I heard this was like an earlier Madoka. On Ep 6 and so far it's been kind of forgettable.
Shoot first, think never.

For me, it was around episode 14 and 15 when it became one of the best anime ever made. Mai-Otome also has a very slow start and an awesome second half.

Damn, over 50% of it is as dull as the first few episodes? I don't know that I can take that. Kind of confused why it's so popular.

Yeah... I got to about episode 10 and decided this wasn't for me.

It isn't before the Searrs arc that the manure really starts hitting the fan, which is around ep 15, although there is some foreshadowing much earlier. In my opinion the second half was well worth the somewhat dull slice of life in the first half.

Because it had everything the common 2000s internet consumer could dream of...
- a "magic school",
- giant beasts
- that are mechanical-like,
- warrior/wizard girls,
- a collection of them ! (it was important back then)
- in this dull 2000s design
- and sporting the vital big breasts,
- simple yet precise character types for every one of them,
- but later uncovered as slightly less "simple",
- don't forget the go-to anime music composer of those years, Kajiura Yuki,
- and probably the same goes with certain voice actors (but I was never into the 2000s voice celebrities so I can't tell)
- and after a few episodes, constant turnarounds and episodes desperately trying to top each other's dramatical peak.
- a final battle for the universe.

SUNRISE basically made a pot-pourri of what could please people and a far too big coverage of the series by fansub teams ensured the series was at the center of the internet anime people's attention.

It's the Code GEASS of its years ! (I was so annoyed by the noisy internet crowds around this extremely engineered recipe that I didn't start the series before 2012.)

Your problem is that you aren't "from that time period". A gloubiboulga of popular elements from now would be far more effective on you, I think.
