spirit.
They chose to drown in a deeper vacancy,
an emptiness that quells the null,
a pool for the forgotten..."
