Yeah, I showed it to my friends as well just a few moments ago. When I first saw the list, I was a little skeptical as to why Sono Hana was there, since the OVA has already been released. Another time was when Saya no Uta was put on a list, then later on removed. I'll be changing this topic title a little. |

I really can't understand how this manga didn't get an anime... Serious.. It's a true masterpiece Yuri/Romance/School/Drama Slice of Life manga.... Although if it was to gain a "fail" anime adaptation (with chapter skipes, changes and etc), it's better to not even have an anime to not spoil the beautiful work that is 'Girl Friends'... Besides, 'Girl Friends' is one of those mangas that really deserves a full anime adaptation of all chapters. By the way, thanks Morigana-sensei for the beautiful work! The best Yuri manga I've read so far! 10/10 Thanks! PS.: Of course, who woudn't like to see the 'AFTER'..? Unfortunately, there are few authors that makes the 'after'... =/ Morigana-sensei could be these "few authors"... =( at least with 'Girl Friends' (y) PS2.: Currently, which manga Morigana-sensei is working..? |

I mean, we have already 2 yuri animes getting an anime, a third would be too much according to the quantity of yuri animes we got every year/season. What do you think? Of course, I hope you're right, though. |

I think that every year we have less and less chance for an anime adaptation, but thinking better, you're right about the upcoming yuri animes might give a light for a possible GF adaptation if they succeed. The genre yuri is in game. I feel like it as well. GF would be an awesome anime, specially if they adapt exactly like the manga, because the manga is already a masterpiece in my opinion. Good pace, good relationship development, does not drag the story, and very real (the girls actions, reactions). Cute, lovely romance, good drama, good SoL. Well, I'm suspect to say this because I'm a fan.... =P |

I dunno about the current adaptations in 2017... Theyre both Yuri animes and not Shouji Ai and dont have this light cute. yet serious enough atmosphere, but a darker tone with NTR and unpleasentness. So it may not be a selling point tor GF. But anyways, i really dont get it. Considering the big fan base Girl Friends will be a big success. Of course the animation has to be at least ok, not too much has to be left out and the main story should be Canon. I wont mind adding/altering some jokes, other scenes, or even leaving out some minor stuff. One season + some OVAs should be enough to get a proper adaptation. If this gets an anime Id buy it 99%. |

Man it's kinda too late now right? At first I thought maybe Morinaga Milk-sensei was the one who refuses/refused to have it be adapted? But the reason seems to be very simple, the manga just wasn't popular/sell well when it was first released. Imagine if it came out between 2012/14 to now then it would have had a high chance of being adapted. The manga was very influential and was probably one of the few or even the series that got most western/non Japanese yuri/GL lovers/readers into the genre in first place, so it will still always be known/infamous. It holds the honor of being the gateway (in)to yuri for lots of new (mostly western) readers. Sometimes I think because of this reason it might still have a chance of being adapted, if studios take notice. Morinaga sensei said this about girl friends back in 2012 in an interview with okazu(yuricon): "I don’t think it’s very popular in Japan. I don’t see it for sale in bookstores near me. Only maniac Yuri fans seem to be reading it. I was very happy when I learned that it would be translated into English. But since I don’t read English, I don’t know if the translation will capture the right nuance at all." |

I totally agree vanillaskynet, and I was unaware of that interview, which did help me confirm it's small popularity in Japan, as I was unsure just how it held up in comparison to the west, so thank you. And even though Japan doesn't seem to give a shit about the western anime/manga community, doesn't mean we can't try, have you tried signing this petition? It was my first Yuri manga as well, but I don't think that will necessarily be the driving force behind the adaptation, if it ever gets one. Right now, Japan is definitely behind when it comes to LGBT rights, and with the anime of NTR and Citrus coming up soon, it will only stir the pot for future discussion and debate, if they are both successful. This is when I believe Girl Friends would/should be adapted, and if it is done right, then it will probably make a huge impact on how Japan views LGBT struggles. It probably won't be as spectacular or clean cut as I just described, but I can definitely see something like that happening, all we need to accomplish as fans is to make studios notice that there is a Yuri manga by the name of Girl Friends, that is considered to be a modern classic and gets high ratings despite how unpopular it was when it was publishing, and with the right touch can make something everyone will talk about. It could take a miracle or just a bunch of dedicated/passionate people to make this a reality. |

Old thread, but just want to add for anyone that sees this that money talks in this industry. I would sell 56% of my possessions to see a Girlfriends anime, but buying the manga is the best I and anyone else who wants to see it can do. With the Yuri boom starting up this year, I expect we'll be seeing more and more adaptations and Yuri manga translations in the near future, so support the work by buying it if you love it! |

