Dining Hall
All you can eat for free!

Welcome to the Dining Hall, the only place where you can satisfy your hunger
without need to pay a single cent! Naturally, in order to ensure satisfaction of
all residents, the selection is quite broad, offering menus for meat-lovers and
vegetarians as well as those with special preferences. Trained quality cooks are
hired to provide the most exquisite meals to suit any tongue.

The Dining Hall is also the only place where residents from all four main dormitories
might meet each other. Please do not forget to conduct yourself respectfully
to your seniors and juniors and never forget the basic etiquettes on the table.

IC Note: Due to the nature of the Dining Hall, you may control NPCs whenever you see fit.

Sho walked away from the dormitory entrance, now being closer to the entrance to the Dining Hall. He had managed to at least catch his breath from the fight with Londo by now, which had been really tiring. As dumb as he was sometimes, he was ridiculously strong. It was hard to believe he could survive almost two dozen slashes when two of the 'Rats' had died even when he held back and didn't slash. I shouldn't have aimed for the head... The guilt of it still bothered him now, since it seemed like he could have taken them down without lethal force, especially since three of them had survived while the other two he hit didn't. It also didn't help that he'd never had to kill anyone until now.

Just as he was thinking about that, Lysett showed up, asking him how the mission went, saying it must have been easy with both him and Londo there. After a moment of hesitation he responded, deciding to leave out some things. "Y-yeah, it wasn't that hard...We just had to search for some clues, find out where the kids were taken to by some gang in the sewers, and then we went there and freed them. We couldn't find their real boss, but we saved all of the kids." He wished they could have resolved it completely, but they didn't have any way of knowing where the guy with the flute was right now. It'd probably be another mission later...

Lysett's wearing Charisma's hat

While talking about Sho's latest mission, Lysett followed him near the entrance of the Dining Hall. Lysett noticed Sho's tone sounded just a slight bit off as he shared the details of his mission, but shrugged it off as her imagination and replied normally, although she seemed especially bitter about that type of crime in particular...

"Oh, so you dealt with some kidnappers? That's simply horrible, don't you think?... I can't imagine how they can bear doing such an awful thing as taking kids away from their parents... In any case, I'm glad you managed to bring all the kids back safely! Good job out there, Sho!"

It seemed like she had bad experiences with that before, although she didn't seem eager to share anything about it for now. Instead, her focus shifted to the building besides them: it was a happy coincidence that they ended up there in the end, just like she planned to before bumping into Sho outside the Sparring Hall. Pointing to the entrance, she called out to Sho and invited him while approaching the door.

"Do you feel hungry, Sho? I surely feel like getting something to eat, if you don't mind; all that sparring from before left me quite hungry."

Lysett was more bothered than he expected with how she reacted to what he said about the kidnapping mission. Instead of her usual happy self it looked like she was actually angry for once...but she went back to normal after that, telling him he did a good job. "Thanks, but I didn't do that much...Victorique did most of the detective work, haha!" He was still surprised he'd gotten as much rewards as he had, but he wouldn't complain about it.

Then Lysett changed the subject, not saying any more about the kidnapping mission. It didn't seem like she had anything else to say despite how she sounded earlier. Instead now that they were near the dining hall, she wanted to go get something to eat and asked if he was hungry.

"Yeah, I think that fighting tired me out too...Let's go get something to eat."

So he would go along with Lysett, heading into the actual dining hall itself. After waiting in line to get a meal which I'm too lazy to describe, he'd find an empty table for them to sit at. Then once Lysett sat down he'd talk to her, changing the subject since it didn't seem like she wanted to ask more about the mission (and he didn't feel like talking about it either).

"So, what have you been up to?"

Lysett's wearing Charisma's hat

It took a few moments for Lysett to remember about Victorique whom Sho mentioned, as she had barely interacted with the girl. Then, the girl's rather unique appearence, which had left quite an impression on Lysett, sprang back to mind. "Victorique?... Ah! She's the one that looks just like a doll, right? She's so cute! I mean, not as much as Amice, but still!"

Lysett nodded back to Sho's reply, glad that she got some company to share a meal with. She waited in line for a short moment before getting herself a plate of food and following Sho to an empty table, where the two ate whilst talking about her day.

"Hmmm, not much, I guess. I got myself a long due bath after all that happened yesterday, and then I went to the library to check up on a few things, but I guess there wasn't much to be found in the end..." She made a pause at this point before continuing, making a mental note to talk about that with Sho after they moved somewhere with less people around. Instead, she slightly changed the topic to the slip up she made during her stay at the library. "Oh, that reminds me that I owe Valencia some proper apologies... I found a book about her past earlier, and I sort of let my curiosity get the best of me as I ended up reading it... It felt like a huge invasion of privacy, and feel bad about doing that..."

