Why is this so different from the Manga?

I haven't read the novel yet just Manga but the Anime seems entirely different. Is this how the novel starts?

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Anime is anime and visually visceral, comparing it to other literary formats where words invoke imagination is pointless.

No, i kinda feel like they have totally changed both the character and changed/skipped major story point and world building to add in pointless gags. It is at a point now where i stopped watching halfway into episode 7 cause i felt it was so bad. it is a shame, cause i really love the LN, but i cringe to much from the characters now to even keep watching. I feel they are so pathetic compared to their LN counter-part.
