...but how is this season compared to the original?

anyone who saw the first one, is it worth watching?

the synopses seem similar.

It's worth, but if you can't endure watching horrible animation, don't watch the previous one.

I would disagree. Especially animation-wise as the first series wasn't so bad with it, while this series had pretty much fuck all to animate aside from bath scenes.

Now if I were to really compare the 2 series, I would mention that I'm a big fan of the first one and only following the second one in hope of more cameos of the old characters. Reason is, in the new series they spent about 13 episodes just introducing characters who at this point can all, with perhaps the exception of Kuon, be summed up in 1 word: a girl with a dumb accent, a fujoshi, that general's little sister and some other girls I honestly can't even remember. In my opinion, if your characterisation stops at just giving your characters a cliche gimmick and no depth whatsoever, you fail as an author. The directing is even worse so don't get me started on that.

Now what the first series had to offer were interesting characters, each with their motivations and agenda, a story that hooks you in, although, you could argue it got weird towards the end (which was explained a lot better in the game but it's no excuse for the anime, really) and action that wouldn't stop longer than 1 episode, by when you can really appreciate a lighter tone as well.

So, what I mean is, if a slife of life show, with gratuitous amounts of fan service , with a completely unlikable, lazy MC, who never does anything, is your thing, the first series is probably not for you.

I didn't mention its story. Just the old-animation style and repetitive scenes.

I know that. I only added on things other than the animation since the op asked to compare the series :)

Look at statements made by people who have not played the games as something people full of nostalgia would say.

The first anime had a lot more frantic and incoherent plot due to adapting a visualnovel twice as long into same amount of episodes as itsuwari. As a result the pacing is beyond awful(going at breakneck pacing and then suddenly stopping for two episodes of the cast playing in the garden) a lot of crucial information is skipped and the worst girl in the series, Eruru, is stuffed into every single plotline even if she had no fucking business to be there.

The first show adapted the "basic" story well enough, but treated the rest of the cast like shit. And skipped most of the main character's backstory. Evert character not named Erurshit(who got wanked to no end despite having no personality) gets treated like a sidestory(which already created plotholes for Itsuwari). Which resulted into the last confrontation (and the last few episodes) being extremely hard to comprehend without outside info.

So while UTWR1 will enrich the experience of watching this and add lot of depth into the first half(a lot of decisions or scenes will be seen in new light), expect to have A LOOOT of questions.

Well, Uta1 isn't exactly fresh in my mind so you might be right about some things such as Eruruu being annoying as hell at some times but I wouldn't agree that the rest of the cast got shafted. It did suffer from some pacing issues due to the massive amount of content they needed to squeeze into a 2 cour show but I can only look forward to Uta2 pacing issues in the second half thanks to them outright wasting at least 10 episodes on absolutely fuck all. Might as well have done a class introduction kind of thing like "Hi, I'm a princess of some sort. I like fucking YAOI. Also, I have a bird with more fucking character than me" and then cut about 8 episodes from the show. Imagine all the money saved there from not having to animate another 10 bath scenes.

Just to be clear, I really want to like Uta2 but I just can't bring myself to. I don't think I'm blindly hating on it either

To be fair people are judging it by the anime since well the anime should be judge by its own merit not soly what its taking an adaption from. Now you can hate how they adapted it,but thats another discussion entirely.

Problems are seen even without the VN considering the pacing.
The problem with people judging it is nostalgia - most of people claiming it was omg so great and better than this have seen it YEARS ago. And have no idea the problems the changes in it create for itsuwari.

The first Uta was really rushed; this one is the opposite. In the first 13 episodes nothing really happens at all.
I'm personally struggling to even remember which girl is which; as another poster said, outside of their gimmicks there's not really much to the side characters at all.

I found it quite fun at first; I didn't mind that there wasn't any plot or story because the episodes were fun and they were at least moving and travelling. But once they get to the city it becomes a little stagnant. The plot is still nonexistant but there isn't even the idea of progressing because they don't go to any new places.

It's also quite lacking in blood in battle scenes. This is a shame because the original Uta had a fair amount.

Outside of a few previous characters making an appearance, so far there's not really been any major need to have seen the first one to understand the second either.
It's an entirely different kind of flying, altogether!

I'm watching both series right now. Four Faces has more girls, like a harem anime, but they really don't pursue him like the girls would pursue a MC in a harem anime, except for the twins, who are obligated to serve him. Four Faces doesn't seem to have as much conflict as the first series, where there was the rebellion and the invading army in the first 10 episodes or so, so series one would have a little more action from the start. One element that the do have in common for sure, the MC pulling the female's tail, which causes her to freak out, and the mysterious MC discovered and in need by that same girl.

I could say the same thing for H1. Most of the characters are made to make him look better. He also had very little reason to participate. The whole point of H2's slice of life was to use the very basic technique, the call to adventure, by attempting to destroy his slice of life with 1D girls. Both H's had very little to go on, and if you analyse the characters, they are both very weak. I guess the only reason why is because it's easier for the writers? As Fai said, too many asspulls.

I like them both but Hakuoro is by far a more strong character, in the beginning of the first uta he was already a calm guy with a natural tendence to leadership, he start the history without any memory and yet don't seem afraid to take the lead in most part of the situations.. he seems to be more like a paternal figure taking care of everyone and becoming the leader of tsukuru, while haku still just...lazy.

Totally agreed, Hakuoro is way better for me, he was an amazing leader who led his people to many victories, I'm wishing to see him in this anime but it seems like they won't even show him once :(
Still Haku isn't bad but... he's too lazy lol.