"Oh, Amice messaged me as well! She said she went through a scary mission, but ended up getting stronger and able to summon more of her pixie friends. Lucia is helping her out as well, so I'm sure she'll turn out to be a great support!"

After they sat down at an empty table, Lysett told him about her day. Not much had happened, other than her taking a bath and checking something in the library. In there she found out a book about someone named Valencia, a name he didn't really remember, and she felt bad about learning so much like it was a breach of privacy. She must have been famous to have a book all about her... He couldn't quite remember hearing of any historical figures named Valencia at the moment though.

Lysett also mentioned how she got a message from the adorable halfling Amice who said she'd been on some 'scary mission' but had learned how to summon more of her pixies and was now getting some help from Lucia. "Lucia's that Divine healer, right? I'm sure Amice could learn a lot then, since Divines are supposed to be pretty good at healing!" It was a bit of a stereotype but not totally inaccurate. Compared to other races they tended to have more people with light magic, or healing, or both at once sometimes, and some of them were good at conserving their energy to keep healing people.

"Don't worry about reading that book, though...If there's a book about her, she must be pretty famous, so a lot of people might know about her already."

He didn't think people needed to feel bad for knowing about famous people, if it was enough for their story to be common knowledge.

The Harbinger strolled into the Dining Hall, he was hungry, not to mention thirsty. He was actually more thirsty than anything. He craved a glass of rum. He made his way over to a table by himself and sat down by himself. He waved over a waitress and the woman came over.

"Rum and whatever food you suggest," he said. The waitress took his order and walked out into the kitchen, bringing out with her a glass of rum. She let him know that his food was coming soon. He nodded and waved her away. She frowned at him but left him in peace.

He pulled off his hood and took off his cloak, revealing the simple black tunic beneath. He also removed his gloves and his half-mask. He tied his grey hair up into a ponytail and looked at his hands. They were still rotted, the skin was black and lumpy, like that of a corpse which had been left on the battlefield. His exposed arms were exactly the same.

The half of his face that was usually covered by the half-mask was even worse, however. The skin was pulled tight over the bone, giving it a haunting gaunt appearance. The skin was black and maggots visibly wiggled in a hole in his jaw. He had no lip on this side of his face, his teeth exposed as a result. His eye was deep-set and glowed crimson, red veins grew out from around it, forming a sort of red splash of colour on the otherwise black and bleak skin. His eyebrow simply didn't exist, skin stretched tight where it should have been.

He picked up his glass and took a sip. "At least the rum is good here..." he thought, appreciating the strength of the beverage. He sipped from it continuously while he waited for his food.

The Harbinger ate his food when the waitress came. When she had seen his skin for the first time her eyes widened and she was very quick about serving him. Leaving him in peace - thank god. He drained his cup of the rum and finish the steak with mashed potatoes that the waitress had given him. The food was of decent quality as well, but that wasn't enough to distract him from the fact that he still didn't trust Astraea.

He brooded silently, thinking over the courses of action he could take. What would happen if he just went AWAL and left? Desummoning? He didn't particularly care if was desummoned or not, this world was an unnatural afterlife after all. If he just left he would be free to make his own destiny, and SOULs were more powerful than normal mortals anyhow, perhaps this was the path he should take?

He thought about it more, thinking of the benefits of simply leaving. He could go anywhere, do anything, become anyone. A fresh start. He grinned sadistically, he liked that idea very much. He decided that leaving Astraea was something he would have to risk regardless of the consequences. He was a free man and valued his freedom immensely. He nodded to himself and picked up his half-mask, putting it back on. He then put his gloves back on and lifted his hood up over his head. Satisfied that he was completely covered, he got up and left the Dining Hall and Astraea.

After dropping Amice off somewhere, don't ask me where I don't know either, Valencia had decided to make her way towards the Dining Hall. Some food might do her good, even though she hadn't really earned it. As she went to check what was available, she'd go with the classical stacking of insane amounts of food, she decided to stick with a simple salad. She wasn't sure why it was called after a Roman Emperor that had gotten himself stabbed to death, but it seemed like it'd taste great.

She decided to pick a table somewhere near the window, so she could look outside. There was much to think about, and Valencia was one to overthink in general. That said, for some reason she just couldn't shake off the feeling that her entire summoning was a let-down. From the get-go, she felt like all she had done had ended up being underwhelming. Making matters worse, she truly missed her old friends and allies, and it was difficult to make new ones. After all, she had formed her bonds through years of hard work, slowly learning to know and trust each-other, and slowly building up respect.

Meanwhile, time here seemed like it progressed ever so slowly, like each day dragged on for almost a year. It felt like building up real friendships would be even more difficult as a result. She almost wished that she could just be as innocent and naïve as Amice, but she wasn't. Thus, the lancer sat down in silence, silently consuming the corpse of a dead emperor her salad.

