Another great episode. Geez, Toki sure made everyone worried. Hell, I was even worried especially when he feel into that cold lake. Still, I get where he's coming from trying to save his sister. Poor Sachi..

But yeah, I thought this episode got the emotions part right, matched with the OST perfectly. Good thing Toki survived but still, I am amazed.

Tokoyukimushi; a rare mushi that targets a specific animal and gradually takes away their warmth.

Poor Toki.. That was indeed a tragic way his little sister died..

The snow piling up at the bottom of the lake was nice.

Damn, I thought he died when the snow stopped falling..
Good to see he's still alive.

Iceman Toki rescues his friend, Tae. He remembers his little sister's death..
His senses finally come back.

I guess that was a good ending. Nice OST in the end.

So human warmth is the cure against that mushi?
Or was it any kind of heat for a period of time? I'd imagine that the mushi changes the person's perception of heat so as to avoid it and not kill the mushi.

But technically it was a good ending right? :) Toki was finally able to regain his senses back, after being frozen in time, deluding himself thinking that Saki could still be under water, alive. Despite losing a few fingers and toes, at least he is able to move on and finally live again.

I had a feeling that Tae would fall into the lake as well and Toki would have to save her. He probably realized then that saving someone who is alive and in front of him was more important than someone that, in his mind, maybe is still alive. Although Ginko was mainly an observer in this episode, I thought it was a great episode. It shows that he as a mushishi can't solve everything, it's also highly up to the individual and those around the person.

Toshiro Masuda seems to have outdone himself in the music department. Is it just me, or the music in these last three eps has been a notch above most of the tracks in the last season?

Loved this episode as much as the first two overall. But I felt more engrossed in this ep thanks to the direction, which for some weird reason reminded me of Assassination of Jesse James.

I found it uncomfortably fascinating, actually.

thats a good perspective. Moving on after a misfortune has been a recurrent theme throughout the series.

and yes, Ginko was just an observer, but his perspective was important, because we could not otherwise make sense of the stuff that happened. Plus he educated someone in the village about the Mushi's, that has to count as a contribution, no?

Was pretty cool, not sure how he breathed under water but oh well. Ginko's firm no to the guy describing them as beautiful was kind of cool as well, but Ginko sure didn't do much this episode.

Another beautiful episode :*)

Loved the scene when Toki started regaining his senses.

That was really emotional.

And it amazes me every time how Ginko acts whenever something happens.
Like how he seemed to not care at all when they told him Toki fell into the lake, but in reality he actually knows what's gonna happen or something like that. This character is really amazing ^^

Great episode, with a happy ending.
I almost thought Toki was going to die to save Tae, but it ended happily.

I really enjoyed that ending once again. When you see the change where a single piece of snow falls on Toki's face and just melts, then giving us a final look at the gorgeous scenery with music.

LOVE IT.

Oh, yes. I was just thinking about the future ones, that one was indeed happy. I'm glad it was :D

I think the first season also started with happy endings and then they were getting less frequent(I may be wrong, though), I'm wondering if that will also be the case with this one?

The moment you hear the narrator's voice, you're already under this show's spell. It was sad that Sachi died but at least Toki and Tae didn't.

Ahh I hope we get to see Tanyuu this season.

Oh haha, that's what you meant. Yeah, I think that's how the first season kind of went. To be honest, I think I remember more of the sad endings than the happy ones for some reason. I can see that happening this season too.

Glad I'm not going to be the first person to bring this up. One of my favorite parts of the whole season so far has to be the dialogue between Toki & Sachi about the snow. Maybe even my favorite.

Overall, this is easily my favorite episode of the season out of the three. Granted, I would like to know how Toki managed to breathe underwater. I'd be lying if I said that didn't bother me, I kinda wish the dedicated a few seconds to explain that but outside of that, I really loved this one. I really got immersed in this one & the latter half was absolutely magical like Mushishi tends to be. The score was absolutely phenomenal, as previously mentioned in this thread by Koreye (though I'm not sure I'd give it the nod of season one). The track that played as Toki remembered finding Sachi's dead body perfectly complimented the scene and made it hard to keep the tears bottled up inside like a man (which I succeeded in doing, by the way).

The emotion in this episode was perfect all throughout and it really knew how to hit my buttons. I had to fight the tears every since Tae found Toki at the lake & he says "I didn't die . . ."

This was - in my opinion - the best episode of the season so far. I especially loved the background art, which was stunningly beautiful (you gotta love the winter-themed Mushishi episodes). Not to mention the drama being effective as well. The second season is really shaping up, and it looks like it'll be just as good as the first one.

Hyped for the next episode.

I agree, the sad endings (as well as the bittersweet ones) were the most impactful for me personally. But that's probably because they fit the tone of the show rather well. I mean, Mushishi's tone is quite sombre, in a good way.

A very profound atmosphere as always. There's something about snow that always gets to me, especially snowy nights. They just seem to have this surreal mix of nostalgia and romanticism. But what was even more surreal was the snow falling in the lake, that was so beautiful.

Although this episode ended on a happier note, there was a feeling of melancholy that lingered through to the end. Another splendid episode that uses the mushi to explore the character's feelings. I think this entire situation reflected Toki's internal conflict and how he dealt with his sister's death. It wasn't until he was able to finally move on that he could feel warmth again.

Got a good laugh out of hearing Toki's voice though, immediately screamed Kasuga from Aku no Hana.
