Knowing this isn't really canon, I actually still quite liked this story. This really seems to fit in right after the Greed Island arc and to be honest I wouldn't have minded a similar arc to this right after a specific arc with Kite before the Ant Arc so just in between there to actually see ever true main character of this series.

This sure had some really great parts in it, but then again would spoil Netero's power, but that's another thing that I really liked and that was the backstory we've gotten from him which was very interesting together with the backstory we've gotten in the ant arc.

But as this is not canon I can't really say if I really should consider this a part of the story or not, but in general I do include it as a part of the anime franchise!

This one is worse than Phantom Rouge. The story is generic and the new villains are generic. You think the friendship theme has been overdone in the last movie? Oh watch this one to get your mind blown. The fights......they are some of the most boring fights i have seen in a shonen anime and the On concept is also pretty uninspired and unoriginal. While Nen is used by Utilizing life energy, On is derived from hatred and can be considered as a death energy(It's possible that the black auras that Gon is omitting during episode 116 of the TV series is On). The animation....seven hells the TV series heck even PR is way better from what i have seen. I can't believe Madhouse produced something like this.

Maybe some of you guys can enjoy this but...i want my money back..

Solid start but then it became garbage.
Yet another asspull from Gon and the friendship not unlike the first movie.
I felt like in the two movies all they did was basically mimic generic shounen and what made hxh great was lost in the process.
Honestly disappointed.

The whole On thing makes sense taking into consideration what Gon used to against Pitou. Although pretty unlikely, this On thing is probably filler.

This wasn't the best non-canon movie ever but I don't think that this movie is as bad as the others say since I at least enjoyed this more than the first movie which was just okay. There were some pretty cheesy moments like Gon powering up all of a sudden because he had a forgiving heart and Killua's chat with that girl and the artstyle being very off most of the time but it was good enough for me. Netero's past being expanded on was very interesting too~

This flick had a lot of fanservice which are stuff I would've liked to see more of but couldn't because of story reasons, and I really liked it. Moments like Gon and Killua having fun with Kite, the gang being back together and using their weapons like the fishing rod and the yoyos, Leorio using Nen, and Netero along with some other familiar faces showing up and lending a hand really upped the enjoyment factor for me here.

I was thinking about On probably being better off not being a thing in favor of just expanding on Nen which has so much potential already like with how Gon forged a covenant to kill Neferpitou but I guess that it was a pretty interesting concept nonetheless. It felt more like a subset of Nen that removes its limiters than its counterpart though.

from the first second the movie has started i felt this is going to be bad, i thought it will improve but instead just were worse from any minute, really waste of time.
they tried to make jed like scar from fma but it really didn't went well and except deepen the story of them and make it interesting they rushed the whole thing to get to the action, they tried to make us pity them but instead i didn't pity any of the shadow members and just wanted them to die.
the action repeating itself from the first movie to be non-smart unlike the anime, the art is very little polished from the anime plus some effects.
really the worst anime movie i ever saw, total waste of time.

They really turned HxH into some Naruto power of nakama garbage. Only thing missing was Gon screaming "Gaki was the coolest guy!"

Well, that was awful.

Started fine, then gradually got worse till I laughed at the end. Saved by friendship? Random power-up? Come on.

There were plot holes but the stuff you mentioned are not one of them.

The following were hinted heavily:
Gon's first phase after accepting On was heavily weakened. His strength increased, but not by much. It was more-so his bloodlust that visibly increased. There are veins all over him and there's even dialogue explaining that Gon is having an internal conflict with On. The conflict was what limited the increase in power at first. Netero: "Gon has to fight On by himself", right before Killua's involvement surprised him.

Killua was able to not only solve this conflict but also redirect it. He calmed, reassured, and reminded Gon. Since On's rules and limitations allowed this, Gon was able to then make full use of its power. It was not some "random power-up".

The actual plot armor/hole is the logic flaw of Jed. Since On was his creation, he made the rules, which obviously turned out to be too lax. When Gon started using On against Jed at first, Jed realized this stupidly late: Gon didn't want to and wasn't fighting against a Hunter, so the rule that one must not lose against a Hunter didn't even apply. Jed's blood doesn't have strong mind control effects, but it was previously fine since the people exploiting Jen's blood were all loyal to Jed and his goal. When Jed realized this, he threatened to absorb Gon's power if he did not comply. Again, the start of the plot hole is that Jed can't be this stupid and late to catch on. The final stamp was that he did not follow up on this threat. He simply tossed Gon away after getting a firm grip on his neck. Maybe Jed was having second thoughts? There was no indication. It would've been much safer for the plot's integrity to somehow arrange another character to knock away the grip and save Gon as Jed is initiating punishment.

There are lots of scenes in anime where the power of friendship is corny and random. But a gigantic theme of the entire movie is revenge vs. friendship. While it's stupid to input the power of friendship as a plot device in random scenarios, it's even more stupid to hate its input where it actually fits.