Jake walked into the Dining Hall after someone told me to post with him after getting back from his own mission. It had involved fire. Jake did not like that. At all. Fortunately, it was only an Amarok that had fire, but Jake still could feel the burning sensation that the Amarok's gaze had on him.

Jake got to the bar, seeing the menu, and groaned. A lot of it involved hot food, which was made using fire, and Jake didn't want anything to do with fire, not even food, so he decided to instead get some fruit and stacked it on his plate.

Turning away from the food counter, Jake could see that there were not many people in the area, just a solo, silver-haired beastkind sitting at a table, near the place where anime protagonists sat.

Jake slicked back his hair, and made his way over to her, sitting across from her and applying the charm that only a man could apply, "Sup? What's a tall, pretty girl doing sitting here all by yourself? Need some company?" He said, taking a bite of an apple.

Valencia's immediate instinct, upon watching the shirtless weirdo head over to her, was to say 'no thanks' even before he could speak up. However, she faintly recognized him from something... Rather than answering his question with 'exactly what it looks like' (after all, what would she do here, other than get something to eat?), she pondered over where she knew him from, until something sprang to mind. “Weren't you in the tournament?” That's probably what she knew him from, having seen him participate while she was in the watching the battles on the screens in the coliseum's lobby. Somehow, it felt like all of that was a lot longer ago than it had been, and her memory of it and my ability to read it back to check what was going on seemed to have gone missing.

Figuring that he must be a higher ranked SOUL, a little respect for her seniors, even though they looked rather debatable, might not be wasted. “I'm Valencia Ortiz, nice to meet you.” That's as much of an invitation to keep her company as he would get, as he did pique some of her interest, but not enough for her to enthusiastically welcome him.

The girl didn't exactly answer Jake's question that was more meant to break the ice, and instead answered with a question of her own, "Kinda rude to respond with a question of your own, ya know? I'm just trying to be friendly here." he said, scrunching his eyes, but shrugging and answering the question anyways, "Yea, I was in the tournament a few days ago, got eliminated in the first round against that uh... What was his name again? Manson? Anyways, the name's Jake Parker." He said, extending his hand to shake hers if she was willing.

Jake took another bite of his 'meal', glancing out the window, "Sooo... What's hot in your side of the rankings? I've never seen you in my dorm, so I assume you're a lower ranked SOUL. How was the fight against all the CS in the city back then? I don't have many lower-ranked friends so I haven't been able to ask."

Jake turned out to be as smooth as the average Eastern-European road, but Valencia decided to try to see through it. After all, that's part the entire 'calm and collected' thing she had going on. After shaking his hand, she listed to Jake's questions. It turned out he was even less smooth, nearing the Himalayan mountains, as talking about the weather would be more pleasant than his choice of topic. That said... “You're right, and it's been pretty awful. We've been able to prevent the worst of it, but I can't imagine how the city will be able to restore the lost trust towards its citizens, not after all of that. Our enemies made pretty clear that nothing is safe, nearly killing the prince, dropping Calamity Seeds through-out the city, showing up with an entire army... and all of that during a time of celebration, where security would've normally been at its peak. That reminds me, are the rumours that the prince's curse has been lifted true?” On her way back from the mines, Valencia had picked up on it, but she wasn't sure. I think it was said some special team got the orb off-screen and saved the prince with it. Having passed the talking stick back to Jake, she'd take the opportunity to continue her salad.

Jake shrugged in response to what Valencia said, avoiding the prince rumor for now, "I dunno about the trust thing. I'm sure some people are more willing to live in this city than in towns scattered across the country, after what I've seen happen to them. With what happened, I'm sure Astraea doubled their security at least..." Jake said, taking another bite of his apple.

Now came the part he avoided. How should he put this?... Jake glanced at the COMB on his wrist, then rolled his eyes, "Ah to hell with it. Yea the prince rumors are true. Yesterday they sent us A ranks to infiltrate them. We got the orb needed to lift the curse, and now the Prince is recuperating safe and sound back at the castle. I'm sure the cancelled Ball is going to continue with a surprise announcement the Prince is better. If not, then the Ball will just be in celebration of him getting better. Actually, I'm thinking for sure it'll be the latter now." Jake said, taking another bite of his now-completed apple, and moving onto another piece of fruit.

"Anyways, I'm sure THAT celebration will be even more heavily guarded due to the lore probably not going to be including them anymore because it sucked ass. Astraea has gotten lax in its years, and this was just a reminder that they can't do that." He said, biting into a lemon, including the rind. It was sour, but still tasty, especially when you poured salt on it.

