so is the Japanese government aware of the existence of Yui? why they need to create an AI base on human soul like Alice when Yui is human like already especially cognitively and emotionally anyway like they can make a copy of her (since you know computers can easily copy stuff) and make that their military AI?

In my opinion Yui is too immature as AI, her data were sure used for Alice because Yui was part of Cardinal system which is part of The Seed. But, Yui has at her base a machine learning algorithm, so she can became like Alice but she’s not good for a massive production because they need a process to fllow to obtain them, ok to get one but the scope is to obtain a lot of AI like Alice that is more reasonable for military scopes.

Top-down, bottom-up argument in a nutshell, really.

I just don't see how the whole "super AI" thing is a good idea. Obviously, these guys never saw Terminator.

Anyway, I wouldn't know. Yui seems more orientated to hacking. What they want is an AI that can fight and kill. Maybe they are just different that way?

Many people misunderstood the objective of RATH project. They want an AI that can:

- fight
- kill
- but more important, follow its own moral rules and violate superior orders that it judge wrong.

Because that is a real human abillity.

In the LN they explain that it is important in a war cause prevents the damage that can be caused by a hack, for example, commanding a typical AI to kill its own conrades.

Yuna for example, she never will broke her command to protect people. If she could be tired some moment and starts to give psychologic pain in gamers just for fun, then she could be like Alice, lol.

No matter how much advanced and independent today's AI's appear to be, they still do everything based on how they are programmed. That means any AI including Yui will always take the exact same decision in a set situation no matter how many times that situation is repeated.

People of Rath want an AI that can truly replace humans in war. That means such an AI should be capable of independent thinking. War is highly unpredictable. The AI they want should be able to adapt to any situation just like humans while fighting the battles. That is basically the difference between a top-down and a bottom-up AI.

ye i remember this top down vs bottom up development of AI in past episodes but is Yui confirmed to be an inferior top down AI? i mean she acts like a normal human already that i bet she will pass the Turing Test one billion percent lol

- Haven't Watched the Current Series -

Hi Actually Yui can be "the" AI for the Japanese Government but the Catch is shown in Sword Art Online 2 (Around Episode 13-14 *Maybe even Earlier*)
Where she was explaining the Situation however there was a Brief moment where the Guy (Kikuoka Seijirou) asked if Yui liked to have a Position in the Japanese Government which she immediately decline the Offer

And do You want Yui to Become a Future Soldier?

Now If I recall the Reason Alice was Chose is Because they want to Make Future Soldiers from that World and yeah even though Alice is a (Human) "AI" she was only chosen to be a Soldier in the Real World

ok but you know Yui can just allow herself to be cloned or have a copy that will make the basis for military AI

Yui is cute. Alice is an annoying, stuck up b-word whose entire existece beams "I'm the scheiße", no girl you're just scheiße. Saber + Garbage = Her.

Yui is an A.I. that is a well-developed program, Alice is a bottom-down intelligence, grown up as human and perceiving the world as such. She is one dimension above Yui.

Yui vs Alice Light novels Spoiler :P

anyway, joke aside,

Yui is a self aware Top-down AI.

The Self awareness make cloning her a problem as it can cause problem of not being unique and end up breaking down or wanting to destroy the other one.

Also, The reason Yui is so human like, it's because she simply have a huuuuuuuuuuuuge amount of data sample to make her decisions from and act like humans.

That huge amount of data is actually her monitoring and analyzing the memory and emotions of 10000 players in Aincrad for 2 whole years.

You could say Aincrad and the Cardinal system, had a secret mission inside them that created human-like AI by all the data they analyzed from the players in it all living in aincrad like their 2nd life and reality.

this was hinted and shown many many time in the novels, sadly the anime only would not catch it easily.

But it will be more and more apparent later on as well, specially if we get a Progressive anime or a continuation after Alicization into Unital Ring Arc.

Anyway, back to the main topic
if Rath really want, they can copy yui and then remove parts of her personality to create some clones that are not really yui but still can grow to be similar human like AI.

heck, even ALO's Cardinal is able to create some very human like AI. ( Only ALO's Cardinal which is full version of Cardinal, The Seed version of Cardinal is not full version )

But the problem with having a huge number of solider... all using the same code is HUUUUUUUUUUUUGE.

for one, they will all end up having similar respond to similar situations, that mean their decision making pattern can be studied and guessed by the enemy and easily countered.

the 2nd reason would be that they can't react to unpredictable stuff if it's completely out of their database of decision making algorithms and in the middle of the war with signal jamming and other stuff, they can lose connection to their base and get isolated.

the last and most important one is....
Since they all would have the same algorithm, after a while the enemy can finally hack them, and hacking one, mean easily hacking all the others too over time, that mean the whole AI Solider system would be compromised.

but non of this is a problem for Bottom-up AI, as they don't work over some algorithm, they can't be hacked and can only be deceived, like a normal human, but as long as they are trained well and matured, they clearly won't be deceived and can fight like any other normal human solider.

And this is Rath's goal !

Plus, the fact that they can create veteran solider and generals, all of which with their own battle experience and their own unique decision making in a very short time and with a very low cost is a huuuuge pay off.

if you didn't get what I mean, I explain in a short example :

1. Create a new Modern UnderWorld with guns and countries.
3. Increase the UnderWorld Speed to 5000x and w8 ( 1 day = ~13 years in UW )
2. Let them grow and start a war between countries. similar to Final Load Testing they have in UW.
3. they will fight and the survivor of the army all will be veteran war general and soldiers with their own war experience.
4. Take them out and use them as Solider in real world.

See... Easy creation of war veterans without the use of any time or even any cost of training !!!!
