Well, you can always read the books... you just have to learn Japanese first. Or convince Seven Seas to continue translating the books. I am not sure which is harder.

Given how anime production these days are financed, there's a near-zero percent chance they will produce a second season.

Anime these days are first and foremost made to promote some other media (in this case, the LN and soon to be released Manga adaptations).

Plus, this was originally planned to be a 2-cour series (likely covering all of the LN 1-6), but they had to cut out at least 3+ episodes. How do I know that? Well, if you look at the publicly available PV1 (https://youtu.be/ReGOM4liVPs), there are scenes which simply did not appear in the final anime, and should be clear from the context that it's part of a completely different story arc (the battle between a telekinetic and a fire mage, starting at 0:36 mark).

So, yeah, we might have originally received a 2-cour adaptation, but due to whatever reason, an entire arc (or two) were cut, and we're left with our disjointed 18-episode blue-ball mess with no clear closure for any of the characters involved.

But I agree: NEED MOAR NAGI!!!!!!!


I hope I can find the raws for the novels that are not yet translated by Seven Seas, as I would love to have a crack at doing a fan-translation of the series, now that I'm completely hooked after watching the 2019 anime adaptation!


I respect your opinion, but it's really a matter of taste. I felt that the editing, soundtrack and the storytelling technique as a whole package was a uniquely compelling experience. I think the closest example of a similar storytelling technique would be Bakemonogatari, which I also enjoyed immensely.

I also thought Boogiepop was voice acted brilliantly (and that oh-so-smug smirk was just a fantastic touch by the animators!), and there were some "oh shit..." moments ()

At the end of the day, this anime isn't for everyone, and certainly the initial 3 episode slog was likely a turnoff for many.

Still, even extremely popular manga series like Naruto are merely breaking even overseas. The large bulk of the profit is from domestic consumption.

Take Spice & Wolf as an example. The light novels did not initially receive an English adaptation, and it was due to fans that had already translated most of the LN that then helped to build up a large enough fanbase to convince Yen Press to license and translate the entire series "officially".

On the flip side... I just found the raws for novels 7 through 18. I'll take a crack at translating starting at Novel 7. Still, I'm supporting the English series and have ordered both of the omnibus editions for volumes 1 - 6 in English. Fingers crossed that we see more official translations (but I highly doubt it. Given the MAL score for this anime series, it seems like it largely missed the audience).
