Background:
It's current day in Southern Indiana. Much the same time period in the rest of the world I would guess. Everyone who participates starts in their own house. You wake up and make your way into your living room. When you turn on the television, the default channel presents its station id logo, and a warning message advising you to turn to a news station. You switch it to CNN HeadLine News. The excitable news anchor looks to have been crying, and is obviously flustered. It's hard to follow the quickly passing dialogues, but you gather something about an infection, and cannibalism. As far as you can tell, it sounds just like a review of the most recent addition to the "Dead" series. After watching for a few more minutes, you realize that that's exactly what it is. Z-Day has come, and you're on your own. No other background information is given, because this is realism-based, and you would not have any definition as far as the extent of the outbreak, or how or why it happened. At some point, if the game continues for long enough, the setting will become post apocalyptic, but that'll be dealt with as a part of the gameplay. As far as the type of zombies we're dealing with here, it'll be a pretty basic concept. Think "Dawn of the Dead" or the normal infecteds from "Left 4 Dead." Base intelligence, mob mentality, etc. And the only way to kill the mfor good is by removing the head or destroying the brain.

Details:
Your parents are gone to work or running an errand, and any siblings or other family members you have in your house have gone out as well. Your objective is simply this: To survive until the ordeal is over. You may create a set of personal sub-objectives, such as any key points you would like to aim for in your contingency plan. For participation in the game you won't need to create a character sheet, because this is a realism-based game, so you will be you. You will be alotted ten items of your choosing to carry. All of the items on this list MUST be things actually available in your home. And you must be actually capable of carrying/transporting these items. Please don't lie about it, because that takes the realism element out of the game, so it'll be less fun. ONE of these items may be a bag of some sort which will be allowed to contain up to FIVE additional items that would realistically fit in the bag. Inventories can be altered in gameplay as other items become available. Keep in mind that these items would have to become available realistically. I will let you know when other items have become available to you, and you must make the decision as to what Item you're going to drop to acquire the new one. This also means that the item that is dropped will be in that spot on the ground. Meaning other people could pick it up, if they were ever at the place. Each of the participants will also be allowed two key personality traits that they will have the opportunity to enhance as a result of consistant gameplay. These can be things such as First-Aid/CPR, lock-picking, proficiency with weapons, etc. The catch to that is, these two things must be traits that you ACTUALLY possess. If that means you have to go and study lock picking for an hour or so before posting, then do it. Again, this is all about realism. The only other requirement will be that you have a game-plan. I don't care if this is something you make up on the spot, or something you have pre-planned, like me. [Yes, I really have one. Fully detailed, and written out, complete with measurements and other diagrams.] If this is picked-up, obviously I'll post a demo page so you can see how all of the elements are supposed to be presented. Keep in mind that any reference to the other people involved must be agreed upon in advance, and be realistic. For instance, I live a few blocks away from Sean, so I can make my way to his house, but I have no idea where Bush lives, so I can't just say that I walked to his house. And try to avoid everyone clumping into one group, because the game only has one path, where as there need to be several. You are allowedup to six people in your group, and that includes secondary characters, for example girlfriends. I live two houses down from Kami, and she would be my first stop. So I would have to add her to my group. Also animals would be included. They would count as a member of your group if they're large, like a guard dog. If they were small, they would count as an item in your inventory. Also, if two players get together in a group, the group is still limited to the same number of characters. For example, if Sean is in my group, then the group can still only be Sean, me, and four other characters.

Time Period: The morning of the day after the game starts [Thursday June 25th]. Whatever time you normally wake up. Ending whenever the infection is over, in which case the post-apocalyptic storyline would begin. OR ending when we're all dead...

The beginning:
Since we don't have character sheets for this game, your first post needs to be your contingency plan. Make sure it's fully detailed, and that all of your ends are tied up. If you have other people in your group, make sure they would actually go with you, especially if that other person is a player. Make sure you have an objective, which includes a final place that you're planning on staying to stick-out the events, or, if you're planning on staying on the run, then make sure it fits in realistically. By fully detailed, I simply mean that you need to make sure you have everything worked out. And it's a contingency plan, which means you have to have a places where flexibility is allowed. Like, if your original plan for a certain section or event doesn't work, you have to have a plan b, and so-on. Other than that, you must have your inventory completely worked out ahead of time as well.

Here's something like an example:

[Name]
...Duh. Just say, My name is [T.] or whatever.

[Approximate place of residence]
Like, I would say that "I live on the North Western side of Mt. Vernon." Or I could say "I live a few blocks behind the school, near IGA."

[Contingency Plan]
This wil be your plan, obviously

[Objective]
The place you plan to end up, and how you plan to survive while you're there. Or, if you plan on staying on the run, then you have to explain it realistically, including how you plan on getting food, supplies, etc.

[Inventory]
Your inventory will be posted at the beginning of EVERY ONE of your posts. List the items 1 through 10. And if one of those things was a bag, then you would need sub letters. Example below:
1.Bag
1a.
1b.
1c.
1d.
1e.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
9.
10.

NOTE: DO NOT AUGMENT THE INVENTORY!!!! You are given ten initial slots, with the opportunity to have fifteen. This is a game, if you need more than fifteen slots, then you're going to have to leave somehting behind!

