| Hello fellows, I've had a few request from friends for anime that have realistic training or competitive nature as it's focus (little or no love story or other focus'). These guys love the underdog realistic training to be the best motif in their anime, so I wanted to know what are your favorite animes that go along these lines. I have suggested they watch: 1)Hikaru no go 2)Hajime no ippo 3)Initial D 4)Battle athletes (didn't go over well) 5)Grappler Baki 6)shootfighter tekken 7)Slam dunk. These were the best most interesting shows I could come up with to keep people with a low knowledge of anime to keep going and watching new things. What would you pick (yes, Cav9 will pick prince of Tennis...what else is new)? |
| That's a tough order to fill considering you already posted most of the shows I would've thought up as first choices like Initial D and Hikaru no Go. Only other ones that come immediately to mind are Touch and Shion no Ou. Touch might have to be called out of the running since love is also a big focus along with the baseball. Shion no Ou might also be a harder sell since the focus is pretty much half murder mystery and half shogi. Plus the animation in that one varies widely in some episodes. Perhaps Over Drive can work? xacess will have to let you know how much focus is placed on training/competitiveness in that one though since I've never watched it. Another one that might be worth looking into is Major. There's currently 5 seasons for it. Season one starts with the protagonist in the little leagues and each subsequent season follows as he grows older through high school and professional leagues. Unfortunately that's another one I haven't watched so I can't give you much info beyond a basic synopsis. |
