| Well, since someone decided to revive this thread, I might as well give an update on the OP. I did finish Citrus after all, and like I originally thought, the story was god-awful. The yuri scenes were all right, but I wish they were more frequent and intense. Regardless, they are the only reason I didn't give this anime a 1/10. |

You will see really innocent BL that will have kissing at most (the anime and manga Given for example) and then you have raunchy/sexual ones like for example, Escape Journey or one I recently read called Kare no Shousou to Koi ni Tsuite. Basically there's a scale of innocent/vanilla to super smutty/borderline H BL manga but from what I've read in GL, (I've read maybe less than 100) it's mostly innocent. Doujins it's another story but I prefer manga to dj since I want to read an actual story. The thing with GL manga is that I think most of them is aimed towards women so they don't make it super fetishized or sexual, it's really pretty and shoujo-y which isn't BAD but sometimes we all just wanna see the sexual part to two people's romantic relationship since IRL, it definitely isn't that innocent. Whereas, in BL manga it's also aimed towards women but BL mangaka are shameless and put a lot of sex and fetish in their manga which I'm completely ok with and support. Like for example Yarichin Bitch Bu is a super sexualized one and provides a lot of fanservice and cliches. There are a lot of BL manga that are balanced very well, so they have a great story with good character development but at least like two or three amazing sex scenes in the later chapters. But then again, I've read 10x the amount of BL compared to GL so it's hard to say... Hopefully someone can prove me wrong? But I've done some research already and the biggest Yuri manga are all cutesy vanilla stuff. Citrus is like one of the exceptions. |

Thank you, that was enlightening I wasn't aware BL manga could be that shameless when putting side to side with GL. I hope there will be more shameless yuri series in the future. I pretty much enjoy the innocent/vanilla type of yuri more since they can develop their characters better than the one that focus more on fanservice. I just hope one day we'll receive an anime adaptation of one yuri manga that can blend fanservice/fetishe with good character development. That would be amazing. |
