I think the first arc of Sword Art Online Alicization is the best season of SAO. Before I watch first season of Alicization I hate SAO, but to be honest I like this season. I want to know your opinion on this season and about the score.

Wow, is it really 7.67? I swear it was much higher a few months ago. It is indeed the best that has come out of SAO. I gave it a 8/10, which is a B so it’s pretty good. I’d be fine with it being in the 8.2 range, 7.67 seems a bit low imo.

Typical MAL problem, BOTS. And yes 8 score is imposibble for SAO in this site. With highest rated (scored 1) 1st place season 1, 2nd place 2nd season and while airing 1k is scoring 1. I think never.

Honestly, this is just a conspiracy theory. I really don't like Gintama and it give or take has the same amount of fan base as SAO. But will rarely have below an 8. It's SAO.

I'd roughly say, Anime around 7.6, have everything SAO has to offer w/o the production value. But probably a better main lead.

I don't really care about the scores either way but for the sake of accuracy... MAL scoring systems isn't exactly comparable across shows. SAO has 1.6m members, Gintama has 570k.

There's low correlation between popularity and score here, (Only times I'd say it's large is when there is a small base get data from.)

Attack on Titans / Boku no Hero. Both have huge fanbases similar to SAO and a similar amount of seasons/series. Not that Gintama's 570k is low in the first place, still pretty high. The reason I put a lot of value on it is because it's by audience not critics. It's why Rotten Tomatoes score is Meme'd all the times but then people reference the audience score after.

I don't hate Sword Art and I think the majority of season 1 was fantastic, But it honestly would've done well to get rid of Kirito. Understanding the game system and knowing the best grinding spots, to him being a extremely talented at anything remotely related to gaming is just jarring. I very much like Season 1 and the second half of season 2. Oriental scale was pretty fun too ttill the end.

It's just like this, if I were to rate SAO a 8-9 I'd be disrespecting similar shounen shows like Boku and Fate. Oriental Scale was nothing in comparison to heavens feel 2. Why would I say it deserves to be rated like it

I'm was a big fan of the first season of sao but I didn't like how the show is turning in a harem and how the writer keep on bringing more and more females character and show us the relationship between them and kirito and for this season i was like finally a Male protagonist we may have some other relationship development for maybe alice and eugeo but then he made him die 😡😡😡😡🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

This is simply the best season of SAO and a great series. I think a score around 8.4 is the right score, I think it could be higher than 8.4 but seeing the score on the site 8.4 could be the right score

Actually, popular animes like Sao don't really need the high ratings. We look for the ratings of shows we don't know about. But mainstream animes are so popular that every anime fan will give it a try to stay in touch with the popular trend. It's been only a year but still alicization already has almost 400k members inspite of being shitted on for so many years.
Considering the ratings, I gave it a 9/10 since it has improved so much. I would want the rating to be around 8 which I think, it will have when war of underworld ends. War of underworld is having a positive of ratings. It increased from 7.56 in ep 2 to 7.88 now.

No hater here. Truth be told this season is straight up boring. I don't know if its the source or direction, well direction could save even weak source so it's the direction.

I was really hyped when the season begun, first episode was the best thing in SAO since 1st season. But it's been just dragging on since then. 2nd cour being especially bad, I feel like I'm on a tour in a museum being dragged from one exhibition to the next without connecting with any of it. Another thing is I feel like it treats its viewers as children or idiots.

A lot of SAO fans have grown up and would appreciate more mature handling of characters, as they are still stiff planks of wood with either lawful good or chaotic evil alignment. The pig-orcs going from rape goblins to victims was especially poorly handled.

It is standard SAO quality but times have moved on, we expect more. 7.0 is fair, art is good, story could have potential, directing is meh.

I cannot say that I really enjoyed the previous two seasons so much. The first season started dramatically and the failed romance with the cooking girl Asuna kind of ruined it at some point. The second season was good in the beginning but at the end after Asuna got rescued, since we stopped to fear anything for the characters, it was like watching someone playing video game; really bland boring. With Ordinal Scale I felt that we finally came back to something slightly more dramatic and interesting. The few philosophical notes about memory were refreshing.

Alicization is probably the best season so far, because the stakes are really high and Asuna is not here for the most part. A really enjoyable season actually. So to answer your question, yes, I find that the score is really low (I would give it a 8 compared to 5-6 of S1 & S2 for me).