[Party Members]
The members of your party will be at the beginning of EVERY ONE of your posts. Obviously, at the beginning it will just be you, and maybe a large pet. Just like the inventory, list the Members of your party from 1 to 6. Leaving any numbers you're not using open, like below:
1.Myself
2.Kami
3.Sean
4.
5.
6.

[Your two chosen abilities]
Your abilities will be shown at the beginning of EVERY ONE of your posts. Also, when you list them for the first time, on your introduction sheet, you must tell how you know about those things. I will allow similar things to be combined. Example below:
1.CPR/First Aid-- Health Class
2. __________--____________

:end of intro example:

And remember, this is a realism based RPG, which means everything you do has to make sense in the real world. Just because you can see another characters inventory and skills on their posts, doesn't mean that game you knows these things. Which leaves the option open for other people to lie to you and whatnot.
Just keep realism in mind

I know this is a long intro, but, seeing as how this one is different, I wanted to effectively communicate all of the points I had worked out. That being said, Have Fun!

Try again.

Figure out how to describe where you live. I don't care if you have to look at a map. Make a DETAILED plan. Including steps and a real objective. If you don't know where you're going to stay, then don't post anything until you figure that out. And NOTHING in the description says you can alter items to carry other items, unless you use one of slots for a BAG which can carry FIVE additional items. And, if you look, it say the items have to be things YOU CAN CARRY. I know not having a car is a bit of a hinderance, but those are the rules. The gameplay will be better if you're on foot. And you can't go changing the rules to fit your needs. People DO NOT count as items. Ever. And how is "good physique" a skill or ability?

Make a new post, with the correct information, and follow the rules.

Westridge Dr. Which is on the far east side of town across from the old Ford place and beside the country club. It's a house with a basement and attic, which is probably where I would stay for a little while. The garage is the most secure area and the rest of the house not so much, very unsecure. Too many windows for one thing.

Plan: Try not to get too involved in a group of people, at the absolute most have three other people with me, no more ... unless it's a really hot chick. Find some sort of transportation other than walking and get out of the cities into the country as much as possible. The less crowded it was at the beginning the better. Try not to stay in one place for any longer than twelve hours and probably try to make it to a large body of water where they're likely to only attack us from one front. (Such as Lake Michigan or the sea.)

Keep moving as much as possible, only stopping and towns and such to raid supermarkets and take as much as I'm physically able. Start off with some spam and Ramen, and I have a Coleman stove with some white gas on which to cook my food. Basically, think backpacking. Oh also, water purification handheld unit ... or is that too much to start off with? It'll be in my items and if it's too much tell me, although I do actually own all that stuff.

1. Backpack
1a. Personal tent
1b. Coleman Stove
1c. White Gas
1d. Spam
1e. Handheld Water Purification Unit
2. Clothes (T-shirt, jeans, hoodie)
3. Leatherman
4. Matches & Lighter
5. Personal First Aid Kit
6. Painkillers (Various sorts)
7. 1 Liter Water Bottle
8. 1 Liter Water Bottle
9. Crowbar
10.
(And yes, I really do have all that stuff at my house.)

Outdoorsmanship -- BSA & Wilderness Survival Class
First Aid/CPR/AED/Professional Rescuer -- Lifeguard/WSI Training

Nice post Matt. Here are some things to keep in mind:

If you're going to be moving from place to place, you'll have to know where it is that you're going to be staying when you get there. For example, you can't just say something like "I walked for a while and found a house." If you have to, use google maps, and say something like "I turned into the cul-de-sac on my left, and went to last house on that side of the lane division. It was a small brick house with a sturdy fence around the back yard."

If you're going to go to somewhere with water, like you were describing, keep in mind that places near large bodies of water are often very densely populated. I understand the benefit of having your back to water, but I'm not sure you'd be able to handle that quantity of attacks.

I also understand the benefit of travelling in a small group, though the saying "strength in numbers" comes to mind.

And your inventory is fine. As long as you actually own all of that stuff, then there's no reason that you can't have it. Keep in mind, though, that if you have a completely full inventory at the start of the game, you'll have to drop stuff to pick anything new up.

:None of these things are problematic. You can very easily stay just as you are now. I just thought I'd point out some of the things I noticed.

Pretty good. There are a few problem areas though; You did the same thing Bush did and augmented the inventory. Please refrain from doing this. I know it's unreasonable to think that you wouldn't have anything in your pockets, but the inventory slots you're given are to be assumed as reasonable places to keep things. Such as pockets. If ten isn't enough, that's why the bag is there. And if 15 isn't enough, then leave something behind.
Also, your plan isn't detailed enough. I understand what you're saying, but the specifics aren't there. Look at Matt's post for an example of an acceptable plan.

Other than that, it looks like you're on the right track, though I think we're going ot have to push the date back because nobody is reall yon board here.

Maybe you could try a rewards system of sorts in which you get more space for things as the game progresses. Sort of like Dead Rising. Because that really seems to be the biggest problem everyone's having with this RP so far. Maybe after a certain point people get larger bags or whatnot. Just a suggestion.

Nice going Matt. You spoiled the surprise.

YES. Inventory can be expanded. As can party members. And skill slots.

How?
You'll know when you do it.