There was truth to what Jake claimed. Even if people didn't trust Astraea or the city guards, they didn't exactly have a good alternative. Valencia didn't exactly care about the ball, but hearing the mission to retrieve the orb had been a success did bring a bit of a smile to her lips. “Congratulations. That's great to hear, and I must admit I'm somewhat surprised that it actually managed to save him. I didn't think they were speaking the truth about it, only using it as bait.”

That said, when Jake mentioned Astraea getting lax, she was reminded about certain parts of Senza's claims. “That reminds me, did you know more about the things Eden was telling us? They claimed the world was dying due to wrong usage of mana. It pains me to have seen that someone switched sides as a result of those claims, but I'll admit I can't really shake them off myself either. As crude and inexcusable as their solution is, the problem sounded real. I would never use a solution that's equally bad as the problem, like they are doing, but it does seem wrong to just leave things be.”

Almost equally disturbing as that, was the way Jake was eating a lemon. The sight of it alone gave Valencia herself a bitter taste in her mouth. 'If that's an attempt to impress me, he's failing horribly...' She couldn't make much sense of it, so she focussed on her own food instead.

Jake took another bite of lemon as he gave a thoughtful pause, "Yeaaaa, we thought the orb was a lie too." He muttered, "But hey! Better safe than sorry right? And it paid off in the end. I hope..."

Jake then paused some more, thinking about what to say. It was a full 30 seconds pause he gave, before finally speaking, "I can't claim to know what Eden is saying is true, but I think it's a load of crap, to be honest. If the world's Mana was really running dry, do you think every Elf and Halfling would stay quiet about it? Surely someone of any of them would blurt it out. Halflings especially. They have that connection to the World Tree, which is filled with mana right, so they'd feel if it was dying, you dig? Plus, from what I heard about Eden's talk the other day from some Mission Navigators, what the diplomat from Eden said was also a load of crap. He didn't back up anything of what he was saying, you know?" Jake said, waving his arms around wildly as if to imitate a mad man.

Then he leaned on the table, putting his elbow on the table and his head on his hand, looking out the window, "But it did make me think about where the CS came from, but I also think Eden maaaay have had something to do with them- Hear me out!" Jake said, reaching out his hands as if to motion to Valencia not to leave, "Like, how were they able to put the CS in containers? Surely it would have been very hard to get them in there, not to mention them trying to break out, right? Maybe Eden has something to do with them?"

Jake realized he sounded like a mad man, so he went back to finishing off his lemon. Also that would be a stupid explanation for CS anyways because Eden is an asspull of a faction to begin with.

Valencia took a while to think about what Jake said, just like he had taken a while to think about what she had said. “You make some good points. They did mention how parts of the world were turning into desert, and it doesn't seem far-fetched to assume that summoning people like us would take a lot of magic, yet none of that is direct evidence of the bigger claim that the world is being drained of its mana... Besides, I haven't been around during this age for long enough to know if there is any truth to it.”

Jake continued to speculate about the Calamity Seeds. “They did have someone capable of manipulating space through teleportation, which might've been used somehow... Then again... If I were to do it, I'd capture the weaker Calamity Seeds, and make them evolve in captivity by feeding them in their containment. It's easier that way.” As sinister and morbid as it would be, it would probably be possible to capture weak Calamity Seeds and shove in people for them to feast on, until they were stronger. You'd only need a cage or container strong enough to keep them captured, not a way to capture them at their strongest.

Not wishing for that morbid topic to stay on the table for too long, Valencia figured she'd ask a question that sprang to mind when she mentioned how she was new to this age. “If you don't mind saying it, how long have you been a SOUL, and what age were you originally from?” Considering his attire, and the way he ate lemons, the stone age would be a pretty legitimate guess.

Valencia's claims about how they brought Calamity Seeds in seemed way more credible than Jake's, he had to admit... That being said, it was pretty horrible to think about if they had actually sacrificed people to them. How did they do it without people realizing they were missing? Did they just feed the Eden SOULs to them so they wouldn't waste any resources or draw suspicsion?

It was probably best not to think about it, so Jake just answered Valencia's question, "Oh boy, how to say this... I died about 20 years ago, before the Calamity Seeds came to be known. I've been a SOUL... For about a month? I progressed slowly to be honest. I spent more time enjoying the fact I wasn't dead than doing missions before I shaped up. On the plus side, I'm a lot stronger now than I had been in life. What about you?" Jake said, finishing off his lemon and starting on a pomegranate, taking it apart slowly with his hands.

It turned out that the Stone Age was more recent than most would think, as Jake had died only about 20 years ago. The fact that he had been slacking off for most of this afterlife didn't surprise Valencia. “I'm from the Age of Invention. Our castle was one of the first ones build on the continent.” It was still weird to know that 'castles' were already somewhat old-fashioned. The giant structures still existed, of course, as the Astraea HQ might even be called one, but their looks had often become more important than their function.

