Indeed. And not just him but pretty much every major character in the series

Death Note, apart from the over-hype, also had an amazing performance by Light's VA. He really "dressed the character"

Baccano! with Issac, Miria, Jacuzzi etc..

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. In both Rena and Shion's VA

Hirano Aya FTW.
I really loved how she did the voice for Izumi Konata from Lucky Star, especially the part where she switch her style of speaking back & forth from Konata to Suzumiya Haruhi in one episode >_<

For me, it's a three-way tie between Ouran High School Host Club, Death Note, and Haibane Renmei.

The Ouran cast created some of the most memorable performances I've heard in an anime. When I listened to this audio drama with the anime cast about half a year ago, I realized how much I missed listening to those seiyuu.

The Japanese version of Death Note got me into paying attention to performances in subbed versions of anime. I was so blown away by the last few episodes; it made me realize that seiyuu are more than just high-pitched mousy females and Barry White wannabes.

The subbed version of Haibane Renmei was the first anime I watched where the voice acting was treated more like regular acting. There weren't any crazy voices in this one. The actors gave each character a sense of warmth and human emotion.

Maison Ikkoku - Sumi Shimamoto (and just about anything she has a voice in too)
