THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
At times, such as during the flashback at the beginning of this episode, I momentarily get the feeling that this series is actually a black comedy from Shaft in disguise. Then I get to the formulaic ending of the episode and I become once again convinced that this is really just a routine pot-boiler thriller.

Only TWO Episodes Left!!!

Seems like way to much left to cram into 2 episodes.

At least we learned a bit of something.

Man, sucks for Pantsu to die like that. First time he went outside in such a long time and he gets ran over. I wonder what Ohsugi and the others will do once they meet up with Akira.

Pantsu!!! Pity that brilliant-minded guy like him has to die like that. But this kinda tells all the shut-ins not to step out of their room or else something really bad will happen to them XD

It's great to know that Takizawa's not the real culprit behind the missle attacks.. But why does he still want to erase his memories? I guess that must be related to what Pantsu wanted to warn him about but Pantsu got himself killed during the process :(

Seems like they still have lots to cover.. In addition to the other Selecaos yet to be revealed... I seriously hope that they'll not push all the juicy stuffs and action to the movie. I'll die waiting for the movie :S

2 episodes left. There's still a good amount of things left unsolved, so I wonder what's gonna happen next, and how this is all going to end.

Good amount of developments here, too. Mostly about what happened in the past.

I'm surprised everyone is wondering about how they will finish it now. If anything, this episode really cleared up for me how they will make this series work in 11 episodes. Using the usual strategy of non full 26 episode series: namely, not giving in to the poisonous desire to explain every little thing. The series will probably go out focusing on stopping X from his next attacks. Won't even attempt to touch all 12 selecao or some of the deeper concepts involved with this whole scheme, which yeah, will come after the series.

i'm suprised people think the ending will be rushed, don't forget this series will end with a movie meaning we still have the length of like 5 or more episodes for it. (depending on how long the movie will be and my guess it will be an hour and a half or more longer).

Great episode as usual, wish there was more quality series like this these days but sadly there is not. It is interesting to see how the story is playing out, it's like the main character is a hero but not also a hero. And it sure is confusing. It's good to see more selecao coming in, i wonder if all the living ones will show up in the end. Also sucks Pantsu had to die though i guessed they were going to kill him.

Poor Pantsu, I was really liking the character. :(

Great episode, we had a good look on the past, especially on careless monday. I wonder what Pantsu tried to tell Akira: was it only the source of the attacks, or something else?
We have 2 new Seleçao, although I can't really tell whether they are allies or X just uses the other one, their relationship looks quite one-sided.

Only thing: now Akira has a meaning, so it looks like the "search myself" phase is over or stalled. I liked the mood of this 9 episodes, and I'm afraid it might turn into some action mobile phone battle royale noe... I'd surely like something like that, but... We'll se the next 2 episodes. :)

The movie might as well end being a re-run.
Also, we are not 5 episodes till the series ends, but 2.

well i meant as in length-wise if the movie ends it. I'm pretty sure the movie will end the series cause i don't think they can finish this in 2 episodes.

Interesting episode! Lots and lots of information was given to us: Akira isn't the one who created the attacks, but rather was the one was diverted the population into safe areas of the city. Which means that he knew about the attacks before-hand. That reason might be because he is the Supporter, and that entitled him to have extra bits of information about the other Seleçaos... I'm just thinking out loud here... And what about that new Seleçao hanging out with X? He seems to be the one who supposedly 'saved' the people from the missile attacks, but to my understanding, Akira was the hero there...

And why does this new Seleçao 'Yuuki' looks so much like Akira? Honestly, they look like if they're related... And he seems to be controlled by X, who only seems to partner with him for his money, because Yuuki seems like a weak-minded individual.

So which Seleçao created the missile attacks? Yuuki or X? Or I? And why does everybody think that Akira was the mastermind behind the attacks? The other Seleçaos would have followed the action with their phone histories, so what exactly happened? Did an exchange happen... between Akira and Yuuki? Could they have traded phones? I don't know, but their histories seems to be confused together...

Sucks that Pantsu had to die, paralyzed in a puddle... Pretty crappy way to perish... RIP Panties!

And we still don't know why Akira had all this weaponry in his Washington appartment... and why he stripped naked with a pistol and his phone... I think 1 was behind it, but why does the history shows that Akira was the one behind it? Why is the history so messed up?

Anywho, what do y'all think?

Damn nice episode. This series is definately the best of this season, even of this year probably.
I was relieved knowing Akira is not a criminal, he was a hero, so I guess he already won the "game". Or maybe he still needs to beat down the other Selecão.

And the movie might be the ending for this anime, just like Full Metal Alchemist, first season, and the Conqueror movie

The first thing that got into my mind when Akira was talking about that it has to be someone who's close to state power... is Rozen Aso, haha.

