Terrible episode. Just characters that I have no reason to care for walking and a constant info dump about something I also have no reason to care for. Decent directing but that's about it. Terrible and confusing fight only meant to show the fire girl powers, the problem being that I don't care about her yet. Such a monotonous episode with literally nothing interesting happening until the very end. Not even the mystery is engaging enough. Dropped. |

Wow, this episode was legitimately pathetic. I'm a huge fan of the original Madoka, but this series is truly chocking up to absolutely nothing at all. The direction is shoddy, the narrative is entirely disjointed, and WTF is with the pacing? Ugh, this is basically a S;G 0 incident all over again. I'll continue to give it the benefit of the doubt as it's not too late for Magia to redeem itself, but this is really, really bad. |

jTiKey said: It's not a second season; as the name outright states, it's a side story. The main problem is that it's a compressed version of a gaccha game's story: the original had plenty of room to breathe(the better to drain your AP with, my dear), so things could be explored more in-depth and random witch encounters didn't derail the pacing.Dropped. A disgrace to the first season. Just a fanservice lolli cash grab at the level of steins;gate 0 EpicYarn said: Very much true, but it could have been handled much better - notice we don't even get to see what happened to the witch's grief seed, meaning the plot point could have easily been handled by omitting the fight and having Iroha ruminating on her need to defeat a Kamihama witch and earn one(and not wanting to ask Yachiyo for one because she doesn't want to be a burden). If they really needed to present a witch battle first, they could have tied it in better by having the battle itself inspire them to look at the shrine at night, perhaps by having one of the familiars present the witch with something with a moon-and-shrine design(with said object falling near our girls after being violently rejected). It was actually important, it was to deplete Iroha's soul gem. It showed just afterwards that her soul gem got darker which is very important |

Yah the pace they're going at is causing them to cut out or completely change some events from the mobile game. For example the Uwasa of the Stairs from the last episodes has a completely different scenario where Rena, instead of saying she hates Kaede as her "apology" gives a genuine apology where she owns up to every mean thing she's done to Kaede and how important she actually is to her and stuff. The Uwasa also brainwashing Kaede so that they girls have to subdue her first, Rena gets grabbed by familiars and is taken to the Uwasa and is physically beaten and attacked by it as it brainwashes her like Kaede, and succeeds. Iroha and Yachiyo manage to beat the Uwasa which saves Kaede and Rena and removes the brainwashing that was on them. That and to become part of the rumor you didn't need to write your name on literal stairs. So long as you stopped being friends and then tried to make up within a general area you qualified, as a good number of people go missing because of that rumor do to it's area of effect being quite wide spread. Even the fight with the supermarket witch was condensed a good deal and changed a bit. It doesn't go down nearly as easy as in the anime, the game using it to showcase that the witches are indeed stronger than normal in this city, and in the end Iroha gives Yachiyo the grief seed because, while both their gems are growing dark, Iroha states Yachiyo's is worse. Hopefully they slow down a little and stop cutting/changing parts because it's starting to make things a bit messy and really jarring to watch pace wise. While we probably won't get a lot of character development, especially for some neat characters like the Coordinator and her powers/wish since they're shown in the games side stories, hopefully they keep some of the little things in that help flesh out the characters. |

Hm... i'm really not feeling this anime so far.. i think the story has been really underwhelming imo. Hopefully it can get better from now on. Still want to see how will Iroha find her little sister tho, and the ost is still amazing, kinda like the original. But yeah, my expecatations were too high for this in the beginning, and now i'm slowly getting disappointed. |

