yep.... what a shame. Was hoping I could forget about it sooner rather than later. I don't hate it but it's been a pretty big let down so far

Well, if that allows us to have a better second part, this can't be a bad decision.

Good, once this cour finishes I'll be done with this trainwreck.
No tomo malas decisiones, solo me gusta apoyar causas perdidas.
Disfruté Mayoiga, Ou-sama Game, Evil or Live, Mirai Nikki, Big Order, Arifureta, Ex-Arm, Tesla Note, Shuumatsu no Harem y Platinum End
nope les falle con esa, lo siento pero todos tenemos nuestros límites.
Así de jodido es mi gusto en anime, ¡Y estoy pinche orgulloso de ello!

So why does this still have 24 episodes if it's split cour? Are the MAL mods asleep at the wheel again?

Maybe they could change the staff and produce something with a better direction, even. In this case, a split season would not hurt the series. It can't be hurt any further.

They do not do proper work around the whole site, only the most popular series are actually moderated. Look at the character screen, only one character has an image. How many have even the most basic description? MAL staff does not even relatively care, and does not allow users to fill the database themselves, forever leaving some of the entries incomplete.

ok i might be a little out of the loop, but why is it official to call anime that lasts 2 seasons "split cour" and the individual seasons as "first cour" and "second cour"? Aren't they officially called 1st and 2nd season? I've never even heard the word "cour" before a few months ago, and I've been watching anime since 2013.

When series simply takes one cour break it's called 'split cour'.

Initial episode 1 hate circle jerk is still lingering. Personally I think it's one of the better shows this season and only getting better.

Also, I have a more critical view of scoring and almost nothing I have given above 8, a 6 is actually a decent score from me, if it impresses me by the end I bump it to a 7.

Mods have been asleep for few seasons, look how many shows have incomplete cast lists, several series lack any pictures in character profiles.

Actually it's a pretty bad decision.

If no-one cares about a series in its first cour, even less will care in 2nd cour split.
This is literally a dead sentence.
Not like I miss anything, I don't have the interest to really watch this show on a weekly base anyway .

how do we get the episode count for season 1 to reflect that?

That's my opinion right down :

If they had decided to keep the current cour, they would have lost more & more viewers (the numbers tend to confirm it actually happens). By the end, even if - let's say - the 12 last episodes became better, they would not attract new viewers. At the best, an upgrade of the quality would make the former viewers (who dropped the show) coming back to see if it's really better. And of course if Fairy Gone still decreases in quality & enjoyment, the only remaiming viewers will be those who started the show in April.

This is now my very personal hypothesis : by splitting the cour, they'll let a 3 months term for the show to be forgotten. In September / October, some who did not watch the current season would notice that a second season will shortly begin to air. Animated by a certain curiosity, they might take a look and PERHAPS appreciate the season 1, making the "fanbase" being a bit bigger than it was. And if they don't like the S1, they ain't gonna watch the S2 obviously.

Also, those who did not really like the show but did not drop it, might accept to give a second chance. And if it became better, they would not regret their decision.

At the very end, I don't think Fairy Gone will end up being that much better but it is all a question of fanbase. As you already know, it happens that some seasons or movies are worse or better than their prequel / sequel. This split-cour could give it a fresh air and making the current viewers forgetting how they disliked it (I already happened to like something I first disliked months or years ago, so why not).

I think splitting the series up into two cours is both good and bad idea honestly. The last few episodes have been exponentially better than the rest of the series and they could potentially kill what little they have going for them right now by splitting the season up. This also allows them to potentially rewrite the series a bit and cut down on the gratuitous use of flashbacks and all the info dumps that are present in the show.

Well let's be honest I won't care if it is split or not either way. When I continue viewing it, it will be with the same attitude I will have by the first part's finale. It could be the split season will be used to refine a myriad of rough corners this series have, which then, naturally, will improve overall quality and my attitude as well. It is all up to them what they are going to present the world with.