Considering Jake had also added his 'progress' to the talk, she did so as well. “I've only been here for a few days, but I feel like I'm slowly growing stronger. It might still take a while to reach the same strength as I had during my life, and the fact that my latest mission got cancelled doesn't help.” That said, knowing that Jake was rather high ranked, and that he managed to get there in just a month, despite slacking off a lot... It was reassuring. She'd probably be back at full strength before long. Her insane spree of bad luck wouldn't stop that.

Jake slowly picked away at his pomegranate, listening to Valencia explain how she had been from a very old age. Jake didn't know enough about history to know exactly when that was, but didn't say anything about it. Valencia also added how she was getting stronger, but it would take a while to get to the same strength in life. Jake shrugged in response, "Hey, just stay that way a while. You got another life, enjoy it. Don't overwork yourself. I heard a lot of newer SOULs tend to immediately go on missions when they come back. Always baffles me how they can adjust that fast."

Then Jake finally grabbed the pomegranetes he had been stockpiling and threw them all into his mouth. Swallowing the seeds, then starting to pick away at the fruit more, Jake leaned in forward, getting a bit more quiet, "This may be a bit of a personal question, but how did you die? The way a SOUL dies usually affects them a great deal: Their fears, their loves, and the way they do things. It's all different, and can change based on how they died. Of course, you get those SOULs that don't care either way, but still, always important to know what your fears are."

'Enjoy it.' Now that was a thing that was pretty impossible. Not like she'd explain that to this random guy she just met. All she had to share was a short remark; “For some, it's more likely to be an inability to adjust. It's easier to simply do as you're told, to focus on whatever work you seem to be needed to do, when everything you once knew is gone.” In her own case, she had always been pretty action-driven through-out her entire life, so 'relaxing' and adjusting didn't quite match up with each-other.

Jake was strangely quick to enter the realm of more personal questions, asking about how she died. It seemed like he was trying to frame it in a 'I want to help you' kind of way, but Valencia didn't exactly buy into it. To her, it just seemed like a cheap excuse to satiate his curiosity. In that aspect, Valencia resisted the urge to reply with 'read the book' and handing him a copy of the biography about her. Instead, she opted for the more tactical approach. “I got killed in an ambush. That's all I know, as I was dead the moment I realised it.”

Considering Jake's speech, Valencia could guess how he died. He had gotten strangled with his own shirt, resulting in a deep fear of shirts, causing him to never wear one. It was a truly tragic and pitiful death. The phrasing of his question did leave her wondering; “Are you talking from experience?”

Jake nodded to waht Valencia said, but still didn't get it. She sounded just like a robot, doing what she's told. No offense to robots, that is. She seemed sort of annoyed that Jake asked her how she died, with how little detail she gave and how curt she was about it. Then Jake realized he wasn't talking to a higher-ranked SOUL, who usually had no qualms sharing how they died, since it was long past that point most usually got over it, like asking what school you went to or such.

Jake shrugged, he was one of those SOULs that didn't mind sharing his death, but it still haunted him, "Y-Yea..." He muttered, "There was a forest fire, tried helping people, I died. Ever since then I've been scared to death by fire. Still haven't gotten over it. Now Astraea just sends me willy nilly on missions that KNOW have fire! I mean, I can try to fight it, but I'd rather avoid it, you know?" Jake then shrugged, popping more of the forbidden fruit into his mouth, "I guess it isn't as easy to get over as I say it is."

'I guess it'd be best not to tell him about my fighting style...' The fact that Jake died in a forest fire, and the resulting phobia, almost made her feel bad enough for him to forget he was a random stranger with some weird habits. 'It's probably best that I also never talk about how I once set a forest ablaze.' It seemed like her unfortunate death had one benefit, namely that she wasn't sure what killed her, other than that it was part of an ambush.

That said, there was something she couldn't shrug off, and considering Jake had started with the personal questions, she figured it'd be okay to continue them. “You said you died twenty years ago, right? Doesn't that mean that some of the people you knew during your life are still alive today? Twenty years isn't that long for an Elf. I've always wondered how Astraea deals with it, as it'd be difficult to explain your existence to them, especially if they knew that you died or if they notice that you stopped ageing. In my case, people might at best think that I'm someone that resembles my former self, so to say, but in your case... Do you have to keep your identity hidden while on missions?”