I can understand how it can get confusing, since few if any of the girls have actual family names. All the girls in both the original series and Magireco have a family name that's also a given name, right? xelhes05 said: That and to become part of the rumor you didn't need to write your name on literal stairs. I guess you may say it's boring and you are not interested in it. Well, at least those elaboration do arouse my curiousty, and I really want to see what will happen in the end. It will be a pity if you drop it now. People are not focusing on minor details, hence they find it boring. No one asked why even Kyubey didn't remember Iroha's wish, why the bunny witch looks the same as the bunny doll in Iroha's bedroom, who's actually the little kyubey, why can't the real kyubey enter Kamihama, why Iroha is in Kamihama, who's the person Yachiyo sees, etc. But I do see complaints like they should have revealed Iroha's tainted soul gem in some another way, and instead of witch there should have been some minion, and other things. The simple thing is this: there are a lot of magical girls in Kamihama because there are hardly any witches in any other city. The magical girls native to Kamihama are powerful because of the coordinator, hence they can easily finish off any witch. Iroha is weak, and she can hardly kill even the witch minions. Yachiyo from sale deduced some things are limited hence the Shrine may be only active only during certain time. I don't see why the revelation that Iroha's soul gem was tainted should have been handled any other way (it was shown for a few seconds, any other way would waste atleast a minute). To me, the episode ends way too quick, so really can't understand how people find it boring. I don't think any of the arcs have been unnecessary till now. Each episode add/reveals something about the plot. If people are thinking it's irrelevant, it's probably lack of attention or knowledge. |

One more person who isn't really feeling this anime. The witches (or whatever they are) don't seem dangerous at all, and the fights are over too quick and seem to lack any tension. Playing tense circus music over a calm conversation at the beginning was a weird choice, as was the attempt at humor with the supermarket sales. I don't know, it feels like there's not much use of music and scenery? PMMM always had that half-dream quality because of the surreal scenery and great use of BGM, but MR looks like a normal anime where characters are shown talking, with the occasional change in angle to shake things up. I think the most visually interesting sequence was the story of the lady and her lover. I'm not expecting a PMMM clone but, at the same time, they're clearly going for a stylistic connection without going all the way for some reason. |

So that was another episode... and another new character. I have to admit, I'm lost about all of them. There are too many of them and I can't keep them apart at all, just a minority. I hope there won't be too many more of them, otherwise I will definetely loose where the story is going as well. I also get the feeling that the story is progressing around Iroha instead of Iroha progressing the story. Even though she is the one looking for her sister, it's alsways everyone else who does something to progress the plot. That's rather unusual from what I've seen so far and I have to say I don't like it too much. Of course I still like seeing the other characters moving the story forward, but I get the feeling that Iroha herself is not that relevant to the story apart from just beeing Uis' sister. |

This episode was the worst so far. I thought we'd get more Mami but I was wrong, SHAFT just put her on episode 3 so people wouldn't drop this. Is the plot going to be episodic? Like, is it just the girls solving the various rumors? Cause that sounds boring af to me. I really don't want to drop this but it's going nowhere. Let's hope ep 5 is better. |

Beeing weak in battles and beeing the driving force of the plot are not the same things, but it's not that uncommon that the weakest person is the one to bring the plot towards the goal of a series. Although most times the character changes over the time of the series so we might get to see her getting stronger. If there es enough screen-time for her with all the other characters being around. |

She might be Ui's bigger sister but Ui's not the only one she cares about, so she'll play a bigger role in the story (she's the main character, the story is being told from her perspective). I mean, it took twelve episodes for Madoka to be shown doing something in the original if you don't count the flashbacks (if you do count them it took ten episodes). I generally don't like passive protagonists, but we still gotta see if the passiveness is building towards something. |

It is all a progress of a story, if they don't present it, the following development or twist will be abrupt. Or maybe you think the progressing is too slow and boring?(some said too quick) |

salarx said: You called? Here's one. Tbh, I was skeptical at first with MagiReco because it's just a "side story" but when I started watching episode 1, it reconfirmed my love for the franchise so I even started playing the game now. I don't frequent this forum just because I know people won't be satisfied with this unless it has Mami's death 2.0. (They will probably complain too if has one imo, like how it's 'predictable' hurr durr durr)Like seriously where the hell are true PMMM fans? Relax guys, don't expect one more dark magical girl show just because it has the name 'Madoka' on it. It clearly said 'Side Story' in the title. And it's not like it can get a surprise attack like it was with its ancestor when we know it's coming (and expecting). So they took a safe route, that's all. Just FYI, the anime is trying its hardest to be as gloomy as the original while still following the game's story (which is clearly less 'dark' than the original) without derailing. In game: - Mitama is more weird/into yuri than the anime version - Tsuruno is a lot more hyper - Nanami is not that stoic, she was more like a straightman - The trio (Momoko, Rena, Kaede) and Iroha had funny moments during Staircase arc The anime omitted them all, not only to condense the story but also to retain the original atmosphere. My point is, don't expect Madoka Magica Season 2 from this, or you'll be disappointed. There will be proper sequel to the 3rd movie for that. This is just a spinoff where normal magical girls doing normal magical girl things, but with a bit of mystery. People need to see that. Now the thing I want to complain is the game's spartan gameplay. Is it even possible to increase the level cap of girls? Those items demand too much farming. Now I'm stuck at Ch.4 Ep.5 because one of my girls always bites the dust preventing me from getting 3 stars. |

