THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Okay, so the ending was a let down.

It did have some good stuff: i liked Lyle cutting Meria in half that was nutzo, and it did have that cool giant fight. But, mostly I felt disappointed that Lyle kind of stole the show during the climax. Lyle was the weakest character in the group, and our heroes here end up playing girl so that ol' Tenchi Muyo everyguy can save the day.

I don't really understand what happened here. I didn't think this was that kind of anime.

7. This was a very fun OVA, and it commands all the components which make an anime fun and loveable pretty well. But, it isn't anything especially original and given it's botched finale, I can't give it a higher score.

Not a bad wrap up: good action scenes interspersed with more talkative scenes. I guess the main problem is the OVA didn't have enough episodes, so there can't be a strong build-up for a climactic conclusion. But I'm not disappointed, episodes 1-3 were pretty fun (classic fansasy dungeon raiding then training), and episode 4 portrayed Lyle's feelings well, in particular with the nightmare and the Meria sequences. The moment about Ruguduru's memories was also a nice addition.

Overall Fam and Iirii were endearing, same thing for Rasha/Miguel. The 90s fantasay anime have such a specific vibe, at the same time light-hearted and serious but most importantly they have this art that still looked like some guy drew it and he had fun doing it . It reminds me of how manga originally meant "loose drawing", a meaning that seems quite remote from the concerns of today's industry. I regret there aren't more anime like that, both then and now.

A nice comfy OVA. Adored the character designs (they had a lot of expressiveness and were a little messy) and voice acting, Ihrie and Rasha were great. Really didn't care too much about Lyle and his story, but the buildup was fun. Not enough ruin exploring. The way the party assembles together is pretty cute.

I really did love this OVA, but I too was a bit disappointed by the ending. I mean its great lyle got his vengeance and all but what about the ultimate power? they could've added an end scene of everyone getting their wish or giving the 1 wish to Ihrie so she could be free of the curse to make for a slightly better ending.

beyond that the anime was awesome I wished it coulda been made into a 26-52 episode series like Slayers it really did have the potential to be entertaining for several hours and be entertaining the whole way.

Lyle really ruined this anime, from a humoristic DnD lookalike with a 90s cool attitude to a semi-serious standarized 90s fantasy mediocrity.

I want to play an old school fantasy RPG now lol

this is pretty good, like a discount Record of Lodoss War or Slayers - though I liked it much better than Lodoss War! This is another one of those anime that seems to be based on a serialization of a D&D campaign- this one is from Hobby Japan, whom you may know as the creator of such fine anime as Queen's Blade and Queen's Blade Rebellion.

There is a balance of dysfunctional party humor with serious business. Instead of an elf, we have a catgirl, which is a real improvement to the typical fantasy formula. We also have an ojousama laugh sorceress...

I think that it could paid more attention to the motivations of Ihrie by the end of the anime, who becomes sidelined after the quest for the ultimate treasure merges with the Lyle subquest to defeat Rasputin Ruguderol- her motivations to undo the curse for example, are not mentioned at the end like Lina Inverse would have - 'now how am I going to undo the curse?' and mention some other magical treasure item to quest for. The self-motivation that was established in episode 1 is not there anymore.

MyLonesomeCowboy and MichaelJackson hit the nail on the head; too much attention given to Lyle, who ends up taking over.

While certainly not being totally run-of-the-mill, (Ihrie's curse is quite unique, as well as being a spellsword class), I feel like the characters didn't reach out and grab me the way Lina, Amelia and Naga do, which may be partly because there are fewer episodes and less time is spent with the Ruin Explorers characters, the way the anime is constructed, or their personalities not clicking with me.

Ngl this felt dated. I wonder how similar this is to Slayer which I also ptw in the future

Fam and Ihrie were likeable, the rest were too undeveloped but not surprising considering the episode count.

Didn't really like when the story shifted focus to Lyle considering he was the weakest character in this but it is what it is.

Okay watch for something this short, but I've seen anime of the same length that I've liked much more than this.

Reminded me of 'Slayers' with the animation.
Sort of felt like one piece of a bigger picture, problem being there is no more and never will. Shame! I enjoyed what i watched.
Did not enjoy the Romance part, although it was played for laughs.

The ending was a bit on the "That's it?" side of things. I did enjoy the fighting scenes though

I did enjoyed this OVA. But I hoped for more Ruin exploring than the whole grand mission of acquiring Ultimate power.
