Terrible, contrived, unimaginative, & derelict of substance. Much of the narrative enjoyment from series prior to Zoku Owarimonogatari came from an element of mystery or grand character revelations through the lens of Koyomi Araragi, whose adventures into the supernatural were ever-expanding; as well as his understanding of the peculiarities of those around him. This supplemental addition, “on letting go,” was weak, repetative, & lacked the finesse that the prior seasons didーleaving an ugly amalgum of overused exposition & gaudy fanservice.

The best part, for me, was the 2-3 second reference to Urusei Yatsura that was madeーbut other than that, I felt as if I wasted hours of my life on an amateur arthouse production.

After Monogatari: Second Season, the franchise should have ended while it was ahead. Does anyone else feel the same way?

I don't feel the same way at all. I still love and enjoy The Monogatari Series,
and I can say that it continues and is still continuing with Araragi getting older.

Currently 10 volumes after Zoku Owarimonogatari.
But I don't really read the novels. I just informed myself a little from wikipedia.

I hope they adapt the side stories, the other light novels when Araragi becomes
But for the main story I’m pretty satisfied.

Sigh, fucking spoiler.

I knew some relating to that but fuck... Hopefully I forget them again after a year or so.
Could you add a spoiler tag at least, please...

I've only read Kizumonogatari and a few chapters myself.

Idk why people are so angry about spoilers. I guess some people are affected more? Had the endings of many things ruined but the journey to it is what made it great like the old saying goes "It's not about the destination it's the journey that led to that conclusion"

I thought Zoku Owari was a beautiful way to wrap up Koyomi's story. Also this really isn't the end of the franchise, Shaft plans on adapting all of the books from what I've heard.

Since I wasn’t a fan of the latest release, I might not watch them but I always am tempted to because of my admiration for Tsubasa & Tsukihi. In my opinion, SHAFT’s works in the last few years have been too over-the-top with eccentric editing, it makes it harder for me to focus on the characters themselves & since Araragi & Senjougahara are more seriousーit irks me to see him gawking at other girls. (haha)

The series is most likely not going to end here I enjoy it it's one of my favorite anime ever made from just the characters alone but with how much monogatari is planned and with how its still relatively popular I'd say that monogatari will be around for a while

While I don't agree with the opinion on the show itself, I do agree that this would be the perfect stopping point. After an ending like that, the existence of anything afterwards would feel kind of strenuous, even if I'd watch it anyway. I'm perfectly content with the anime just stopping here on a high note (well, at least I think it's a high note).

well I saw the other series and were pretty good. Koyomi monogatari was so so but this one is terrible. I'd like to see it as an isolated failure

Wasn't Bakemonogatari one of the most over-the top in the editing?

"SORT" OF A REVIEW :-P
WARNING SPOILER TALK INCLUDED. NOT RECOMMENDED TO PEOPLE WHO HAVEN'T WATCHED THE SERIES.

I agree with the people who think that it should have ended "while it was ahead", i myself watched the entire series just becuz i totally fell in love with the characters and the weirdness. I followed the chronological order rather than the aired as that is the only way it made any sense to me. The time when this entire series was "ahead" was according to me by the end of Owarimonogatari s2.

Zoku Owarimonogatari is more like a side story than canon, it does allow some better understanding of the relationship between ougi and koyomi, and it does show us some new "elements" here and there...but the series kinda started dying out for me by then... Hanamonogatari and Koyomimonogatari were last in the chrono order, but they basically feel like fillers. The excitement and anticipation which i felt while watching the prev seasons was gone. It took me quite a while (almost a week) to finish the last two (Hana & koyomi). Whereas i finished the prev seasons within a week. This just goes to show how much the excitement dropped.

Moreover the series as a whole, is not perfect, it has its loopholes and unanswered questions, which people who have watched attentively would have caught hold off. Its been such a long and complicated series that i myself have forgotten some of em. I couldn't digest Some of the explanations given. Like for example why koyomi concludes that he is not in love with tsubasa when he is totally infatuated with her just a few eps prior, i get it, its difficult to fall in love with a girl having a split personality which can come out and kill you anytime. But. When Oshino suggests koyomi to marry her and give her the family she has never had, i was so happy! But by then i guess he is made to fall out of love for her. Some other things of this sort.

Alltogether, amazing series. Loved the characters. Enjoyed watching it. No regrets. Though it was a pain in the butt to pause and read all that unspoken dialogue which randomly shows up in many of the seasons,i would say, i kinda liked it becuz it asks u to put in some effort if u want to understand the series better. No other anime i have seen up until now asked so.

If u plan on watching it, go right ahead. I would obviously recommend the chrono order as it makes a whole lot of sense and makes this series a whole lot easier to understand than the aired order.

I don't think this is the right time to stop the series. This movie feels like a filler, they can't just end it with a filler-like movie. But the movie is still enjoyable and totally new.

Many people will disagree then agree

After this there is :

Orokamonogatari

Wazamonogatari

Nademonogatari

Musubimonogatari

Shinobumonogatari

Yoimonogatari

Amarimonogatari

Ōgimonogatari

Shinomonogatari vol 1 & 2

As people can see the series is hardly over . But knowing this series they are at different points in time

This may be a right stop to the series, but we still have Off Season and Monster Season in the LN, so getting adaptations of those 2 Seasons would be ok to me.
