Should i start with the anime or the movie version?

I heard that the movie version is the "legendary" / more well known version
of the story but at the same time i heard that it also cuts down character development.
& also that the movie has better & more consistent animation.

Which one should i watch as a first time viewer?

The movie cuts a lot of the character development and story, it's best to watch it after the TV version.
