Somehow, this got even better in the second episode. Most stories tend to lose some quality in the second episode or chapter.

I don't like the word 'gay' being used as an insult, but I am glad they didn't accurately translate the Japanese word that had been used. I absolutely hate that word!

Touma is quite a supportive friend. Still, the way people react to him makes me want to know more about him.

Maki immediately knew Yuuta liked Touma, and even supported him. My love and respect for Maki and this anime just increased by quite a bit.

Maki totally controlled everything at once. I love the way he argued without losing his calmness even for a moment.

I am really conflicted about the ed. I really don't like characters dancing in the credits of animes that aren't comedies as it feels like the anime has nothing to say. However, the dance was so adorable here!!

I liked how Katsuragi told those guys off, they kinda deserved it.

I hope they'll take things seriously from now on.

I was pretty intrigued with last week's episode and this one was a nice follow up. However, I need to bring up a couple gripes I have and just so you know I'm not trying to be rude here.

1. What exactly is the point in having a potentially gay character or the gay undertones? I don't disagree with the bullying or the "Love whoever you wish" statement, maybe Yuuta just comes off that way because he's a really nice person, but again what exactly is the point of it and why should I care? If you're going to have something like this in your story give me a reason to actually care instead of just bringing it up for the sake of it.

2. What exactly is Mitsue's issue? She strikes me as one of those people who's so bored in their life and only lives for the moment, like her expecting a fight to break between the boys towards only to be really disappointed and complaining about it. I'm also curious on why she has a book/poster of Che Guevara in her room. I don't know, but I got a feeling I'm going to get really annoyed with this character.

Anyway, looking to next week!
"You talk too much. Think too much."
"I don't care how justified you think your reasons are. I won't tolerate liars or thieves."
"If you're not going to be nice to me, don't expect me to be nice to you."
"I'm a soldier, not a superhero. Don't ever think of me as one."
"The world doesn't revolve around you. Get that through your thick skull."
"People who live by their emotions go nowhere in their lives. They only find misery.
"If you don't like the way your life is than do something about it instead of sitting there feeling sorry for yourself."
"You want something go get it. Period."

And, even more, no one cared? I was expecting a gay joke or something. But I'll feel bad for the manager if they actually become a couple.

It was indeed pretty jarring going from "Realistic depiction of homophobia in a school environment" to "awww, cute boys holding hands in front of everyone."
how's it jarring? There was a long scene between them to act as a buffer. The handholding wasn't even a big deal in-universe.

The show established the school as a somewhat realistic environment were people who are different get bullied (The girl also gets bullied for being perceived creepy and gloomy), Yuta gets bullied because he's perceived as the "shy, sensitive gay guy", so they obviously acknowledge homosexuality as a thing in-universe and understand kids can be massive dicks. But then you have the two protagonists pull the gayest gesture ever in the middle of the day (inb4 "that's totally normal", I was expecting them to high five each other), and no one bats an eye.

So far, this anime is absolutely awesome. As much as I don't mind, indeed often even love, stereotypical pretty anime boys and their silly shenanigans - this looks and feels a lot more natural overall, and it's very refreshing and nice. The way they talk and act is, for the most part, completely spot on. And Maki being completely "whatever, it's fine" about Yuuta liking Touma (and then promptly recruiting the guy to the club) is just hilarious in all the good heartwarming ways, whether it turns out to be a thing or not. (The first episode already had a few moments that felt like they were straight out of a BL, tbh.) Can't wait to see more of these guys!

I have a feeling this anime would quickly become my anime of the season if the standard keeps up like the first 2 episodes.

First of all the animation from both episodes are really spot on, and as a sport anime, the action part is what matters the most, and this anime doesn't disappoint in that category at all. Every characters, even the side casts are very dynamic in terms of movement.

Secondly , the characters.
I love how distinctive each characters are, be it their personality and attitudes.
Maki , the mc clearly is the most interesting one because he's constantly hiding something, bearing all the pain by himself while acting all confident in front of others.
The design of all the characters are to my liking too, love the cute art-style of this serie despite having a very mature/ darker theme.
Totally looking for all the boys' interactions, and Maki being the Catalyst to push those lazy bums into seriousness.

Lastly, those OSTs
The OST in the middle of the episode is soo good.
The ED is sooo good too with such lively and interesting animation!
Rare to see an anime put effort into ED nowadays.

Also I have a feeling this series will incorporate some degree of light BL in it, and the characters might even confess to each other. Looking forward to that type of sub plot too because it'd be even more interesting.

Also let's not forget all the family issues both mcs are facing right now, those would probably be major plot point in future episodes.

Can't wait to see how future episodes will go. Totally on board with this train.

Like father like son. Maki, the protagonist, has twisted and nasty personality. It seems he takes every means available to achieve tennis match victory. Understanding toward LGBT? No, he doesn't have any interest in the others and made use of it for his purpose.

