This was probably the most tragic episode of the series so far. I can't recall all the previous episodes to know for sure, but it was a very poignant and personal episode for Hitomi either way. Teaming up with Mac, a random sailor, to help find his girlfriend and a lost gem. Seeing Cathy deceive, use and ultimately murder poor Mac for effectively the thrill of it understandably riled Hitomi up.

Even without the show pointing it out explicitly, which it did, the parallel between Cathy's relationship with Mac and Hitomi's own with Toshi certainly must have left her unsettled.

Of course, we know Hitomi's not like that, that she does love Toshi, but it's a reminder of that fine line she walks. And brings up interesting questions like the validity of Rui's claim that episodes like this where they help Toshi catch criminals somehow make up for all the items they've stolen on his watch. And of course what the end game of Hitomi's relationship with him really is and how it'll play out. But that's saved for another time. By the end of this one only this is certain: Mac is dead, and he died blissfully unaware that his love was nothing more than a lie...tragic indeed.

It was a good episode, but felt a bit rush with Mac and Cathy. So that Cathy was fake all along and the real Cathy is just the Ship/Hawaii itself?

It is an interesting point that Hitomi got. Despite what she is doing for her father's whereabouts and the collection. She's still technically "deceiving" Toshi by being the very own criminals that Toshi wants to bring down.

In any case, let's move on to the next one!!

damn. that ending was heavy. i really thought Mac was gonna be ok and everything was going to work out like it always does: the bad guys get caught or some other kind of punishment, any innocent people involved get avenged, Cat's Eye gets the art piece they were out to get, and maybe Toshi makes an important arrest as a result hahaha. not this time.

also the parallels between Mac and Cathy's relationship and Hitomi and Toshi's relationship brought up some tough stuff to think about. when i started watching Cat's Eye, i couldn't tell if Hitomi had any real feelings for Toshi or if she was just totally using him to get inside information. but once i saw that Hitomi does care about Toshi, i knew i was gonna keep watching (it's my favorite part of the show); if Hitomi was just using Toshi and had no feelings for him, i wouldn't have made it this far.

on the one hand, i can see where Hitomi is coming from: she has something important she needs to do. plus she didn't start dating Toshi because he wanted to become a police officer, Toshi chose to become a police office for his own reasons in the middle of their relationship much to Hitomi's surprise. but then there's Toshi's side of things...... he pretty much laid it all out to Hitomi in the cafe. if Toshi ever does discover the truth about Hitomi and her sisters, i can't see it going any other way except him feeling used and betrayed. how can a relationship continue after that? Hitomi's going to explain herself to Toshi and he's just gonna get it and accept everything that's happened? i dunno about that. hahaha that's why sometimes i want Cat's Eye to accomplish their goal, never get caught, stop stealing because they don't need to do it anymore, and Toshi never finds out who they actually are so they can all live happy regular lives afterwards. hahaha i know it's the super safe route, but damn it! i really want them all to be happy together! is it gonna work out like that? we're gonna find out. but that the story would go this way in this episode worries me.