First of all, the biggest objective would be getting those signatures, I am also trying to contact the creator of the petition just in case we need more. I don't really know how, but I do have some theories of how I can probably get it done. I would say the biggest wager would be on Citrus and NTR being a success in anime form, leading to new opportunities for Yuri adaptations. Citrus and NTR are popular Yuri manga, but Girl Friends is considered a cult classic, so it has gained popularity and a following over time. I would say that if I can get the signatures in after the Citrus and NTR animes air and cause a stir, and post it on a popular Japanese website and/or Morinaga's Twitter, I can get some kind of trend starting. Actually something like that has happened before recently. Japan was awestruck when The King's Avatar came into their mainstream media as a Chinese anime that looks better than Japanese anime, and someone posted MAL ratings of The King's Avatar and a few other series and that post trended for quite a while. So I wouldn't say it is impossible that I couldn't make a splash with the petition if Citrus and NTR become the talk of modern anime. But that is just a theory. Of course, I will never be able to predict how this might go down, but just pushing for an anime is bound to make something happen (if we push hard enough). I am also working hard to spread the word, mainly through fan arts that I am shoe-horning into my already cramped schedule, so its not like I am relying on posting it onto forums and comment sections of manga sites... But it seems like I might be the only one extremely passionate about it... |

I sure hope Citrus is a decent adaptation. NTR I don't have much faith in, but a good Citrus adaptation and nice sales figures would make future adaptations more likely. My theory for most likely future adaptations would be probably Kase-san (after Vol 4 release), Bloom Into You (after Vol 4 release), and Girlfriends (assuming Yuri continues to gain popularity as a genre) |

Third, while the petition itself won't necessarily convince any animation studio to adapt the work, showing that many people support the work is better if the studio is looking for something that will sell. Lastly, any support from you and others will be a great help, even if you are skeptical, it doesn't hurt to put your name or codename down. Please sign this petition, if you are interested. |

I'm hopeful for NTR, but I sure wouldn't bet any money on it <_< Well, I think you're right about the studio being a big part of Citrus' success though; I'm surprised nothing's been revealed since the adaptation announcement. I'm hoping to see it come out this fall. I think with nice art and a good soundtrack the melodrama storyline will carry it on its own, so I have my fingers crossed! Kase-san is great btw, I'm almost done volume 1 and I think it's really cute and funny. Recommended! The question about a Girlfriends movie is interesting though, I guess I never even considered the possibility... hypothetically speaking it could work, but I'd want it to be at least 2 hours long. I think one of the big strengths of GFs is how Morinaga really establishes the two girls as friends and gives them a great chemistry together before she gets into exploring the implications of a Yuri romance. Most Yuri jumps straight to the "ba-dumps" and the "but we're both girls!" but GFs was more patient. I'd want the movie to be patient with that first volume stuff too so it has that same impact. Well, my preference for GFs would ultimately be a TV series, but I do think it could work either way :D |

I would also sell my possessions and I bet you're right about future Yuri adaptations, so please contribute by signing and sharing this petition that you probably have already seen many times in this forum and that I am desperately making sure everyone here signs, annoyingly so. It would be a great help. Signed for kicks; do you have a plan on who will see it or where to send it, however? Well, don't give up lol I myself am pretty skeptical of the power of online petitions , but that's why I've been buying ridiculous amounts of Yuri manga with my spending money each month. And I really believe it helps, because since I started buying Yuri a year ago, here we are now with tons of officially translated manga and a Citrus and NTR adaptation! I sure hope Citrus is a decent adaptation. NTR I don't have much faith in, but a good Citrus adaptation and nice sales figures would make future adaptations more likely. My theory for most likely future adaptations would be probably Kase-san (after Vol 4 release), Bloom Into You (after Vol 4 release), and Girlfriends (assuming Yuri continues to gain popularity as a genre) I have all the translated volumes of Citrus and NTR, and have had them since before the adaptations were even announced. I was genuinely shocked to hear that they were getting adaptations, and even though NTR can go either way with how it is received, I think depending on the studio, Citrus can really be a success. I can definitely see Bloom into you getting an adaptation in the near future, and I need to catch up to the releases, I haven't read Kase-san yet, but I did watch that animated short that came out earlier this month and if that doesn't scream "possible adaptation", I don't know what does. Well, my preference for GFs would ultimately be a TV series, but I do think it could work either way :D I think Citrus will come in Winter 2018, assuming how long it is taking and how they didn't specify the year. I would prefer it this way, so whatever studio that is working on it can put quality into the animation and art and music. NTR looks like a slideshow of the manga panels but at least the soundtrack manages to convey the same soul as the manga, so there is a positive there. Kase-san does look like a cute manga, I will probably read when I buy the volumes, I think 1 and 2 are out right? I think a 2 hour movie (maybe 2hr and 30 min), by Kyoto Animation would work pretty well as both an adaptation and a stand alone film. I think the pacing would be consistent and the story intact. There is no clear ending point when you read the manga, so I don't think doing episodes is the best idea, each chapter has it's own contained message, but there isn't enough content and context to drag through each week. Girl Friends got popular (relatively) after it released for a reason, and that's because it needs the whole story to make sense, or to make an impact. |
