I will post the first riddle:
A truck driver is driving 60 miles/hour
When he saw an old lady cross the road, he instantly hit the brakes just in time.
The moon wasn't shining and his lights weren't on. How did the driver see the lady?

Romeo and Julia are lying on the ground in a puddle of water.
They died due to dehydration.
They are in a room.
Around them are glass splinters lying around.
There is a strong windstorm outside and a window is open.
What happened and how did it happen?

Ok then, here's a not-so-easy one:

logic said:
There are three switches downstairs. Each corresponds to one of the three light bulbs in the attic. You can turn the switches on and off and leave them in any position.
How would you identify which switch corresponds to which light bulb, if you are only allowed one trip upstairs?

Nah, yours is easy. I think I am going to love this game.

You turn on the first light for a little bit of time, enough for the bulb to get warm. Then turn it off. Turn on the second light and then go upstairs. The light that is on corresponds to the second switch. The warm light bulb corresponds ot the first switch. the remaining light bulb corresponds to the final switch.

This is a famous lateral thinking puzzle.

A man who lives on the tenth floor takes the elevator down to the first floor every morning and goes to work. In the evening, when he comes back; on a rainy day, or if there are other people in the elevator, he goes to his floor directly. Otherwise, he goes to the seventh floor and walks up three flights of stairs to his apartment.
Can you explain why?

So I googled elevator panels to check if my thought process was right (not sure if that's ok). I guess he's short since he's an adult not a child. If there are people in the elevator they can push the button for him, otherwise he has to push the button to the 7th floor because that's the highest he can reach or jump to.

Well, I wasn't sure if the panels were high enough, he'd have to be really short not to reach the 10 floor.

Anyhow here's the puzzle:
Chess said:

The Queen and Alice traveled across the chessboard dashing

Starting on any square.. and if every next moves are farther than
the previous ones, how many squares shall they visit?

Alice isn't a chess piece o.O? How does it move? If they are dashing, does that mean they move diagonally to an adjacent square or?

ps. I really liked the answer to the one with Romeo and Juliet :P (very clever) - I allready knew the 2 other riddles..

It's a reference to "Through the Looking-Glass" (Part 2 of Alice in Wonderland); there's a giant chessboard and they're all chess pieces instead of cards. (red and white since the queen of hearts is red not black)

Anyhow, the movement of Alice and the queen doesn't have to be legal (i.e they don't have to move like a queen in a chess game).

Conditions are:
1) Dashing from square to square without returning to the visited squares.
2) Starting on any square.
3) Every next move is farther than all the previous ones.

If it was a logical puzzle I would give it a try but there is too much game of words here and it makes it hard for me.

riddle said:
3) Every next move is farther than all the previous ones.
I am not sure:

1. How is the distance between squares defined? I assume it is one of those:
a) the min number of moves it will take a King to reach from the one square to the other.
b) the min number of moves it will take a king to reach from the one square to the other without using diagonal moves.
c) the distance between the centers of the squares.

So if we have two diagonally adjacent squares I am not sure if the distance between them is equal to:
a) 1. b) 2. c) sqrt(2)

2. Also I am not sure what "farther away means". does it mean that each move must be farther than the starting position, or that each move must longer in distance compared to the previous move?

It will be nice if someone who has read Alice in Wonderland can help about those.

No matter how I interpret the puzzle, I can't see a interpretation that accepts more than 34 squares.

I have two theories, the first implies a solution of 13 (or 14 counting the initial square) squares explored, the second implies a solution of 32 (or 33 counting the initial square) squares explored. The first implies outlining the chessboard, while the second is purely theoretical, I'd try to make a route for it if I had access to a chessboard right now, which I unfortunately don't.

This puzzle seems quite unfair to be posted in a thread like this honestly, I'd expect puzzles that are more accessible to the general public rather than chess puzzles. If I weren't familiar with those, I would have been unable to approach this puzzle entirely.

Anyway, if my two theories above are wrong, I already have a third one that implies ten squares explored

I wouldn't classify this as a "chess puzzle". I consider "find best move" "check mate in x" or something like this as a chess puzzle. This puzzle only requires the most basic chess knowledge so I see no reason why can't it be here. Even if one doesn't play chess at all I guess he would know how the chess board looks like and how the queen moves.

I also do not see why they cannot stand on all 64. If they are dashing past each other then it is possible to weave along the entire board without sharing a square. I can also see how it is 57. Assuming they cannot share a square next to each other that would cut every other weaving exchange piece.

If they can only play on certain colors it would minimize the number even more...

Let's see the outcome then. For instance, there are several people here suggesting solutions bigger than 34, and as I said before, considering the amount of movements that one could do between two squares, I can't see it being bigger than that.

There are 64 titles.
Each step should be increasing.
Like 1,2,3,
I considered this because in a chess game, both diagonal and moving forward is considered as one step. Also no one said that we can't move backwards(illegal moves).
They will visit 55 squares.
10*11/2

If you include the tile they were standing its 56.

I was thinking about this last night in bed. Wasn't Louis Carol interested in multiple chess board puzzles? So does this question be answered with only one chess board?

If they are moving separately, the answer is 63.
