The movie is a rather faithful adaptation, and as such, the movie will spoil major plot points of the first third of the game. The movie does handle some of the plot differently (and better IMO).

Of course, being an adaptation means that it won't cover everything, and the game undoubtedly provides the full story.

Yes. Each main series Persona game is a stand-alone title. This movie is an adaptation of Persona 3 and covers the introduction and first third or so of it.
