| Hey all. First, I apologize if I did not put this thread on Series Discussion. I was thinking I might get a quicker response in here, whatever. I was re-watching Ballroom e Youkoso a couple of hours ago, and suddenly I felt the urge to try "The Box" as mentioned by Tomoki and illustrated by Sengoku on EP 1. The imagery that was left in the back of my mind was a right food slide followed by a very big left step, and every 1-2-3 count interval you will be facing either the front or the back side, consecutively. Yes, at first it confused me because I was doing the left and right steps while only facing one side, that's why I can't get the momentum right and felt awkward. Afterwards, I fixed it. After I got it right with Sengoku's how-to (but raising your feet, or whatever you call that step, in every last count is hard, and you have to also bring back your feet together while remaining in that position which really offs your balance!), I decided to watch some Youtube videos for other references. I casually typed "Walts The Box", but it's weird. In this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4dyoUof25E they're telling you to visualize the dance as a "box", but unlike Tatara's or Sengoku's Box, the semblance of a pendulum swing-movvement is very weak or even non-existent! The couples in the Youtube videos were just casually forming a box in their waltz, and there wasn't the significant raising of feet, the BIG STEPS, and the left/right foot forward on first count doesn't make them bend knees or legs that much. If this is the case, what is this "The Box" that was being portrayed in the anime? Is it really the beginner step for waltz, or "The Box" is different from "Box Step", etc.? Is it another variant, or the anime exaggerated in its illustration? Pardon my ignorance, I have little to no knowledge of ballroom dance before, honestly it's more like I have no experience in any kind of "formal" dancing. |
