Cool, a journey to Shanghai. Not to mention, another legendary tool awaits them.

I hope Mao can control his anger better though. That looked like an ugly situation...

A little bit disappointed that Meili participation prevent this group from being all male, well she can have Mao. My ship is Lei En and Xie Lu anyway.

the five seats at beginning... I wonder if thats a reference of certain characters in the original manga..(hopefully they are following the story of original manga this time..) and Idont remember the night assault part..(it was never in both old anime and the original manga..lol) guess they changed the plot again..

There are other seven legendary utensils, and Mao is going on a journey with Shell, Leon, Shirou and Meili to find them before they fall into wrong hands. There was also a welcome recap, which served to remember us about Shou An, Sanche, and Fei. Can't wait to see how the journey goes! Wait, what? Just 12 episodes? What a bummer...

The explanation on the origin of the legendary utensils was a hogwash! I expected more to be frank.

The Cooking Underworld has started to make their move...and while Mao is learning about the secrets of the legendary utensils. @lihle808 unfortunately you're not gonna get a lot of this explanation, it's the same as how the manga is depicted.

Unfortunately for Mao, while his passion for cooking and taking down the Underworld, Leon and Shell were already on their way to knowing the full extent of the assault. With this fast-growing development of events, the 3 chefs (plus Shirou) set out on this long-distance dangerous journey to seek out the legendary utensils must be found immediately before the Underworld could get their hands on EVEN ONE.

The recap about Mao's journey from being head chef to super chef and facing Bei's divorced Shao An, comrade Sanche and rival Fei from the first 18 episodes is nice, though in this context I'd like the original of course due to nostalgia.

And finally, Shao An is revived from the Underworld to face Mao once again (though 12 episodes is underwhelming to tell anymore story, just wondering how the production would wrap this up), and with Fei appearing in Shanghai.

I loved the fight in the temple. That’s a change from the original.

But the biggest change, which also deviated from the manga/original anime was the capture of the underworld guy and that he didn’t stab himself with the legendary knife which then made it powerless. I guess this was done to censor that scene for new, younger viewers?

I don’t mind the brief flashback summary of the first part of the series since it wasn’t as exciting in my opinion.

Thanks for pointing this out. I didn’t even notice that the episode count on MAL was changed from “?” to “12”. That sucks. I was hoping this anime would eventually adapt more of the manga. Any chance for a second season??

Does anybody know who's that girl with Mao besides his mom in the recap? Mao's sister? Also where is she now?

Yes, that was Mao’s sister. She’s at their mother’s restaurant still. In the manga and original anime, she had more screen time and would go to visit Mao during his time training at Chouyu’s restaurant.

The original manga was bloodier i believe and the 97 anime already censored a bit, but here exclude a lot of the tension build up and hype. I don't think mao's one eye bro that wanted revenge against him will have that same impact. I do like the subtle changes and meili, but the excuse of making shirou the 4th chef was lame. In the original anime, he sneak out with meili.

Watch the original 2 episodes for context because the next arc require it. It feature mao's backstory and sister,

Nice recap part there, kinda wish they did it in the first episode but perhaps that wouldn't really fit compared to this episode now that Sanche and Shou An make an appearance.