During Valencia's question, Jake nodded, Yup." Answering that he had, indeed, died 20 years ago. He scratched his head trying to think of a good answer, "Well yea, normally I would have to, but only in Septima. I never travelled outside of my own country when I was alive. I did start out in Septima though, starting as an E rank, I made my way up through. But as I said before, I took it easy the first week or so, so I was walking through the city and country for a bit. That was when I encountered my old friend, Conall." Jake stopped for a bit, the memory leaving a bad taste in his mouth.

He leaned on the table, only picking at his food, "When I was alive, Conall and I were like brothers. I was so excited, I ran up to him and started crying. Of course, he was 20 years older, and flabbergasted that I was alive. He asked me how the hell I survived. I told him I didn't, and explained what SOULs were." Jake sighed, turning away, "That was a mistake... You see, he had a wife, Kyrrha, who had died 5 years before me. He was so excited to know I was alive again, and asked where she was. I-"

Jake let out a shaky breath and shook his head, "I had to tell him she wasn't a SOUL. After I died, I only briefly looked into my friends and family who had died to see if they were SOULs, only to find out not everyone becomes one. I didn't think anything of it at the time, but Conall was devastated to hear that, and refused to believe she wasn't anything but a SOUL. He left me there, still wondering if what I said was wrong, and I found out later, after I had started actually doing missions, that he had committed suicide, trying to get her back as a SOUL, but killing himself when he couldn't."

Jake shrugged, picking more at his food, "Since then, I decided not to tell anyone I was a SOUL, and would play it off as just looking similar, while also transferring to Yvalia. I didn't want the pain of losing anyone else, so I left them behind. So to answer your question, no, I don't keep my identity hidden, but only because there's noone to hide it from." Jake said, shrugging.

The Elf in front of her was oddly talkative, as her question triggered quite the story. However, there were things that were... odd... at best. She knew that she was in the wrong place to ask about it, but with that device on her wrist monitoring her, anywhere would be 'the wrong place', so she figured that it would best if she'd straight up asked about it. “How did Astraea react to it? It seems to me that we're meant to keep our existence a secret, no matter from whom. So... are you sure it was a suicide? To me, it sounds more like an attempt at getting rid of someone whom knew too much.” Well, there it was. Valencia was from a time and age were suicide had been virtually non-existent, other than for 'noble' goals, such as dying in combat. This, combined with her growing mistrust towards Astraea, made this theory seem likely enough for her to mention it in the middle of the wolves' den itself.

Jake shook his head in response to Valencia's statement, "Naw, I know more than a few SOULs who have told their family and nothing happened to them. Conall just had a special bond with Kyrrha. It was hard enough for him to take her death. It was harder to know that there were people who are able to come back, but she didn't. Hell, before I died, I had to take a knife to stop him from offing himself." Jake finished, standing up and gesturing to a small white scar just to the left of his navel.

Sitting back down, Jake continued, "Listen, Astraea may be shady, but they aren't THAT shady. SOULs may not have the rights mortals do, but they won't kill anyone just because they know about SOULs. How else would they deal with people who left Astraea? Can't just erase several years worth of memories. SOULs are a secret yea, but just not a super private one." Jake said, shrugging and starting to peel a banana.

"Anyways-" Jake said, taking a bite of the banana sensually and swallowing it after chewing, "I suggest you don't tell anyone but family members, and even then you want to be careful. It's a lonely world out there, but if your own family offs themselves from something like that, then it'll just get lonelier."

Her suspicions/accusations were disregarded, and although it was a bit strange that this kind of secret was so... non-secretive, the answer was enough to satisfy her. “Anyone I once knew died ages ago, so that won't be of a concern. The worst that can happen, is that I'm unable to explain why I look identical to someone from the history books. It's weird, but I found out that someone actually wrote a biography about me.” There was one thing that was a bit bothersome, mainly the 'lonely' part, as that described how she felt quite well. To loose all relations you built up through-out your life in a single instant and to start totally anew... it wasn't easy. The fact that she wasn't quite to warm up to people unless they were cute didn't help either. A conversation like this was about the most that she could handle.

Jake took another bite of banana, scratching his head, "Yea, I think seeing my own biography after I died would have been pretty weird." Jake said, shrugging.

Without notice, his COMB, suddenly beeped, and Jake took a look at it, "Ah, bummer." He said, starting to stand up, picking the morsels of his food up as well, "I gotta go now, a friend needs help with something. Nice talking with you, Val, maybe we can talk some other time!" He said, waving off to her, and, if she didn't have anything else to say, left the area to go do his own things.

Alatar stepped into the Dining Hall, wearied despite having done literally nothing. Numerous experiences of it had by now taught him just how frustrating it was to be in the Freeze Occurrence. Besides, shouldn't an ice mage be better at resisting Freezing? bah dum tsss

Well, at least it didn’t seem like anything majorly problematic had occurred during his Freezing. Evidently, the mine mission had been “completed” on its own, due to the mine entrance collapsing before the SOULs would’ve been able to get there. Tragic and unfortunate though that might be, it was a relief to know his Freezing hadn't led to the failure of a mission and the deaths of comrades.