So sad for Pantsu that he got stuck in there. That secret hide-out of his is cool. Wish I had something like that in my closet, but I bet that it won't fit. Maybe Akira commanded for the missiles, but perhaps he was commanded to? Anyhow, the text of ''I'll kill you, Takizawa Akira'' didn't really surprise me. I'm more surprised that Pantsu knew that he'd die that day.

I actually liked this epsiode a lot. It was pretty straightforward, yet complicated enough to keep up the mystery. A lot of details finally got explained regarding Careless Monday that really needed to happen, plus more allusions to 9/11.

I think it's pretty clear at this point what the show is focused on: Akira piecing together his past and X as the antagonist. X has been around for a few episodes now, but with this, he really does step into the forefront for these few episodes.

I'm also wondering about this statement,.,.

but I'm kinda confused,.isn't the other seleçao with "Yuuki" is the seleçao 1 not seleçao 10,.,since if I recall correctly when seleçao 11 receive the resent activity of Akira they've shown seleçao 1 talking on the phone and that's the exact same person as the one with "Yuuki" (and in episode one they've also shown seleçao 1,.remember the ring that his wearing? its the same as the seleçao with "Yuuki",.,so I believe that the seleçao 10 is the one who is called "Yuuki",.,but if that so,.,the statement that "Yuuki" is supposed to be the one who "saved" the people from the attack doesn't make much more sense now,.,.

That's the way to kill a good secondary character ! A lot of studios should learn from Prod IG, and a lot of creators from Kamiyama, not only from a purely technical and direction side, but also from a narrative and scenaristic point of view. This episode was just breathtaking, the introduction of the two new characters (although X has been here for quite some time now, but more on the background) was brilliant, and the existing characters' relationship is developping right, not counting the great (and not over-dramatic) suspense distilled throughout the series. Oh and of course, the themes are as visionnary as relevant to modern-day preoccupations and perfectly executed. I think that's what a masterpiece is all about.

Totally agree with you there (even though a movie represents a little less than 5 episodes, but let's say 4 at least), but you know, a lot of people don't trust Kamiyama and think he's some sort of rookie or forget what he's done before. He made one (or two depending on how you count it) of the best series of the last ten years (GITS:SAC and 2nd gig), can't you show him any respect and believe he will wrap Higashi no Eden in due time, entirely and perfectly (just like the first 9 episodes were till now) in the movie?

That cuckoo clock thing, for what I could see, applied to Pantsu only: so I suppose it applies to him now, too.

I think that little widget was a very small part of the system Pantsu built (can't remember its name right now): it's some kind of all-seeing-eye that calculates predictions/precentages on certain things, as we saw for the winning chance of a team on the championship. There are two options now: either the system somehow knew he died the moment he did (very unlikely, but still possible) because of some deivse Pantsu had with him, or Pantsu himself put the infos on what he was going to do (going out for the first time in years to bring extremely sensible data to a member of a dangerous congregacy of men with virtually infinite power, although uploading the logs somewhere), and the system calculated the chance of him dying and output it in that "user-friendly" way, as it was prompted...

I'm not sure, but the second one sounds plausible to me... :)

This episode had some nice bits of information but not enough imo. Like so many have already said it seems impossible to wrap up this series within 2 episodes and a movie without it feeling rushed. It seems like it would have been a much better run if the series had been 24 episodes at least... but I digress.

Although Pantsu's time was limited, it was greatly used to advance what was going on. It shows by a lot of people feeling bad about his death. Although it was limited to basically an episode, he gave great insight on what was going on, what the past of Akira held and what other Selaceo have been up to. Because of that it wasn't a waste of an episode or give too little information. Pantsu's death was also really well done. I like that he got ran over by the Selaceo and was able to transfer the data and overcome his NEETness to try and help out Akira. Which btw, the new Selaceo being shown with the other one looks a lot like Akira and might be why Akira's getting 5 different aliases on that picture Ohsugi submitted to Eden.

I'm interested to see what Ohsugi will do next and how the rest of the group will react and how it will all turn out seeing as it seems they're all getting ready go against Akira

As with most of this series, I continue to be entertained despite it failing to live up to the hopes episode 1 gave me.

But... I really couldn't stand Pantsu's death. I mean, to me at least, it seemed crystal clear he didn't have long for this world from the moment that our other Selecao announced they were tracking IX, and every event from there just built up the feeling in ways that honestly felt contrived. Tak thinks it's more important to continue his futile attempts at keeping up appearances with the girls than stick around and get revelations by the minute? Pantsu doesn't think it'd be easier to find the charger and use the phone while plugged in than run outside for a payphone? This super nerd doesn't have a basic program like Skype that lets him call a phone from his computer? His amazing society prediction program can't warn him that he's about to die?

The only way to interpret this that seems at all satisfying is going off the hero and dead message that he knew exactly what was going to happen and got killed outside to make sure they wouldn't come in. That's a pretty heavy assumption to make, though, so I'm disinclined to go with it.
