This is a thread specifically designed for recommending titles. If you feel a title deserves an honourable mention and that is worthy of a recommendation, then post it here. Especially if the said title is relatively unknown by the average viewer.

Anyone know of anything good that has a rating lower than 7.0 on MAL? I usually ignore these anime for the most part, but I'm sure there are a few hidden gems out there.

The best one I've found so far is Windaria. I'm fairly certain Windaria used to be rated higher than 7, but in any case, this is a classic 80s movie with Shakespearean style storytelling and unique art & sound design. Other decent ones I've discovered include Twilight Q Part 2 and Space Fantasia 2001 Nights. Twilight Q Part 2 is a short directed by Mamoru Oshii. It has a very dialogue heavy, Twilight Zone-esque story. I don't remember much from Space Fantasia, but I'm sure the hardcore sci-fi fans will be into it.

Alien Nine: This is one of those shows that doesn't really resolve anything but I found it interesting. There's a really creepy, weird vibe to it that I really liked.

Sorceror Hunters (TV & OVA): This one was a staple of 90's anime and a little surprising to see sitting under 7. Both are quite funny and goofy; I think it's problem might be that the material has been done many times since so it might seem stale now.

DNA2: The future is an overpopulated mess because of one man who has special genes that make him the "mega playboy." Karin goes back in time to stop him and whacky hijinks ensue. This one is really goofy but it has endearing characters and a fun plot; definitely not for those who don't find sex comedies funny though.

FAKE: Another one that is just in the middle of a manga series. This one is based on a BL series but that kind of content is pretty light; most of this OVA revolves around an interesting murder plot. I think the mystery is enough to recommend it to anyone interested in that, even if they aren't into yaoi stuff.

MAL seems to have a similar problem that IMDB does: the new hotness will get a flood of high scores while anything older has fewer scores to add up. So something like "No Game, No Life" soars up to almost par with Cowboy Bebop and is rated /higher/ than Nausicaa AND Ghost in the Shell: SAC.

I don't know many shows worth mentioning that are rated below 7 on this site, but you give Blue Gender a try. It's rate 7.15 and is one of the better shows with an apocalyptic setting. Black Bullet tries to copy it and fails miserably....XD

I recommend everyone watch Area 88 and Zegapain as to shows that are often overlooked and deserved to be praised.

Well now you guys are gonna make me go watch Mad Bull 34 lol, I'm expecting a "so bad it's funny" kind of show. Been a long long time since I've tried watching one of these.

Give Blue gender another try it's not just another apocalyptic story after watching the first handful of episodes; the visuals are severely outdated though. Are you watching the Sailor moon remake?

I hope you enjoy it. It's extremely over the top (as is the manga) - with the immense amount of sex, nudity and violence; it reminds me of the totally excessive action movies of the 80s. So not for everyone I guess lol

I'm going to have to disagree with you on Fake.

Few titles worth checking out:

3x3 Eyes - old school supernatural/superpower series which stars one of my fave old school seiyuu Megumi Hayashibara as Pai. The manga which the series is adapted from is even better and worth checking out.

Those Who Hunt Elves - Another old school fantasy/comedy series that's worth checking out and is funny as. I remember buying this dvd back early 2000's(can't seem to find it anymore though).

Grenadier - The very first anime I ever downloaded back in 2004 when broadband was still in its infancy here in Australia(lol) and downloading 12 episodes still took a few hours. Still have that very download(fan-subbed by LunarAnime) and even though it's a 6.9(most like due to the fan-service) on MAL it's still a gem for me

Maze: The Mega-Burst Space - Another fantasy series that's a 6.8 on MAL. I found this to be pretty good(if your into fantasy/comedy with a MC that shares similar traits to Ranma).

...and last but not least, definitely recommend Legend of the Overfiend if your into old school anime with sex, violence, gore and all the sick things anime was known for back in the early 90's(before pokemon anyways)

Fair enough. I found it far more entertaining than most "one shot" OVAs but it's probably highly dependant on how interesting you find the subject matter.
