I have this book actually, its been translated into english (Tokyo Ghoul: Days).

Coming out soon is a second novel Tokyo Ghoul: Void (into English, that is).

I obviously can't speak for everyone, but the gist of my reasons for liking (most of) it is because we get a look into the everyday struggles and thoughts of some secondary characters or characters completely outside the main story. The stories in the first volume mostly cover ghoul-human relationships in some form and I found it really interesting how different each one handles their respective problems. I don't do reviews so I'm not going to explain every point I liked and disliked in detail, but for a collection of side stories set in the Tokyo Ghoul universe, I thought it was pretty good.

That explanation good enough?

The first book "days" is alright, I'd say it would do a lot better with fans of the manga (although my mom who knows nothing of anime or manga really enjoyed one of the stories) because it world builds and tells stories of main characters through the eyes of people who live in that world. Void is the much better entry because now that characters are introduced an overall story can be told. It's not just the story in void that's well done it's the pulp fiction style that they did it in that makes void interesting. (Spoiler) The first story tells you a story about an 18 year old case and through the story it gets about 75% solved and the rest of the book solves the case through stories of characters that have no idea they are involved in the case.

I'm currently reading void and it's actually pretty well done. The air of mystery and suspense from the manga is here, albeit in a more detailed, expository way. It brings you farther into their psyche, their thought processes, and daily lives. I'd read it after the raid and before they go to Kano's secret lab. It's worth the 10$.

I managed to get all theee novels at one luckily. Currently reading the first one.

As novels go, it is rather basic. But so far it's a nice expansion on the TG world.