Polycell said: The witch's familiars' purpose is to bring her pretty things, with her throwing a hissy fit if she doesn't like it. Invoking that would actually have given the witch fight a purpose. Well witch fights don't really need a Purpose. It's not that girls will only fight if the familiars steal something. Polycell said: Don't cheat: as it stands, the entire witch sequence has to be counted as part of the revelation, wasting several minutes of everybody's time for something that could be done with a simple line like "I need to find a grief seed soon. If I ask Yachiyo, she'll say I'm a burden and insist I stop getting in her way." I think removing the candy witch and replacing it with an obvious line would offend a lot of people. The little moment of showing of Iroha's soul gem is equivalent to she needs a grief seed, and she wouldn't want to ask Yachiyo or Tsuruno for grief seed since she didn't defeat the witch. The witch fight was good since we get to see Tsuruno fighting. EdHaku said: They are not asking because no one cares about those mysteries enough, and it will all be revealed eventually anyway. That's sad since those details are what makes the show interesting. |

Now I have a lot of 4 stars and even a lot more of 3 stars and no 5 star girl. Always do a 10x draw. |

I understand it has to adapt the mobile game plot and therefore they need the rumors. I just wish they went by the rumors faster and focused primarily on the main plot, or at least gave the spotlight to Iroha more. |

Renkini said: Make sure you're doing the mirrors fights(a number of the ascension/magia enhancement items can be bought in bulk with daily coins) and also participate in the events if you can(their shops usually offer items that are a pain to get otherwise). Also make sure you're using the auto and 2x speed functions - it makes life a lot easier when you can let the game do the grinding for you(however, the autoplayer's stupid, so don't pit it against any mission you can't comfortably sail through). Now the thing I want to complain is the game's spartan gameplay. You're the only one I see who might be offended - most people with an opinion on the issue seem to directly disagree with you.As a side note, this was the bunny-eared witch. The game does refer to a "candy witch", but that's just a mistransliteration of sweets witch(Mami's best friend). The witch fight was good since we get to see Tsuruno fighting. We see her magia and that's about it. Had the fight been long enough where we actually saw any real fighting, people wouldn't be complaining about it.salarx said: You're just going to let the limited-time girls go like that?I too had dark times just like you. Making the witch short-lived filler does a far greater number to its reputation than not appearing. The sandbox witch at least did some impressive damage before meeting its demise. |

Get the event currency, and buy out materials in the shop required for Awakening units. It's a longterm grind, like every other mobile game like it. For just clearing the story, however, go with 2-3 unit teams (including Support). Pick a level 100 Support that counters the element of the enemies in the mission to easily clear. |

Charlotte is the witch form of Nagisa Momoe, and her witch type is Dessert witch. Candy is the witch form of an unspecified Magical Girl, and her witch type is Bunny Eared witch. The names are written in runes font which compared to any English font translates to CHARLOTTE and CANDY respectively. They way I wrote it must have look like I'm talking about their type but I was referring to their respective names. My bad. |

@salarx @Polycell @Milennin Thanks guys, I don't play mobile games very much so your advice really helped. One more question. I see most of you push the idea of taking advantage of events. Is it favored to play the event stages again and again even tho I aced them all with 3 stars in Normal Mode? (Challenge Mode sounds hard so I don't dare to touch it yet) And I still don't have Isuzu Ren ;( |

Playing events reward you more, where you can get special items required to awaken your girl. |
