So true then they start one of the dozen posts a week about how ecchi is ruining anime or is there too much ecchi blah blah blah lol
@Maverick-sama &
@Vetral While I admit the post is very attention seeking now that I look back at it, is it not a bit ignorant to assume that I hate the ecchi or harem genres because of a single post?
To be honest I quite enjoy the genres, the problem in my opinion is the fact that they are rarely ever done well. You could also say it is quite ignorant for me to expect something different when the current 'formula' for harem + ecchi works (i.e. gets the attention and enjoyment of most of the audience it is targeted to) and as a famous saying once went "if it ain't broke don't fix it".
However if I were to completely ignore ecchi + harem genres I would miss out on some gems such as
Abnormal-kei Joshi as well as the monogatari franchise which I very much enjoyed. In fact without ecchi in the monogatari franchise I think it would not have been as enjoyable as it is. Although you could say monogatari isn't marked as either ecchi or harem I would argue that it fits into both categories and the harem elements are even mentioned by one of the characters in the show.
Unlike some people who may insist "ecchi is ruining anime", I just take a negative biased stand point towards the genre as most ecchi shows in my view focus on the ecchi part too much rather than constructing an interesting plot line. At least I will watch the show and if it feels too stereotypical or tropey then i'll drop it. If I recall correctly I don't see how me giving
x show a bad rating after a few episodes affects the overall rating as the overall rating only counts ratings after a certain episode point which I obviously would not have passed.
Also I don't recall ever writing "dozen posts a week about how ecchi is ruining anime or is there too much ecchi blah blah blah" nor to I recall ever giving a review to a show, especially not one that I have dropped. If I haven't even finished the show how am I supposed to give a proper review of it?
Either way this seems like the type of show I'd watch one episode and drop but I wouldn't know that until I actually watch the show right? Who knows if they added a twist to the generic ecchi harem (which I highly doubt but I can always dream right?).
