A really great episode and so nostalgic :D

And it's good to see they added some more content and made the city more modern like than from the anime, making the animation and art really good :)

Everything was great though I prefer not that flashy animation like in Road to 2002 but I guess it's acceptable since they did do it a lot in the Captain J which was also really good not better than Road to 2002 but still really good :D

All in all I love this episode and although I know the overall story I can't help but notice the added new stuff aswell as the other things that makes this like a new experience XD

I can only hope the next episodes can only be as good if not better, overall a good first episode :D

The first episode was amazing! I felt like I was 8 years old again!! The songs, the design of the characters, that sensation of movement the animation gave... It's better than I expected at the beginning!! And if it follows the manga, giving opportunity to animate the other parts of the manga that were never animated, even better!!

Can't wait for more!!

Taking advantage that CT gained some momentum here thanks to this remake, doesn't anyone here think that the original version from the 80s is severely underrated in this site?

7.35 is almost-trash by MAL standards, which disappoints me a lot. I don't expect an 8.5 score whatsoever, but if many shows considered so-so by the majority can get a 7.8+ score here, I don't know why CT can't have a score above that too.

I find it good, 7.35 is fine by my standards, the 83 version was the best so far adaptation-wise (except for the fillers later on) but some matches were unnecessarily long, like, the final one being 14 episodes or more i think, lol.

Shin had the pacing of the matches spot on imo but on the downside many things outside the matches was cut out.

When the series came out in Portugal 1993 was a blast. So many good players noawadays are someone because of this. Zidade, Messi, Podolski, Iniesta is hardcore fan even displaying nakatsu shirt everywhere and Llorente goes as far as saying he didn't care about football until he start watching the anime. So, this is heavy influenced anime - probably more than any other in Europe. I bet that everyone that started playing in the 90's and 00's watch the anime. After all the names I gave you are just a tip on the iceberg. Luis Enrique compare Messi to Tsubasa and Casillas to Wakabayashi (several years ago of course, this means that Ronaldo is Hyuga and Iniesta as Misugi (I can see that)

Now tell me another anime that influence in this manner Europeans? Now go criticize the lenght of the football field.

In the 90's EVERYONE play football after watching this anime...

Btw, KazuYoshi Miura (Tsubasa was not inspired by him after all Miura had 14 years when the manga was released) but both went to Brazil (then one went to Italy and other to Spain) still plays today. He is 51 and the oldest professional player in football and the oldest goalscorer of all time. Basically he was there when the first Tsubasa was out and probably still be there when this end.

Suffice to say - Anime of the Season without a doubt. 20 years of nostalgia are unbeatable. This anime will get over 8.00 in rating no sweat UNLESS they mess a lot with, after all the first anime had 100 plus episodes and this one is going to have 52. I hope they don't screw about the gameplay. I enjoy the lenght of the field of 30 miles :

JUN MISUGI! Probably the only character I wanted to be when I grew up (minus the heart condition please - spoilers?) I am 37 and still love him - have a poster on him in my house.

What i see from this thread. Mostly we are Captain Tsubasa Original Series Fans or ever watch Captain Tsubasa before . We watched it either when series was airing first or around 2002 when Road to 2002 was made. And at that time, Original CT or Road to 2002 has good quality animation for that time. But it is not work for new anime watcher. I don't know when this site was established. But i can see a lot of newcomer to anime community and the first thing they look for a series were animation quality before story. Maybe for them, Original CT or Road to 2002 has "bad" animation for their eye.

I wonder if I'm the only one here who dislike this new version.
I mean: it's fine if the staff want to show case their ability in animating, but- dark flame wall around the penalty box? Come on =D
Also there's really no point in Roberto's existence if Tsubasa already can do that 40-yard "eagle shot" chipshot and the bicycle kick.

but more importantly, is that this Tsubasa is more of a superhero show than a shounen sport show.
Well, new take, I can see why they want to be different, so sure you may,
but- at least remove the out-of-place chuuni thing, please.
The OP is good. I know it's an OP, but that's the stuff, imo, we as viewers should expect when we begin watching an episode.

You have to take the wall around the penalty box as metaphor for his legend of not conceding any goal from outside the box, I guess it wasn't needed but I'm used to it.
I'm pretty sure he shot the ball to Wakabayashi's house as well in the 83 anime and the chuuni stuff is not out of place Captain Tsubasa as a lot of edgy teens.

Oh, I forgot Tsubasa did.

I know it's pretty edgy, but- this is a legendary manga and anime not only to us here in anime community, but to a lot of people.
I mean: like 50% of the pro footballers that played in the 90s and 00s grew up watching and being inspired by Captain Tsubasa.
A few of them still play, even.
I'm just a bit sad at how I cannot see how this current adaptation can win crowds other than the established old fans, let alone inspire a new surge of footballers.

Maybe it's just me. Maybe the old fans part of me is making me nitpicking too much.

Captain Tsubasa was my very first anime (back when I didn't even know what anime really was, just that it looked much more dynamic than other cartoons) so I have the fondest memories even though I don't even like football. I watched the oldest version with the never ending field back when I was 5. I haven't watched it that many times though, that's especially hard with old, long series. I managed to watch a more modern version (remake perhaps?) and the madhouse version as well, which was pretty cool IMO.
After watching the madhouse version I was not really convinced of this announcement, so here's my thoughts after having watched the first episode...

- I don't recall that in any of the previous versions Tsubasa's parents were shown as being that negligent. They were watching their kid from afar and it was a long time before they realized he was absent... In my mind Tsubasa's dad was instantly elevated to the pantheon of worst parents after this, right up there with Ging Freecs.
- Opening was pretty dope, animation and ideas were excellent, it really gets you pumped up. The song was good although my favorite will probably always be a tie between old series and Dragon Screamer. Oh yeah, and there's that rock-heavy version that was created for the first series' Latin American dub, it had guitar solos and screams and all, pretty awesome. Naruto's NA opening would only dream of being like it.
- Pacing was okay. A few extra scenes I didn't remember, that was okay. At first I was little triggered because it seemed like Tsubasa and Ryo weren't in a sanctuary, but then, they actually were XD My only real nitpick was that need to adapt everything to the modern days, now Tsubasa's dad has a smartphone, Ryo and Tsubasa were having ice cream outside a convenience store (well to be fair I don't know if those existed back then in Japan, but it looked modern) and all that. Kinda messes up the timeline, not a big deal though.
-The football shots (or shot shots? ._.) were pretty dope, and they used this kind of picturesque type of still shot to accentuate some scenes that was really common in the 80s and 90s (postcard memories IIRC, it was very common in the old anime and in Berserk) with heavy manga lines, I just loved it. DAT SHOT UNDER THE BUS WILL NEVER GET OLD, DOPEST MOMENT OF THE EPISODE! A few derpy looking faces here and there though, sometimes you don't know if it's intentional due to the simple art style of the series or just classic corner-cutting. Coloring makes it feel less like a rehash of the madhouse version, good choice IMO.
-Music was okay overall, but that ending song hit me right in the nostalgia. Well played.

7/10 This has potential, I hope it only gets better from here on. Will be watching it regularly.

I don't know how I ended up writing this much, sorry.

Nice direction with so many 80s elements, though they did exaggerate with the amount of speed lines. I was expecting stronger chara-redesigns to fix the author's problem with perspective/side face but looks like they kept it.

- This remake certainly does not aim children, seeing its broadcast slot. Between this and the overexploitation of dramatic stills, overlayed heads and speed lines, it's pretty much for "old days maniacs" and nostalgic adults.
- Road to 2002, the animation, actually lost quite a lot of time to retell most of the initial story.