Hi! I'm not really a fan of this series from S1 but I liked the story. I also like the S2 because of Leafa. But I actually enjoy watching alternative version, the 'Gun Gale Online' more. I probably hated the series because it was turning into harem and I don't like Asuna, at all; until now.
But, I am curious.. will I be able to enjoy this anime if I start watching it?

Good morning/afternoon/evening. I also liked the idea of S1 very much but was kind of bored at some point. I also enjoyed the part where people actually risked their lives in S2 (Gun Gale Online), so I think that you can safely check this season, it really improves a lot from past seasons. You should also check the movie Ordinal Scale before (it is canon and the new AR equipment appears in Alicization). Even fans of SAO generally say that this is the best season so far from what I read here.

And concerning harem:

Cool. You replied to my message. :)
Thanks for the info, by the way.
I might give it a try but I'll probably watch it when the series finally end.

P.S. I've always thought it was Asuna, the one with golden hair glowing (lol) in the cover photo that's why I lost the interest to try and watch it. Hihi~

Your are very welcome! I did not think I would ever recommend SAO to anyone... Yes me too until I saw Alice as main below the poster. Be careful that Alicization is a 2-1-1 split season ("cour"...) ending next year.

It feels a bit odd to have a topic like this in the dicussion forum, people will rate a series based on how good they felt it was, this season of SAO is probably the most I've enjoyed watching it since the first part of S1.

I think where it's score is now seems pretty accurate SAO is most definitely one of the most popular series but it's never been the most quality.

SAO I had all its potential ruined with excess of drama, protagonist op and some forced harem.
SAO II keep the same thing unfortunately and increased them exponentially.
At this point I would ignore anything related to SAO but I was curious about Alicization since I read some positive comments about the light novel and I give it a try.
I was impressed that the author tried to make something a bit more mature, reducing the drama from the others seasons and even "nerfing" Kirito a bit although at the last episodes of the season the old and attractive god Kirito was there.
Well, for a show that I normally would give 4 or 5, 7 for alicization is fair enough.

I stopped watching around episode 18, couldnt get through it anymore. Picked it back up yesterday and finished this season.
Pretty big letdown to be honest.
I can't put my finger on it exactly, but most of the dialogue felt off, or cliche. And especially the last few episodes were really bad plotwise.
Cardinal randomly suiciding herself for no apparent reason, suddenly trusting Administrator to keep her word. Cardinal randomly decides to fight anyways, but then she is dying already.
The entire part where Eugeo turns into a sword... where he gets cut in half, but then suddenly is still alive, TWICE, and then still ends up dying. That administrator ending?

I will just keep ranting if I continue, but the story was just lackluster to the point of terrible. Might be a LN conversion to anime thing that went wrong, but all the other SaO's were of better quality.
Only reason I am still considering giving it between a 7 and an 8 is due to the first half of the season and the fact that the anime looks friggin gorgeous.

Well i think its indeed one of the best things that came out of the SAO universe but it still is not a good show :). Episode 5 was the funniest SAO episode of all time but just cause its so garbage.

This Season is a 3/10 for me.

It looks good
The story is slightly lacking here and there, but showing us what happens in the real world and the GGO battle at the begining fix those small problems.
The backstories are informative and interesting

I think it deserves 8/10.

It's definitely the best SAO so far for me too. Good to see the author constantly improving although I'm curious if this will be the peak of the series.

For one thing, I wanna say that the existence of Eugeo was a great idea considering our MC Kirito-kun is a gary stu as we know. But this by giving him an "apprentice" and friend that also shares some of the glory and puts the stu in the mentor position at times works pretty well I'd say.

That and many the stories of the 3 main actors here, the two above an Alice are probably one some of the best in SAO so far.

I like it, more than the first season. I read the novel and it looks awesome.

Sadly, idk what went wrong, maybe cuz they stretched the episode too much or they cut some emotional moment that made it feels so much alive?
Or because the final boss naked? Nah.

The art honestly looks beautiful tho (if only those undesired scenes get cut instead..)

Either way, it can be better but it's good enough I guess

I think alicization is the best arc in sao series. Alicization arc take setting in kingdom that's makes the plot more interesting.
The friendship of Kirito, Eugeo, and Alice.
And because there is Alice Synthesis Thirty make the sao have to watch.

It's the best season after season 1. It's also really entertaining because of the new characters and story. I don't know why it's rated so low maybe of the bots but still it's a great season.
