I watched the first episode and found it moderately interesting. The character introduction part was slightly annoying. Now, here's some things you should know:

1 - I dislike the magical girl genre.
2 - I dislike the fact that the main characters appear to be preteens.

For #2, it's mostly the fact that I prefer main characters that are both mentally/emotionally and physically mature, since I relate better to those. Characters that would be emotionally or mentally immature don't appeal to me; characters that are mentally/emotionally mature but not physically mature hits my suspension of disbelief.

On the other hand, I've heard some good points about this series. Would you recommend it to me?

The series is really about Gundams in magical girl disguise -- after the first three episodes which are spent subverting many of the clichés of the Mahou Shoujo genre, it gets down to the real business which is high speed, high energy aerial combat with copious beamspam. Even the "collect the plot tokens to cash in for an ending" plotline gets resolved by the half-way point, when what's really going on gets revealed.

As for the character maturity -- Nanoha herself thinks and acts in an extremely grown up fashion; that she's supposed to be 9 years old is simply part of the genre. There is an in-story justification that you can string together for her precocious maturity, though, if you trace the character's first appearances in Triangle Hearts. Personally I didn't let that sort of thing bother me while I was watching her taking names and kicking derrière (but then almost all anime characters are youngsters as far as I'm concerned).

I don't think I'd recommend it if you dislike the magical girl genre. Though it feels like a mix of that and also some boring wannabe sci-fi stuff. xD

I've only watched this first season... people might like it more because of the other two, but I just considered the first one too boring to bother with the other two. ^^;;;

Edit: Just noticed the date this was posted, ahaha. Well, future reference for others? o__o;

I dislike mahou shoujo in general, but Nanoha rocks.

It's a good quick series (only 13 half-hour episodes) for a quick fix of (still, quite genuine) tear-jerkers and heartwarming moments.

I've thought before that 9-year-old Nanoha has the body of a 12-year-old and the mind of a 20-year-old, while 9-year-old Fate has the body of a 14-year-old and the mind of a 16-year-old. So if you're looking for something that won't badly wreck your willing suspension of disbelief, I'd lean against this.
