Lovecraft's Dagon appears in Witcher game http://witcher.wikia.com/wiki/Dagon, Necronomicon appears in http://myanimelist.net/anime/220/Mystery_of_the_Necronomicon (does anybody know, where I can find subtitles) Cthulhu and Necronomicon appears in "Trylogia Husycka" polish fantasy trilogy about hussite war created by "Andrzej Sapkowksi" (creator o Witcher saga). P.S Sorry for my english |
I don't know were you can find subs for it, and since it has an average rating of 6 it's probably not worth the bother anyway. Here's a list of movies based on Lovecraft's work, seems like most people consider Re-Animator to be the best. |
This is a must read for all Cthulhu fans: http://www.neilgaiman.com/p/Cool_Stuff/Short_Stories/I_Cthulhu Niel Gaimen's A Study in Emerald is also pretty interesting :) |
Thanks for the link, that story was pretty funny. By the way, Neil Gaiman was featured in a documentary on Lovecraft called The Eldritch Influence, were he mentions that his favorite Lovecraft story is The Colour Out of Space. |
Study in Emerald was a whole lot of fun. I also enjoyed his other two Lovecraft mashups, Only The End of the World Again and Shoggoth's Old Peculiar. He has some really neat and fun takes on the concepts. I remember hearing about The Eldritch Influence but I've never had a chance to see it. Did it ever get a comercial DVD release or was it one of those film fest only kind of things..? |

Shoggoth's Old Peculiar is also really funny :) Especially how he got the idea: 2 days chating in a bar got him drunk enough to write it. |
Later this month The Darkness: Shadows and Flame is coming out which is supposed to have some lovecraft elements. http://www.majorspoilers.com/archives/28146.htm/ |
Alucard and Seras They have kinky sex |
there are a few games related to lovecraft stories and also batman.. |
Good article on Japan's increasingly awful interpretation of the Mythos, including a lot of obscure works that I never knew existed (and wish didn't) http://tokyoscum.blogspot.com/2011/01/lovecrafts-decent-into-insanity-or-is.html Also I never realized the Witcher series referenced Lovecraft. Not the biggest fan of the games but slavs at least seem to get it right. |
Sadly, most references are funny and hollow ones. There are also way less of them than someone would expect. I guess this is because popularity on the internet is still somewhat different from the popularity in RL. Of course there are things like South Park, and Futurama showed a Yith once, it's unaccurate since it was just meant to be comedic but still. Regarding the philosophy and the Yellow King (if you consider him as a canon thing due to Whisperer in the Darkness) there is True Detective, but eveybody has probably already seen this. Not a fan of memes. I wish there would be more serious stuff out there. Also, thanks for the info about the Japanese interpretations. Kinda interesting, but yeah, I grew tired of moefications of everything. I do even watch anime with girls but I don't really see the point of using literary or historical characters if the anime versions don't have anything in common with the originals anymore. Maybe the name or some quirk at best. |