After recovering from the Freeze Occurrence, Alatar wandered his way over to the Dining Hall in relative silence. It wasn't that he wanted to be edgy and brooding, he just didn't really have anything to talk with Firio about right now. They just meandered through the city on their way back to Astraea, glancing at some shops and local landmarks that they hadn't seen before.

Once actually in the Dining Hall, Alatar approached the counter. It seemed that the menu, which had only been changed like twice in eight days had finally disappeared, good riddance. Alatar ordered himself a simple ham and cheddar on sourdough, and a pot of tea, Earl Gray, hot, before taking his food and searching for a table. Skimming around, he soon caught sight of a traumatized familiar Beastkind. Alatar grabbed some lemons as he walked over and offered one to Valencia.

”Good day, Valencia. Do you mind if I share your table?” If rejected, Alatar would of course move off elsewhere and find another place to sit, but hopefully that wouldn’t be the case.

Should no other conversation be in progress between the two a few moments later, Alatar would speak up again: ”My apologies for Freezing earlier. I hope it wasn't too much of an inconvenience for you all.”

As all things in life, the caveman had come and gone. She had just waved him off, and was about to put her plate away when Alatar walked up to her. “Not at all, just let me put this away and get something to drink.” She said, after heading over to do as said, coming back with mate tea. As no other conversation would be in progress between the two a few moments later, and the silence was a little awkward, Alatar spoke up again. “Considering how the mission ended, it didn't make a difference. Besides, I know it's unavoidable.” “Even an ice mage shouldn't be freezing himself.”

She sipped from her tea for a moment, before proceeding. “Did you happen to see if Miyu also got out of freeze occurrence? It didn't sit well with me to leave the two of you behind, but I didn't wish to delay too much.”

Valencia essentially brushed aside Alatar's apology, remarking that with how the mission ended it wasn't exactly a major problem. Alatar grimaced slightly at the statement; it may have been accurate, but it was still quite unfortunate for those miners.

What Valencia mentioned next was slightly more troublesome. "I know, its bizarre. You'd think I'd be able to better control my magic." "The Human girl? I wasn't aware that she had Frozen. She at least wasn't there when I awoke. Ah, well, perhaps she just Froze for less time and then left me there. It'd appear strange for someone to carry around a statue, after all."

Alatar would continue to eat, his time as an adventurer bleeding through in the form of his fairly speedy manner of eating. After having numerous meals interrupted by enemies or incidents, Alatar had learned to eat quickly or risk losing his food. In contrast, he would take relatively leisurely sips of his tea from time to time, resulting in his sandwich being finished long before his tea. Still, that was all the better for holding conversations. It was much easier to sip and swallow tea in the midst of dialogue than it was to chew through food.

Should Valencia not have any other questions or comments to keep conversation flowing, Alatar would inquire a bit about Valencia herself. "If you do not mind my asking, how long have you been a SOUL?"

Valencia wasn't sure what to make of Alatar's reply. Either Miyu was fine, or someone creep had taken her away. She truly hoped it was the former. Luckily, with Astraea's monitoring and the fact that Miyu had frozen in a relatively safe area, that option was also the likeliest. After all, Valencia had already called dibs on Miyu. As before, Valencia didn't really keep the conversation going. She had already had issues trying to keep her previous conversation going, and that one turned into some sort of interrogation. Luckily enough, Alatar himself didn't have the same issues, now making her the one interrogated.

“Only for I've got no clue how long it's been IC at all, at this rate, like, it's only a few days, but is it like four, three, two or five or maybe even six, I don't know, because all these events and all that drama OOC and the MAL downtime and the fact that the club doesn't have a back-up of the posts has made my external memory virtually non-existent and my internal memory hasn't been great to begin with, so let's just keep this rant here and please fill in the blanks yourself somehow, or don't, I don't know, sorry. days. It seemed that Valencia wasn't much one for starting conversations at the moment, so Alatar went with his idea of asking how long she'd been here. The answer was decidedly vague, but unfortunately there was no way of clarifying it due to a certain asshole ragequitting. Alatar nodded in reply to the answer; a little less than he himself had been here for. It stood to reason that if she was a D rank SOUL like Alatar himself, she'd have been here a similar length of time.

"I believe this is either the seventh or eighth day of my time here. Despite the oddity of living again, I find that the days sometimes run together, especially when combined with the periodic Freezing."

Unfortunately, Alatar had never exactly been a super talkative type. Not knowing Valencia very well, he had no idea of what sort of interests she might have, or what things she might hate to discuss. For the moment, at any rate, he would just let the silence hang, drinking his tea in the awkward hush above their table as he tried to think of a topic generic enough to be safe for discussion with a relative stranger.

