Jyu Oh Sei is a short 11 episode series that starts with the story of a boy named Thor and his twin brother Rai. After their parents are brutally murdered, both boys are abducted and dropped off on a prison planet called Chimera. Many questions surround their circumstances and the only way it would appear to get any answers is to become the 'Beast King' which is essentially the strongest ruler on the planet.

Before I started this series I was warned early on to expect 2 things. The first being that the pacing of this series is quick. Sure enough, as I kept watching I noticed how incredibly quick the story would progress. With only 11 episodes, not a lot of time is wasted. The second thing I was to expect was a particular scene between two of the characters in a later episode. Even knowing these two things beforehand I couldn't be drawn to this show.

What really killed it for me was the first expectation, the pacing. Even though I knew that the story wouldn't dabble too long on things I couldn't get into the flow of the series. Characters and plot points came and went quickly without much backstory or explanation to them. So while they could skip to what may have been deemed as important parts of the story, I just couldn't sympathize with much of what they were going through.

On the plus side, the animation was fine although I honestly can't remember much about the music outside of the catchy OP.

...even a saint needs a soldier to do the dirty work.

I am with Tainted on the hard to relate to the characters in such a fast pace and many of the other points that were brought up. His description is on the mark 100% for anyone seeking a short 11 episode sci-fi anime to watch. I personally enjoyed that for some really fast moments the main characters story was completed, even if it was at the cost of secondary or third tier character development, because heaven knows I would hate to watch ...lets say a 167 episode series (cough, cough..inuyasha) have so much time invested not to see a true ending with this series you get a ending, little confusing (might have to watch the last 2 eps over again) but an ending nonetheless.