As for Toma, the captain of the tennis club, seems to have nice personality. But looking from the attitudes of those students at the beginning of this episode and his mother in the previous episode, he might have had some sudden bad temper and made an incident before.

As for the geek girl living near Maki, in spite of certain possession time of the show, it's hard to guess her role so far.

Holy shit, how did you get this type of conclusion?

Maki's money just got robbed by his dad and he didn't want his mom to know because she'd get even more worried/ depressed.

He needed those money more than ever, so he uses himself as a catalyst to motivate the team to perform better. He's a practitioners who act to achieve his goal instead of just dreaming that the win would just fall from sky while he staying idle.

I don't see anything inappropriate about it, alot of export sport trainers use this type of strategy to motivate their members. Maki has to be the bad guy for the team to improve because their coach suck ass and way too laid back.
What's wrong with wanting your team to win? If they keep up their attitude like ep1 they'd never win.

Another really good episode, there's so much going on. First the domestic violence, and I really hope Maki and his mother can stay safe from that man, but it seems he didn't told her that he knows about their new home, and that he hit him again to steal their money. Then there were those homophobic losers, cowardly ganging up to bully Yuuta, but Shinjou, the one he apparently likes, helped him. And it's interesting that two of those losers knew that Shinjou can snap or something, but I don't want to believe he was able to hurt his mother, and that's why she is afraid of him, that would be really sad.

Mitsue is an artist, but she seems to judge people too much, like the people praising her art, and the boys of the soft tennis team. She seems to be ostracized in class too. Talking about the team, some of them were annoying, but I love how even those who were acting condescending had to run the 20 laps too. And the sport side of things wasn't left aside. Shinjou taught the basics to Maki, and in turn to the others, really well. I love that Maki welcomed Yuuta into the team, and didn't judge his feelings too. He was kind harsh with the rest of team, but at least it motivated them, and they needed that wake-up call. I think I love the ED with all that dancing too. xD

Well, I am curious about the girl. I'm just concerned about the story shifting its attention away from the real story(Maki, Toma, and the team) and instead focusing entirely on the whole gay thing while trying to push some kind social agenda BS. Honestly I don't care if Yuuta is gay or not. Most of the time things like that serves no purpose to the overall story and are just put there because reasons.
"You talk too much. Think too much."
"I don't care how justified you think your reasons are. I won't tolerate liars or thieves."
"If you're not going to be nice to me, don't expect me to be nice to you."

LOL I didn't realize her poster, but i don't get her atitude aswell, she was cool in the first episode and now she is like "what ever fuck yall"

And about the gay kid i think we might get some background for him because we are only 2 episodes in, but if we don't you shouldn't get annoyed by that, after all gay people exist, and there is no need to came up with a backstory for him just because he is put as a gay person in the show.

Well, if he's gay fine. I got no problems with that. I'm sure he has his reasons. It's just that writers(and sometimes the producers themselves) that include these things have a bad habit of shifting the entire focus onto these things and forgetting what the story was originally about, which in the end does more harm than good.

Fluid and non-static animation, down to Earth tone, gay/bi guy who isn't a stereotype and punchline, behind the scenes drama to add a little complexity to the story...I'm really liking this so far! I was going to dislike MC for what he said to the team because they're all cute and need to be protected but they definitely needed that reality check. I agree with what someone said about MC being refreshing because he's not the overly enthusiastic new guy who's super nice and optimistic. It's going to take some development to get me to like him like him though.

As with every show with a strong start animation-wise, let's hope they can keep it up.

I love the body positivity, anti-bullying and queer acceptance stances without being too ''SJW'' about it. Also Maki wearing the girls cap because he likes it points towards gender stereotypes issues.

I'll be really excited if the writers handle this gay kid without giving him a tragic ending or a romance. There's such a shortage of queer characters who are allowed to thrive outside of the romance genre. Just have it be a sweet one-sided crush like you usually see between the athletes and the female manager in sports anime.

Personally I have no issue with adding in the homosexual parts. It isn't deterring from the show. If it was a female character, I don't think anyone would be talking about it.

The holding hands in the middle of the field is a bit weird tbh, considering the main two aren't exactly best friends. One thing that throws me off with this anime is how bipolar Maki is with Toma. Agreeing to help him for this team despite being really emo/reluctant about it. If they were really friends, he would have been more honest about it. But ah, it is an original anime so I can't expect too much.

Same. I feel like family drama is the biggest thing bringing it down and same with the black hair girl. She's a nuisance. I wish she was more like a normal girl and would just support our MCs from afar.

Cool, I'm liking this so far.

Our main characters seem to be having a lot going on in their houses but they are pretty cool with it and I find that admirable. 20 laps from the get-go though, no wonder why he's able to run up and down the stairs so hastily like that.

Damn, that ED though, got to try to master that by the end of the season.
