Oh for fuck's sake another new studio. I guess it makes sense Mamoru Oshii is working on this since he worked on Blood+ in the past, which was also a Production I.G show.

It's been forever since Oshii has done something, so I was actually excited to see this. His new work being a slapstick comedy series revolving around school friends is very unexpected to say the least. I'm open to it though.

Girl meets girl? It's a romance then?

The protagonist looks really cute

Urusei Yatsura is so underrated in the west, and the reason it's so great IMO is because of Mamoro Oshi's unique touch. Really excited to see him do comedy again and how he's changed over the 30+ years.
Shoot first, think never.

@Open-Dice It still owes a lot to Takahashi, the manga is already pretty fun.

You had me at vampire.

The artwork reminds me of Jun Mochizuki's character designs a lot. I'm diggin' it.

No handsome men
Girl meets girl theme
Sounds good but it sucks that we're gonna have to wait until spring 2020 that's so far away

Is handsome men really a prerequisite though lol. I like it too but I can watch something without it.

I usually make fun of Oshii, but hell at least the guy is willing to have some fun. I guess after killing Patlabor he felt like doing some comedy again in his old age.

no handsome men
Ha, he knows the audience he doesn't want to attract.

I would prefer an anime with no beautiful women. To me, this will be inovator, in fact.

If Patlabor is anything to go by, his comedic touch can certainly be trusted. Really nice to see another industry veteran still active.

Considering that he used the word "ikemen" and not just "boys / males", it was a hint that the show was supposed to be a male-focused fanservice, and not something like Free or Banana Fish. But, given the "look" often encountered among the yuri community on male characters, I can only speculate about all the nuances of his words. However, the stated theme makes it obvious that it will be yuri or at least yuri bait.

I'm excited for Oshii -- that he's actually making anime. Can't say that I'm a fan of his in particular, though I did enjoy The Sky Crawlers way back when. This new thing just isn't my cup of tea, unfortunately.

I don't think just because he said there won't be handsome men it'll be fanservice, but I can't say it won't be fanservice either.

He did say the plot would be a serious take on girl meets girl, so although it's a comedy I hope we'll have some serious themes.

Honestly I'm keeping my expectations low, I've watched a few eps of UY and I enjoyed the show, but I'm just a fan of his more serious sci-fi shit like GitS and Jin-Roh. I feel like Patlabor was happy medium between sci-fi geo-politics and goofy slice of life. To be fair though sometimes you just get straight up pretentious shit like GitS 2 or Avalon.

I'm not really a fan of this genre myself. That being said, since I am a fan of oshii, I am looking forward to this anime and seeing how he conceives it.