Another generic Shonen one-time baddie movie. 5/10

On a side note it was cool seeing all those cameos... but whats the point of having Hisoka, Bisky, and Netero if they dont do anything... and when the hell is this supposed to take place after they ran in with Kite there was no time for anything like this.

I feel like you missed most of the bigger picture.

Hisoka did a lot to save everyone. He even personally explained to you his metaphor of poker cards to characters involved in the event. Jed's reincarnation was significantly weaker than Hisoka, so he had no interest in a direct 1v1. His goal in the entire movie was to be entertained. As always, he arranged opportunities for growth for Gon and Killua, as one would fatten up livestock before the slaughter, since he wants them to be as strong as possible in the future in order to fight them for fun. He placed players such as Leorio in the correct places in the correct time in order to assure that his livestock would not die and also so that the fiesta would be more lively and entertaining. Lastly, he was observing and experimenting his pawns from the sidelines regarding On and Jed's blood. It's likely that he had thoughts about using Jed's blood to create powerful rivals, but he learned its limitations.

Bisky stayed with the audience to protect them. Wing and Biscuit both stated and implied this.

Netero did not fight back because again, Jed's reincarnation is incredibly weak, and because Netero felt extremely guilty as he could've prevented this entire tragedy and not lost a friend into an enemy. There are several flashbacks dedicated to this. It also connects with the Chimera Ant Arc's theme of darkness in humanity which is often forced onto those in positions of power. Netero's past sins haunt him as he continues to sin for his position in the association. Overall, the threat in this movie was actually very low. The terrorism of Jed's reincarnation was like a curse murmured under one's dying breath, and that's further shows how deep the grudge is. Netero knew this, so he let Jed punch him over and over without retaliating. Netero wanted to release as much grudge of Jed as possible before Jed was sent to Nirvana.

I'm disappointed to see so many generic complaints about the movie. There are movies out there that are hard to analyze. This is not one of them. It made efforts in both dialogue and visuals to guide you through analysis.

Yet, many of you guys failed at the basics and are questioning parts that were answered clearly. There are plot holes and plot armor but many of the people here haven't even made it close to that yet. Please just add a *teeny* bit more effort as to not extremely disappoint those who worked hard to make HxH.

I hope that my previous 2 replies can answer most of your complaints and I'm open to discuss more.

This movie was amazing. I finished watching HxH back in 2014 but for some reason I never watched the 2 movies. It was great to hear all the soundtracks again and see the characters not to mention seeing Netero fight again, I thought I would never see it again.

The movie was almost non stop action for it's entire duration, with pretty good looking animation btw and much better than the first movie. In the first movie the characters were empty shells that just looked like Gon and Killua but here we actually had Gon acting as Gon.

The only criticism I have is that the ending felt a bit weird with Gon being able to easily overcome everything just because he's the protagonist, they should have made Netero be the one to finish things imo. But then again, none of this is canon so these things can be overlooked as it was still enjoyable to watch.

Wait, did Gon just oneshot the antagonist with the power of friendship? And here I thought HxH is so different from other shounen shows hmmmmm..... though it's just a movie and not canon, I know I know.
Funny how Hisoka was just there for fanservice and did literally nothing at all lol

The one saving grace of this movie were the characters and their voices. If you're a Hunter fan, you should probably go in with low expectations. If you're new to this series, do not watch. This is definitely not representative of the rest of the series.

Idk why i forget listing this on my mal. Better late than nothing, suit well here. Honestly, i watch this movie just for bisky only back there. Oh, a bit Zushi too, i guess. Look how the boy suddenly become the floor master xd. Too bad, Bisky didn't get a significant amount of screen time, which is really a let-down back there. Another notice: idk why but the ship toward the quartet mc felt really strong over this movie. Curse me xd. Thats all.

Better than the previous film. The animation has a good quality compared to the anime. There is no real sense of danger. They recycled songs from the anime. Anime film cliché: villain or situation that will only exist in the film. Now I REALLY understand the ship between Leorio and Kurapika.

Found this better than the first movie but there were still plenty of issues I'd with the movie. Killua's one-liner of friendship got Gon out of pinch, that was kind of hilarious and anticlimactic but oh well, that's what you get in shounen films more often than not.

Didn't get much of a fight from Netore-san or Biscuit-san, I was looking forward to that. Was there even a meaning behind Hisoka's presence xD?

Some of the soundtracks stood out too. A plus I wasn't exactly expecting.

Apparently it's not can but also not really after Greed Island because they already met with Kite who we haven't seen in episode 75 yet (but seen in the 1999 version)
I guess I should've at least watched 1 more episode since I'm guessing Kite's in episode 76 judging by the 1999 version of events.

Zushi got buff!

Fantastic fights but the story was pretty generic, Netero and Jed reminded me a lot of Naruto and Sasuke, especially with their Aura powers.
Enjoyed this more than the first movie, at least the animation was solid this time.
Also ... The Power of Friendship prevails! - I guess.
