One of my favourite thing about YKK is the world its set in. Places like Cafe Alpha, Aqua or the city from Kiki's Delivery Service are one of the main reasons I love watching anime. Often times I find that I wish I could be magically transported into one of these simpler worlds where there is a bit more desolation, isolation and ultimately more spacious greenery. Though it seems like it could be lonely in such a place I can't help but feel like I'd be suited to such a life and often wish for nothing more than a place of my own.

Having said all that, does anyone else feel the same? And, more importantly, has anyone found a place that reminded them or Cafe Alpha or the world they reside in? A place that was special and 'just for them' in a way?

I haven't found any place outside my head, so I just laze around inside there and sleep alot. Seems to be just as effective. :3

i sure do

i think seaside towns usually have that feeling, especially ones that were built up in the mid-20th century or earlier as opposed to more recently

You took the words right out of my mouth. The locations in YKK, Aria, and Kiki's Delivery Service happen to be the exact ones that strongly impacted me. Koriko from Kiki's Delivery Service especially. In fact, I've made it a goal of mine to live in such a place.

I agree. The setting of YKK, as described by the OP, is key. It may especially appeal to introverts. It may especially appeal to people of all types who, for whatever reason, don't want to live at the modern pace. I bet one of the main attractions of this great manga when it was originally published was that it offered over-stressed Tokyo-ites an imaginary refuge from that gigantic city.

I'm an old man now living in a middle-sized American city, and the best thing I remember from my childhood was living in the country and taking very long walks through the pretty, and almost empty, countryside all aroud where my house was.

I'm still a relatively young woman, but I feel the same way. Perhaps it is just the nostalgia of youth, but I really miss feeling those wide open spaces and small seaside towns from my childhood.
