The finale was great, a bit short of excellent, but still great. In actuality Daisuke's brother Shun would of been either killed or tried and convicted to the fullest extent with no amnesty or plea bargain, but this is anime so that's why you gotta love it. Wish stronger romance would of developed between Daisuke and Kyoko, at least a nice kiss good bye at the end until his 3 year return. Umm, safe to say that Kenny will adopt Monica and cozy up with her mother as epilogue thoughts. Well it was a fun, riveting, fascinating and cool series. Would mind seeing a movie or a 3 part ova in the near future...who knows even a live action adaptation ;-) Well it was nice, but on to the next anime...(Good Bye) - FIN

And so it ends....poor J :(

Good lucky, my Heat Guy. Yup, the show is over. Glad J is back from the end there. 7/10 overall for this show. Nice ride.

It just confused me that he would leave. He never once said he had an interest to travel. just seemed random. Though his girl will wait for him and he will be back. Just an odd way to end it is all.

Really good final episode. Some really cool bursts of animation and great Kazuki Akane storyboarding. Story ending with a blast yet still keeping the small scale of the show. The emotional scenes actually worked wonderfully too.

Also, J vs J-copy cross-counter. Can't have a 70s anime-inspired show without an Ashita no Joe reference.

My expectation for this series was extremely below down the barrel after watching the director's previous work which I found extremely bad and this was really on a whole new level compare to his previous work.

Speaking about this show, the overall story sadly couldn't end up impressive sci-fi crime-drama at the end mainly due to lack of wow-factors and didn't took that much of risk on the last half imo which ultimately turned out to be just family drama that was let-down ultimately hard to recommend others. It really could benefit from having 2nd season with how much the world building developed.

I actually really enjoyed the first half (15 episodes) but then later 'real' filler moments kicked up and got into the way that was not okay to have! I did highly enjoyed the earlier fillers which were essential and let us knew about the world and characters but later on I feel the director tried to overdeveloped character bit much and was less crime fiction story that made the first half blast to watch (at least for me) and rather were more focused on the family/character drama which made the overall story couldn't end up not strong as I was hoping after the excellent first half. Still it was engaging with some of those quirky plot twists which made it treat to watch and the show has a lot of heart in it.
Also thankfully the main characters were really likable and enjoyed Daisuke's rule-of-cool scenarios which kind of main leads we don't really see often much and his chemistry with J was very interesting too [And english dub make it better]. Sadly few leads like Boma (who joined too late to care for me) or other side characters including the villains werent interesting and got in the way on the last couple of episodes.

Also character designs were bit hit/miss tbh but the background art was great and so does the animation. Oh and the soundtracks were freaking kickassery! OP was okay but the 2nd ED was serious lackluster that kind of decrease my enjoyment how each episodes could end.

For an older anime, I have to give this its props. I didn't expect much when I started this but got sucked in pretty quickly.

Loved Daisuke, J, Kyoko, and the crew and the town really showed their mettle in the last episode, which was epic. I kinda peeped several episodes back that Shun was all he made out to be. I wanted to see a better ending for Daisuke and Kyoko, but (sighs), that's all there was. I know its been a while, but an OVA would be nice.

Very weak plot in this show. Things happen for story conveniences, boring exposition instead of action, lazy character motivations. Main villain for instance, doesn't have a plan or even larger ideals, very bland and boring (mommy issues and resentment). The world is underdeveloped too, details are left obscure, and not in a good way, more like in a plot hole kind of way. The whole Celestials and the Cities arrangement for sure is an allegory for USA world order with Judo standing for modern day Japan with weak NDF and nationalistic and honor romanticism tendencies of the top brass. Coup de tat plot was about that. But I don't think it was cleverly constructed, it was schematical at best. On the side note, other plot elements were introduced to be forgotten later, like savage people of Siberbia or machine ban subplot. And sometimes, in individual episodes and scenes, I had a feeling writers were so detached from reality they must've experienced how the world works from fiction alone.

Everything else is kinda above average but only a bit. That includes art direction, storyboards, layouts, overall scene direction. Character designs were hit and miss, some good, some not so much. Characters themselves felt underdeveloped, like there's a missed potential, though I quite enjoyed the protagonist: he was refreshingly mature for a typical teenage anime lead. Can't say that for his mafia boss counterpart, really annoying cliche character until a sudden 180 turn near the end of the show, his arc wasn't developed well enough. Some episodes were real standouts in all aspects, but there also was a lot of very poorly conceived drivel too. Some interesting layouts and sakuga in standout episodes usually, but to be fare, standout animation sequences were sprinkled here and there throughout the whole show, even in average eps (senator-Vampire suit guy death scene for example).

Granted, it's really hard to make an original show with a creative direction decided by a committee of companies that demand a certain elements included in the show, things like teenage protagonist or an obligatory loli character or a robot design that can be easily made into a toy or a cliche otoko thing from old yakuza movies, etc. That's how it always is with original projects. And to my understanding the production studio was still in its infancy, a lot of the staff were still inexperienced and, lets face it, not the best talent around. Still glad I watched this obscure show, it had that special early 2000s spirit that is hard to describe with words.