Valencia felt the same as Alatar, with regards to days blending together. Time was a weird concept, after all. It was like each day lasted multiple months. That said, it seemed like the task of keeping the conversation going had fallen onto her shoulders, this time around. After all, there was little to react to, other than to agree with what Alatar said through a simple nod. She debated talking about the weather, but she wasn't sure if she should sink that low. That's why she choose to sink only a slightly less, and figured she'd ask him about his magic. It was probably still a question he'd get asked a lot, but it was enough to keep the conversation going. “If you don't mind me asking, how did you end up learning ice magic?” It was one of the lesser used elements, for as far as Valencia was aware.

Though Alatar was grateful that he didn't have to come up with more topics of discussion on his own, Valencia's question wasn't the easiest to answer.

”I am afraid I can only speculate. Stereotypical though it might be, my youth is something of a mystery to me, as I have lost my memory of it. I simply awoke one day, and I was already capable of utilizing it. Though I'm sure Firio's presence is more than just a small part of it.

Well, if they were discussing origins of powers, Alatar might as well ask about Valencia’s own. Fire wasn't nearly as unusual a power as ice, from what Alatar had seen, but it could be interesting all the same.

”Would you mind telling where you got your own power from? Well, assuming you don't also have missing memory, heh.”

It seemed like Alatar had suffered serious enough brain-freeze to forget his youth. It had also caused him to start talking about the voices in his head. For as far as dating went, Valencia had chosen a great partner. In either case, Valencia didn't recall hearing the name 'Firio' before, and she wasn't even sure if it was a masculine or feminine name. “I don't think I've heard that name before. Is this Firio another SOUL?” It was odd for someone to rely on someone else for their power, yet Valencia could relate to it, at least to some degree. After all, she was relying on her lance for it.

“Magic users were fairly common among my ancestors, although I wasn't capable of using it until I got my lance. When I first channelled magic through it, it resulted in blue flames coming out. It's sort-off a catalyst. I'm not sure how much of the magic is my own and how much of it is the result of using the lance, but I'd be unable to use magic without it.”

Valencia listened to Alatar's brief spiel about his powers, only really inquiring about Firio when Alatar mentioned her. The question generated a split second of confusion on Alatar's face before he remembered that he probably just hadn't mentioned Firio to Valencia before. Between Alatar meeting and speaking with so many people to different degrees in the relatively short timespan of these few days and Alatar himself taking Firio's presence as a given, it was both natural to forget to bring her up and to forget about said forgetting.

"My apologies; I sometimes forget to what degree I've spoken with people. Firio is, well, I believe her to be an ice spirit that partly shares my body." Alatar used his left finger to flick the silver ring on his right hand, saying "Oi," as he did so.

"What?" Firio's voice could be heard emanating from the ring, the annoyance within her tone just as obvious as the sound itself. "I was just starting my food coma."

Directing his head and voice towards the ring, Alatar would reply: "What kind of person enters a food coma after a single sandwich? Not to mention that tea is supposed to help keep one awake." Then, turning back towards Valencia: "That is Firio."

"You bothered me for just that? Hmph. Wake me when something interesting happens. Or for dessert."

Despite the temporal funkiness involved, Alatar would listen patiently to Valencia's own explanation of her abilities. It seemed that they were lucky enough to not both be amnesiac lance/magic wielding SOULs, but really, those didn't seem like odds that ought to be very hard to beat. Evidently, the lance served as a catalyst for her powers, to the point where she couldn't tell how much of it was her own and how much her lance's.

"I know not of your life, but does it truly matter whether the magic is yours or your lance's? During my life and with the people I knew then, it rarely mattered how one had obtained their power, so long as they wielded it for the sake of Good. And, as I understand it, as SOULs, we have our Astral Gears that exist as part of ourselves. So, in a way, is your lance not now a part of you?"

Valencia couldn't help herself from getting confused by this whole 'Firio' thing. Sure enough, she heard a voice emanating from the ring worn by Alatar, but the topic and the way of speaking were nothing she'd relate to something as an 'ice spirit'. If anything, it was sounding a lot more like what a ventriloquist would joke about with their puppet. In the end, she figured it was wiser to remain silent about it. She didn't want to risk falling for a bad joke, nor did she wish to insult this ice mage. Only staying silent was a safe way to avoid either of those options.

Things didn't stop there, however, as Alatar tried to lecture her. It completely fell flat, however, as his first presumption was already mistaken. After all, she didn't care as much about how she got her power as he seemed to think. “Not exactly, but I wouldn't have been able to answer your question, where I got my power from, by leaving it out.
