An official website has opened on Wednesday announcing that the Basilisk series will receive a sequel manga and an accompanying TV anime adaptation titled Basilisk: Ouka Ninpouchou. The manga will be based on Masaki Yamada's sequel novel of the same name. Yamada will also write the manga with illustrations by Tatsuya Shihira, and will begin its serialization in the 34th issue of Weekly Young Magazine on July 24. The sequel will center around two elite ninjas of the Kouga and Iga clan, named as Hachirou and Hibiki, respectively.

Fuutarou Yamada has written the first novels of Basilisk in 1958 and 1959 as Kouga Ninpouchou (The Kouga Ninja Scrolls). It has been adapted into several live-action, manga, and anime series. Masaki Segawa drew the novel's 5-volume manga adaptation and was serialized in Young Magazine Uppers from February 2003 to June 2004. Kodansha Comics USA has released all volumes of the manga digitally in English in 2014. Studio Gonzo produced a 24-episode anime adaptation in 2005. In the same year, the manga has also inspired a live-action film titled Basilisk: Shinobi Heart Under Blade.

Was this second novel already turned into a movie? (I watched the 200x theatrical live of the first story)

@Ramkec It wuld be great that Gonzo gets it, but it's not the last trendy studio you hire for adaptations anymore. Far from it. Also, even if they were working on it, they wouldn't use the style of the previous series and "betray" this new comic adaptation's artist.

@KurumiNightmare You could check the movie too.

But I do need to rewatch it sometime but holy damn. That's pretty good news tho.

Really good news, first Basilisk series is one of my favorite shows, true the story might be a standard Romeo and Juliet with ninjas plot, but everything else about that show was done beautifully and it easily set standards for that time for anime.

I just hope the studio is Gonzo again and they do it in similar style as the first one (the visual above is already giving me good vibes).

Holy mother of french cheese, I did not see this coming. I like it thought, it gives me incentive to re watch the first series.

Wow, that's a name that takes me back quite a few years. What's with all these old series getting sequels recently? Oh well, gonna follow it anyway since I enjoyed the manga quite a bit when it was still rather new (I am getting old...).
Steel Ball Run anime when?

Both the manga and anime are the same, anime adapts the manga page for page, nothing is changed. Only manga is a little more explicit.

Overall whatever you pick up you'll be fine. Or just go with both.

Wait what!? What are they continuing? I'm pretty sure everyone SPOILER ALERT!!! It's not a good idea imo. I don't know how are they gonna handle the violence of this anime. How the hell are they gonna broadcast a show with so much violence? And the artstyle- the first season has a distinguish and different artstyle than the animes coming out nowadays. Are they gonna adjust it to the modern art style?
I'm scared for this project honestly

Stupid question, I just realized that it wasn't based on the other novel from the same author but another Yamaga. Are they related?

Its not a direct sequel, it just happens in the same universe and around Kouga and Iga clans 10 years after the Basilisk story, with new characters.

I don´t see it having the same impact and success as the prequel...but...who knows. It seems it will be with kids instead of adults? maybe the story becomes more...light. I just cannot see how the plot will go honestly...I mean
Guess ill have to watch to find out.

Whoa I've seen this series many year ago.

I mean, with shows like Kino's Journey, Hell's Girl, etc back, I can't say anything is unexpected anymore. Might give this a try. I barely remember anything from the first season though lol

I can give you a quick run down

This is interesting tho, along with code geass and full metal panic, I'm hoping at least one turns out well. (FMP has the best shot tbh)

This is honestly one of my favorite comics and the anime was well done too. We don't need an extra part o-O

Where is Y+M!

I don't trust this. They're going to war as kids? No way. Not with the Hattori pact.

Really didn't thought this would ever happen. This in my PtW list.
But it's important to remember that a movie review is subjective;it only gives you one person's opinion.

It doesn't matter if you like LoGH,Monster etc.If you are a jobless or college/school dropout living in your mom basement, you are still an unintelligent loser. Taste in anime does not make you a better person. If elitist don't exist, casual pleb and shit taste also don't exist.

The art i am not to fund of they look like kids but that is just the times really .I do hope the show will be good but not expecting it to feel like Shinobi/basalisk as in being very dark.

OK! You know what? I change my mind. Maybe it's not a trap (MAYBE!); it's a comic adaptation rather than a original.

http://yanmaga.jp/contents/basilisk-ouka

It's a sequel (10 years later) and its different members of same clans. What annoys me is that there is little info. Apparently the two characters are twins? Boy is possibly Hachiro? And girl is possibly Hibiki. Iga ninja.
